I fancy the plumber. HELP!

PawPatrol24 · 19/01/2021 22:06

Recently single 26 year old Mumma here.
This particular plumber has come over twice the past 2/3 months to help with various things around my rented place.

He is is absolutely stunning. In his 30's. Three children. Not with the mother, but no idea of any girlfriend. Lovely to my very chatty, curious 3yo (obviously having seen her when fixing up the place).

I am sure there is a little chemistry but I'm not sure if I'm projecting. Something in the way he mentioned me being a full-time Mum, the smile on his face as he left and mentioning he's not with the mother.

He's said he'd keep me updated with various bits that need doing. Everyone says to see if he followed through with this but I can't eat or sleep properly. I feel like a 16 year old girl again!
I don't wanna step on no ones toes, but I also don't want to waste an opportunity.

Advice?!

Aww OP I'm sorry you didn't get a reply. I wonder if perhaps it's not his phone number and it actually belongs to a colleague. I guess it's hard to tell as no WhatsApp picture. It would explain why you didn't get a response.

I would leave it regardless. Presumably you'll see him again when he next comes over so see if he mentions it then again.

@pawpatrol24 just read this thread and love it.
It doesn't matter what the outcome is in the end, the big deal is you took a chance and that's how you find happiness, taking a punt on something.
I wish I had your guts!
Epic move, you should be feeling awesome right now.

ZenNudist · 20/01/2021 21:13

Hmmm what a shame. We women dont put ourselves out there enough so when we do we are really invested in it.

On the occasion I've taken the initiative I've done it when I was really sure, so it's a double blow when they say no !!

Don't let this put you off. He's probably got a GF.

SameToo · 20/01/2021 21:20

The no what’s app image would make me think it’s a work phone but I’d imagine it wouldn’t be a shared work phone.

Mammaaof · 20/01/2021 21:21

@SameToo he may have his setting set that if he hasn't got the OP as a contact saved then she can't see his WhatsApp photo. That's what my settings are set as

FortunesFavour · 20/01/2021 21:25

His loss, you’re awesome.

refusetobeasheep · 20/01/2021 21:32

You rolled the dice, all power to you!

AmywithanL · 20/01/2021 21:35

Sorry if this has been said, but it could be a work phone for whoever is on duty??

9925dum2007-05-23 10:27:14 · 20/01/2021 21:36

I think you are brilliant- good for you to take the initiative and heck if he doesn't reply you've dipped your toe in the water and there will be others. Bravo for female courage Smile

Oh god - she might get someone else turning up Grin
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 20/01/2021 21:42

Well done fir messaging him!

I know it's difficult with Covid, but next time I'd go fir something a bit more fun that 'want to have a tea/coffee sometime?' It doesn't exactly say 'I'm interested in you'.

You & DD both deserve some 🍭

SameToo · 20/01/2021 21:43

@Mammaaof didn’t even know that was a thing! How exciting!

Samistar · 20/01/2021 22:03

Good for you for taking a risk. I really fancied the maintenance guy at a place where I used to work so decided to call him (no texts then 😂) He had a gf, it was embarrassing but I was so proud of myself. My confidence grew in not just letting opportunities pass but also in myself and what I had to offer. Good luck to you!

LAURAMINIMAQ88 · 20/01/2021 22:54

@PawPatrol24
I think this is definitely his work phone that he only has for certain period of time and is not allowed to reply to such messages.
I dont think they even told him.
My husband used to work as a plumber and he would have a mobile phone in the office and it was basically a businesses mobile number that was available to all staff and customers.
All staff was able to use it when contacting their clients to confirm the appointment and time.
They were no allowed to use it for different purposes, even if I wantes to contact my husband on that mobile number, he wouldn't be able to reply.
This is just their policy .

Fingers crossed.
I hope he comes again to do some job and you could always mention the text .
Kisses xx

CokeAndPepsi · 20/01/2021 23:02

@Bettysnow

Have you ever text him on his mobile before? I mean regarding repairs and if you have did he reply? Im just wondering in case its a work mobile and used by different plumbers for the same company. Also are you sure you text the right number?
From several posts on this thread I am getting the impression that the past tense of the word “text” (used as a verb) is “text”. Is it not generally considered to be “texted”? Before this thread I’ve never heard anyone say “I text him last week,” it’s always been “I texted him last week”. But it is one of those words that is being used differently now than it used to be — am I missing something?

I don't know if I could mention it to him, even if I wanted to. Just because it would be really embarrassing in case it was his personal phone and he did get the message.

If he has to come then I'll just be nice, polite. Engage in conversation, take him to whichever room he needs to be, offer a drink and and then focus on some fun activity with my DD that takes 100% of my attention.

I think at the end of the day, we can't assume. There are a good handful of possibilities it could be. Either way, I'm not gonna pester. I tried, nothing happened. Can't and won't do much more :)

On whatsapp if the number belongs to a business account it would say so, A box pops up on the chat screen saying so. This maybe only for private businesses though...just a thought

PawPatrol24 · 20/01/2021 23:12

So this is what's available to see in the info on WhatsApp. Not sure this is allowed, but I have scribbled out the numbers (both the same) and renamed him to Plumber so his name isn't visible. Also, the default WhatsApp status was added 4th Jan, this year I presume, as it doesn't say otherwise.

So could very well be a company/work phone. All I know is, when he called me off the number. He was only a few minutes away. Maybe 5 in between the call and him turning up.

I fancy the plumber. HELP!

In real life even if people have work phones they have them with them. They don’t share them.
Not that I know of.
But I’m happy to be corrected

I feel in love with my carpenter the minute I clapped eyes on him. Four years on he keeps me awake every night with his snoring. Go for it life is far too bloody short xx

The past tense obviously is texted. I guess it's a [really tiny] bit of mouthful so people started dropping the -ed in speech over the last couple of decades. That's now filtering into written English, apparently.

Basically, it's slang/informal.

This is what I mean. It shows at the top of the chat screen before a conversation Smile

Mimipo · 20/01/2021 23:35

Maybe he didn’t get the message ? Like maybe it wasn’t delivered?

mnbvv · 20/01/2021 23:37

If the phone is his work one then he probably wouldn't have signed up to what's app with it. I use what's app lots and prefer than to phoning. All the work men I've had didn't have a what's app account associated with that number so I had to text. They probably think it's too informal ie having the photo etc
