Does anyone know how much a registrar doctor earns?

DP claiming poverty but has been a registrar for 10 years ish. I thought he’d be on at least over 55k but claims not. I don’t believe him and he’s wanting to put less than half into joint account.

Haven't RTFT but he's definitely taking the piss paying £200 a month all in unless he has children to pay for or some other very good reason.

Regardless of the tights and wrongs (and I do think £200 is taking the piss) I really don’t think this relationship has legs if you’re not on the same page about money.

You are an intelligent woman. Why are you allowing this to happen? I earn more than my partner but he pays his equal share. I would never allow someone to take the piss out of me. Come on, lay down the law.

While I know this isn’t the point of the thread, in all seriousness the pay isn’t that good. My £45000 is for a very senior Reg post in an acute specialty so heavy on calls and lots of nights. And that is all in. Banding and out of hours pay and everything. The lot. 44 hours a week. It is t bad but it isn’t what people think we are on....

Not more than £40,000 or thereabouts - shocks me because as a band 7 nurse I'm on nearly that myself and it goes up to £43,000 later this year! I don't quite get it!

You need more openness regarding finances for the future. Doctors don't earn as much as people think and there are a lot of outgoings to add on, I think my husbands subscriptions and insurance etc come to over £7000 a year-I try not to add it up to closely! This does vary massively based on speciality.

Regardless of income if you have a future there needs to be some transparency.

Even as he progresses starting salary and range for a Consultant is 85 - 105K .

Even if you thiygh he earner 40k. You know what the take home on that is. Surely you would still expect him to pay more than £200 towards Bill's? Even on 40k.

You said upstream you earn over £60k, now it's more than £120k...bit of a hike! Regardless...you're either a team, or you're not. Everything in and out of same account with no 'mine and yours' or, a %age split towards your outgoings based on your income.

Yes for sure he should be contributing more, but if my partner was querying my money and salary etc I'd feel a little controlled. My STBExH does this and I'm the biggest earner.

Also you should trust one another for it to be a sustainable relationship. Genuinely.

His salary may well be less than you assumed op, but it's not a half bad salary (in pure monetary terms) and you are quite right to question why on earth he is only able to contribute £200 to the household. That's taking the piss massively.

Sounds like there are bigger issues at play here.

Thanks for the replies. Seems I have got it largely wrong as I thought he’d be on minimum 60. That said I agree 200 is still too low.

No but I think he’s got used to me paying when he took a pay cut a few years back. So he has a lot of hobbies and goes away a lot with friends. I don’t mind any of that but 200 a month isn’t fair imo.

So you dont know what he earns, dont know where he spends 2k a month.

I (barely) manage a £1000 mortgage. All bills. Look after myself and my own car and every other friggin thing that comes along and I'm a 40K earner.
Admittedly, I don't get to go on luxury holidays etc....
But I get by.
He needs a reality check OP.
