Does anyone know how much a registrar doctor earns?

DP claiming poverty but has been a registrar for 10 years ish. I thought he’d be on at least over 55k but claims not. I don’t believe him and he’s wanting to put less than half into joint account.

Does he do a 48h week or 38?

Is he 10 years post Med school?

Because it goes like this
FY1
FY2
ST1
ST2.
Then you start your Reg years. And maybe people do a FY3.

So 10 years post Med school you have been a Reg for a max of 6 years.

Or if he is staff grade, 38h week with very few nights he may well be on around 40 to 45k.

As a first year Reg my pay was about 32k but I go extra for doing a lot of nights weekends and a 48h week.

NameChangeNugget · 06/02/2020 00:21

It’s not going to be anywhere what your on OP, he’s not going to be on that much, probably 45k at best however, he’s taking the piss

mm late to the party, but ill add my 2 cents worth.
Being a registrar is like doing your time, your hard labour. With the end goal of having the shiny title of Consultant.
If the title isn't enough then as many of the consultants out there you start trying to build up the private work. Your DP is obviously more about the long game so he is doing his time. His salary is correct, depending on his speciality by the time he gets to consultant he'll be on 90k-110k. He ll be on this for a few years maybe 1-2 and then if he can start private work his earnings will increase. Again his final earning will depend on his speciality and the amount he wants to work so 110k-400k who knows.

As a GP myself 3 years qualified I'm on just over 200k. It's swings and roundabouts. Gp is underestimated, i personally know a few on over 250k, but also many on far less.

Wbeezer · 16/08/2020 11:05

I dont think that contribution is fair, theres a thread on Mumsnet at the moment where someones teenager starting his first job is paying his parents that amount.

Gingernaut · 16/08/2020 11:10

Depending on specialty, between £32,000 and £49,000

Angrymum22 · 16/08/2020 11:15

College I presume that you are a private GP from the figures you give. NHS GPs earn no where near 200k.

nowaitaminute · 16/08/2020 11:19

You're on 120k so you must be smart OP...but apparently not smart enough to google a registrars salary! Hmm I can totally understand why he doesn't want to disclose the information to you! You seem very judgmental and patronising. Sad

LilyWater · 16/08/2020 11:30

Are you sure he's been a registrar for 10 years?? Normally it's about 5. Check NHS jobs website for jobs at that level in your area to see the pay scale of what he earns.

Kisskiss · 16/08/2020 11:37

Old thread .. but him paying 200 a month is crazy... when I was on 33k/year I had to cover my own rent of 600 a month.. nobody subsidised me!

Mummyme87 · 16/08/2020 11:38

I work in London and know many a registrar on less than £60k. It’s really not so simple

LilMissRe · 16/08/2020 11:44

Not meaning to hijack but I'm trying to claim child maintenance off my exh and he's only paying £200 a month even though our son lives with me 90% of the time. He's an associate dentist and I'd like to know an accurate figure to put onto the online calculator.
He keeps saying he has no money ( even though he splashed on a new bow 4x4 and buys his new wife a ton of jewellery) . I'm on less than 25k a year.
Does anyone here know?

LilMissRe · 16/08/2020 11:45
  • associate dentist at an NHS practice ( does some private work too)
  • bmw 4x4 car

Thanks!

PrayingandHoping · 16/08/2020 12:51

@LilMissRe I'd start your own thread as it may well be lost on here especially as it's such an old thread.

I'm sure people would be able to help. I would suggest google but I'm not expert

BrowncoatWaffles · 16/08/2020 14:59

@WorldyGrease

If you think the image he's sent you is something he's found online then you can do a Google search using the image to see if it appears anywhere else on the web.

Go to images.google.com in your browser (if you're on a phone request the desktop version). Tap on the small camera icon to get the option to upload an image.

If the image is something he's nabbed from elsewhere then you know he's fibbing.

That said, it looks like you've realised he probably is on less.

opinionatedfreak · 16/08/2020 15:48

What specialty? Does he do antisocial hours eg. night shifts/ weekends on call.
If so I think he is being disingenuous about his income.

www.bma.org.uk/pay-and-contracts/pay/junior-doctors-pay-scales/pay-scales-for-junior-doctors-in-england

Juniors get basic pay, then supplements based on antisocial hours and on the number of weekends they work. So unless he is doing a very 9-5 specialty eg. GUM then I think he is probably earning more.

The BMA link above has a complicated table suggesting that shows exactly how much the additional payments are for each point on the pay scale.

I'm a doctor. When I was a registrar 5 years ago I lived alone, paid all of my london rent (1680/month) and bills and still managed to save.

unicornsarereal72 · 16/08/2020 16:33

@LilMissRe just ask the CMS to work it out. They will take the details from HMRC. And work out what is due.

eeyore228 · 16/08/2020 16:35

I work for the NHS and all our payslips are online. Nothing is sent anymore not even P60s

CollegeDoctor86 · 16/08/2020 17:02

@Angrymum22

no this is NHS work. I don't know many private gps, but from my estimation of what they earn it will be between-100-200. The big money is being one of a few partners that have a group of surgeries. These GPs out earn most NHS and private consultants.
