Does anyone know how much a registrar doctor earns?

DP claiming poverty but has been a registrar for 10 years ish. I thought he’d be on at least over 55k but claims not. I don’t believe him and he’s wanting to put less than half into joint account.

I thought 7 years was the longest reg training but could be wrong. Those pay bands don't include out of hours, if he works in an area like orthopaedics or general surgery he's likely to be over that amount but if it's office hours then it's close to the banding amount.

WorldyGrease · 04/02/2020 21:40

Ok well that’s that then. I thought those were very much on the low side. I thought on qualification doctors were earning over 50k so I was completely in the wrong there.

Why do you do alot less?

MrsJakeLovell · 04/02/2020 21:41

And this is why that man on Question Time didn’t believe he was in the top 5% of earners at £80 000!

WorldyGrease · 04/02/2020 21:41

My job just seems easier I suppose. He works very hard so I neve would have believed he was on so little.

People’s ideas and perceptions of salary, worth, and lifestyle are really skewed ☹️

MrsFezziwig · 04/02/2020 21:42

Surprised that you couldn’t manage to find the information online (although I wouldn’t use the Glass Door app as a “registrar” can encompass a number of different jobs, most of them non-medical. The BMA link is the one to use).
He may possibly be telling the truth, but I think if he wants to contribute less than half then the onus is on him to prove what he earns.
And if he’s been a registrar for 10 years, he should be pretty close to getting a consultant post and a significant pay rise.

Justaboutawake · 04/02/2020 21:43

If he works oncall shifts you need to add Up to 50% on to the basic salary. This is all dependent on frequency of long days, nights, weekends etc so can be variable. Registrars that I know routinely earn £60k+ (London)

pog100 · 04/02/2020 21:43

Pay seldom bears any resemblance to the work done, especially if the work touches the world of finance, even in a peripheral way, at least in my experience. It's all a bit shit.

BabbleBee · 04/02/2020 21:43

FY1 doctors are on less than £30k, not much more than a newly qualified teacher!

nocoolnamesleft · 04/02/2020 21:44

I thought on qualification doctors were earning over 50k

About half that.

lovelyjubilly · 04/02/2020 21:45

I neve would have believed he was on so little Confused

You need to apologise then.

hopeishere · 04/02/2020 21:48

What training is he doing? What is he planning to specialise in?

YenniferOfVengeberg · 04/02/2020 21:49

Does he do on calls? If he's been reg level for so long he may be out of training but still incrementing. If he's doing on calls it'll be more than the salary quoted on the payslips

pog100 · 04/02/2020 21:49

Yes @MrsJakeLovell that made me laugh and groan in equal measures. Such an arrogant perception of the world.

polkadotpixie · 04/02/2020 21:49

Most of the Registrar jobs in our trust seem to be advertised at between £41-48K

WorldyGrease · 04/02/2020 21:51

Not sure it’s arrogant.

Christ why are people so nasty on here sometimes!

OP posts:
pog100 · 04/02/2020 21:51

So little huh.... What was I saying about arrogant perceptions.

takeyourrubbishhome · 04/02/2020 21:52

What do you do?

pog100 · 04/02/2020 21:53

Well it's certainly not empathetic to have so little clue about the earnings of people around you.

Almahart · 04/02/2020 21:55

I’ve honestly no idea what you are doing in a relationship where you don’t believe what your partner tells you about his salary. Seriously.
