Does your partner text you?

Weird one perhaps, but do you hear from your partner throughout the day if you're apart?
Me and my oh both go out to work all day everyday so don't see each other from 8-5 most days. In the early days we would text constantly through the day. Now I don't hear a peep! It's annoying because I always find time to drop him a quick message just to see how he is or tell him I'm thinking of him.
He never texts first and if I don't get in touch we just won't speak until we get home.
It's not a big deal but I do think it shows a lack of effort. Even if he's busy, it takes 10 seconds to type a text!
I've stopped getting in touch now because it annoys me that he doesn't make the effort. If I do text he will reply so it's not like he has no access to his phone.
Do other people's partners do this?

@Drogosnextwife can't stand video calls I always look ugly as sin in that reverse camera, literally 25 chins the lot... just vile. People need to learn boundaries seriously lol 😂

Yup. We communicate all day. Usually it's just utter tripe, but occasionally it's about picking up milk, or making sure one of us leaves the bins out.

We live together and work for the same department, so commute together. Plus we'd sometimes grab lunch too, depending on our workloads.

And no, I'm not needy. We just like talking shite.

Ribbonsonabox · 17/01/2019 22:22

I dont even have a mobile phone. Once in a blue moon he might send something on fb messenger like a meme or a newspaper article. He does 12 hour days.

Id find it invasive if he contacted me every day for no reason.
I guess that's why I dont have a mobile, I dont really like that much contact. Prefer face to face talking.

My DP normally rings me v early when he gets to work, texts several times during the day, rings at lunchtime, rings when he's on his way home, and then rings again later on. Yet I still manage to think this isn't enough Confused. He never says he loves me - it's normally just jokes or updates (and I respond in kind). We have been together 4 years (don't have DC together; he has older ones and I have teenagers at home), but don't live together. Now thinking that I am needy...

Not unless we have something we need to say to each other. We do text some days quite a bit if something is going on that needs talking about or organising, but most days, no. I’d be pretty annoyed honestly if he was texting me just to say hello or let me know he was thinking of me! I’m pretty sure he’d feel the same. Of course, we think of each other, but our relationship is secure enough that I don’t need to talk about it constantly (or at least we can go 8 hours without needing to do so!).

I imagine it depends what stage you’re at in your relationship though or your circumstances. I’m sure we probably did when we were young and everything was new and exciting (maybe? I really don’t remember). We also were long distance (opposite sides of the world) for 2 years and we used to message and email a lot then. But we only saw each other every 2-3 months. After 10 years though, I’m more preoccupied with what I’m going to make for dinner, even though I love him even more deeply than I did back then.

What?! How do you have time for this?

fuddle · 17/01/2019 22:39

I think sending the odd text is nice. Its just nice to have in a relationship. I'm not keen on the constant texting I'd hate that. Its little things like that that matter.

DrGradusAdParnassum · 17/01/2019 22:42

@Drogosnextwife Um... Hard to say, really. I work from home, and he has the kind of job which means he has some flexibility.

@adaline
My dp makes me coffee in the morning and before bed plus texts me Wink

MudCity · 18/01/2019 00:08

Not unless it is urgent. We have busy jobs and don’t always have time to check our phones, let alone send a text. Both of us respect that.

I’d feel quite annoyed if my DH expected me to keep an eye on my phone while Im working and I agree with a previous poster that I find it odd when colleagues continually receive and respond to text messages at work.

I’m paid to do a job, not check my personal phone.

I call him at lunch sometimes unless I have a meeting, if there's something to remind him, such as don't forget DD1 has swimming tonight then i'll text him. Sometimes he calls me for a quick chat (or instructions on what needs going in the house or where the kids need to be Grin).

If he's on nights he'll always text to say goodnight , but we very rarely have back and forth text conversations, neither of us have the time.

EKGEMS · 18/01/2019 00:23

I don't think it's over the top needy-that's projection to be fair! I always call my husband at some point as I work long 12-hour+ shifts and it's nice to hear a friendly voice! If I am too busy to talk then I text.
