Partner with views that I find disgusting

NewYearNewStart2018 · 21/01/2018 20:05

Basically I have been with my partner over a year, there are things that I am starting to think seriously about, they hold views that I deem disgusting basically.
It came to a head this weekend as we were driving past a group of women in religious headwear, and they made shooting motions through the car window, I said what the fuck are you doing? To which the reply was “well that’s what they do to us” I answered “no, those particular people have done no such thing” their answer “well people from their background do” I just can’t get over how someone can be so ignorant and judgmental. There’s been occasions where some much milder things have come up and not just relating to race. These things have crept up and weren’t apparent at the beginning of the relationship.
This is a dealbreaker isn’t it? It’s actually made me feel quite disgusted towards my partner.

@Helmetbymidnight maybe she doesn't need to defend her comment? Why should she? Spoiling for an argument are we?

Helmetbymidnight · 22/01/2018 10:21

She said there's transphobia on this thread.

I asked what she meant.

She hasn't come back.

I mistakenly thought you agreed with her.

But you've kindly made it clear you don't.

Where's the argument?

BattleCuntGalactica · 22/01/2018 10:30

Can we stop derailing things with the arguments about cis/trans please? @NewYearNewStart2018 came here for support, not a bun fight about terms for people.

Signed

Ffs Islam isn't a race! *Bangs head against wall. But yes, he seems like a real dick-why stay with him? I would also be sorely tempted to point out all the wrong things that people from his "background" have done. No religion is free of murderous nutjobs. Part and parcel,

Angelf1sh · 22/01/2018 15:37

TBH Helmet I hadn’t come back because m I have a life, but yeah I have now seen your comment and I do think people who say trans women are not women but are a subset of men are transphobic.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 22/01/2018 18:44

Sorry to wade in on the cis thing but I thought it was worth mentioning this:

I am not trans, therefore I'm cis. I'm not a person who is disabled, so I'm a person who is able-bodied. I'm not homosexual but I'm heterosexual

Quote from PP. I don’t think the homo/hetero is comparable. What is, is the disabled and able bodied. Because what you should actually use is disabled and cis able bodied - adding a totally redundant qualifier.

Anyway - OP well done, swift resolution.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 22/01/2018 18:47

@Angelf1sh so I have to accept cis because trans women want the word woman? I have to accept they have given me a name because they want mine? Is that really what you’re saying?

There’s interesting talk on Skeptics Guide to the Universe podcast about what cis/trans mean.

Zebra31 · 22/01/2018 19:09

How on earth has a thread about a racist CF partner turned into yet another trans debating thread?

Back to the Ops thread. Well done for getting rid Op.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 22/01/2018 21:27

Why is it transphobic to be scientific?

NewYearNewStart2018 · 23/01/2018 18:43

So far so good... she’s working 13 hour shifts till tomorrow though so we shall see, I have my fingers crossed though. I feel so flat, I know that’s normal though. Thanks for all your support
