Oh dear - I just posted the 1000 thread. Hope we all find this one.

Selena hugs back.
I just miss him, not particular things as such, just the essence of John.
And if I think about that I just ache for him and tears just leak from my eyes.
So, mostly, I don't think about it I just carry on.

Lazy day off here today. Done the bare minimum Blush

It's sooo cold, got the heating on but can't get warm. Going to push the vacuum cleaner round in a minute, see if that warms me up! Grin

Hope the building works are going well book. It's always a trying time.

How are you feeling today chasing?

Cake, is DS's arm ok now?

Right, I will copy Willow's example of a coffee to get warm and then do 50 star jumps or something, to carry on feeling warm!! Grin

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 04/10/2017 17:56

He is as right as rain! Slept 11 hours and in much better spirits too.

I've had a better day today. Going to read to DS soon and then go and do my other first aid session.

Willow I cannot wait to hear what happened re the school trip as they were due back really late (for me anyway)?

Horse that's the best sort of day!

Chasing enjoy the bowling. Hope you're feeling a bit better.

book hope things are more finished.

bookbook · 04/10/2017 18:34

Evening all
well, they have finished and gone , then we have a break until next weekend when they are back for two days to do a step out decking thing from the doors into the garden .( They couldn't do that bit as the wood decking we ordered for the job was held up and doesn't arrive until Monday) Very pleased with it all though - looks nice, and another thing to age proof the house . ( no patio door rails to trip over ).
Just got to put everything back now. It did give me a chance to have a good clean behind the bookcases though!
Willow - researching this stuff is mind boggling, you must be cross eyed already .Sounds like last night was a bit of a fiasco.
Horse - its been cold here too - brrr with the doors wide open.
Chasing - I used to love going bowling, great fun, so hope you have some fun too :)
Cake - good to hear DS is okay - obviously needed that sleep.Hope the training goes as well as the other day, and it finishes early for you.
I'm bushed now - allotment this morning, and faffing around workmen all day. So a bath, location and some crotchet for me tonight .

Chasingsquirrels · 04/10/2017 19:10

Glad ds is back on form cake.
Hope you've warmed up horse, housework always warms me up!
Good news on the door book, hope the house warms back up quickly. Future proofing sounds a good idea.

Finished work around 2.40pm today, popped to Aldi then home. Made some easy peasy pizza bases with ds1 - he made for him and friends and I made for ds2 and I. Then picked ds2 up from his rugby match - 2:2 draw. He wanted to make fudge so he found a recipe (condensed milk, butte and sugar) and added cocoa and salt flakes as he wanted salted chocolate fudge. Just setting but the pan scrapings were v v nice. Watching Australian Masterchef with ds2 now and ds1 waiting for his friends who are coming for 7pm (or were meant to be!).

Evening all.

The saga of last night!
Was supposed to pick ds1 up at school at 11.45. Ds2 asleep so off I went. By 12 I was getting annoyed so txt ds1 and they were few miles away and dropping kids off at the villages on the way! Cue me phoning him to ask what was going on, they were late so they had decided to drop the kids off...at midnight! Drove home like a madwoman and met him at the end of our road they had dropped him off at the top of the village! Teacher had walked the girls home in another direction and he had ran all the way down himself.

Apparently they had 3 attempts to find the right theatre!
A group of German women behind them kept kicking and shaking theior seats whenever they laughed at anything (the rest of the audience were laughing too!) Then told them to " Shut the f up"!! Teacher had reported them to staff and they said oh but they were giggling and teacher got nowhere pointing out so was she! He couldnt nap in the bus as kids behind him hitting him on head to stop him! So all in all not a pleasant first 'proper' theatre experience.

Not happy all round, I suppose I should have phoned him before I left to see where they were but thought that the roads wouldnt be busy at that time of night and they would make good time. Will know next time, although I doubt he will be in a hurry to do it again.

bookbook · 04/10/2017 22:26

hope the friends turned up in time Chasing , and the sleep over goes quietly well :)
Willow - that sounds truly hair raising - I assume a stiff email complaint .
Sleep well all

Book
still waiting for the pstoral teacher to call about changing his subject, will bring it up with her.
I wasnt the only parent rocketing away from the school Grin

Busy day at 'work' still never found those handbags!
Know more about Prussian porcelain than I ever thought I would Grin

May have a job prospect in view. Someone I know works in a cafe and they are looking for staff so will give a ring tomorrow. Same cafe I worked in as a teen all one summer (but its changed a bit since then!) Loved it but busy busy busy. I definately need the exercise Smile
Glad you are all cozy again, nothing worse than a draught going through the house. (or a howling gale)

Night night.

Hope the sleepover is going well Squirrels any fudge left? Sounds lovely.

bookbook · 05/10/2017 10:36

Morning all
lovely sunny day here, very breezy.
Off to the hairdressers shortly , washing out on the line flapping furiously. ( A bit discombobualted by the fact that I went out to put up a washing line, and the hook is missing off the wall - it is in the way of the new door opening outwards , so everything is squeezed onto one line. Hope it doesn't snap like yours Willow )
I have just spent the rest of this morning putting books back onto shelves - I do like them just so . Pictures and mirror back on the walls . Feels better that it is almost back to normal.
Willow - you may have already used this website, but it popped into my head last night Millers
Have a good day all

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 05/10/2017 12:12

Hi all

Willow that is shocking! Fingers crossed for the job prospect.

Chasing hope all went well with the bowling/sleep over (or is that today?) Happy birthday to DS.

book glad to hear it's all getting sorted. I've got a haircut booked for next week - desperately needed.

I've been busy but sat and read part of my new book and done some pilates. Now some cleaning and admin to get one with before the school run.

Willow2017 · 05/10/2017 12:42

Well the morning was wasted!
Off to 'work' once kids off to school and tidied up and found that the boss needed the office today but as she was out when I left yesterday she didnt tell me. Waste of time and petrol (costing me a small fortune in extra petrol every week too) So she has cut it down to 2 days to make sure it doesnt happen again. (Phone call would suffice!)

Not really banking on this new job, need to phone up as it could be nights and weekends only. Not much use to me! Got an email from Tescos to apologise for saying I wasnt right for their seasonal jobs as their computers had went wonky sending out rejection emails to everyone and to reapply again. Which I did and there was that familiar box telling me I wasnt qualified for any of their jobs! I could scream. maybe someone will bypass it....

Washing out fingers crossed the line holds. Will get ds1 to help put new one on later, much easier with his strength to tie it to the poles Smile

Book I am the same, like my books arranged by author, in descending size etc, get all annoyed if I cant fit all the same authors in one bit! Tried the website, thank you, apparently they have no record of the Prussian ceramics...must be too up market Smile now if it were Meissen...
I love having my hair done just never get round to it, hope its a nice relaxing experience and comes out the way you want it to.

Thank goodness kids are off for hols tomorrow and next week, less frantic mornings all round. Will try to train up ds1 to get up earlier though, just in case I somehow miraculously do get a job....

Have a nice day all.

Happy Birthday to DS Squirrels. How was sleepover?

Chasingsquirrels · 05/10/2017 16:02

Friends turned up just after I posted, hung out in ds's room, then made pizzas and then hung out some more. Came downstairs when ds2 and I went to bed and watched a film then slept in the lounge.
They made pancakes for breakfast then picked another one up and took them bowling. I just sat on one of the sofas read and left them to it.
My mum came over and spent some time with ds2 and then we've just been playing Scategories with her after we got back.
Ds1's birthday was a couple of weeks ago, we just haven't been able to fit in the bowling until now!

OP posts:
Chasingsquirrels · 05/10/2017 16:03

Annoying on turning up and not being able to do anything Willow, can you claim travel expenses?

OP posts:
Willow2017 · 05/10/2017 16:17

Squirrels nobody has mentioned that so I doubt it.

Put me in a bad mood for the rest of the day so havent done much except sort out freezer and tea and the endless dry/wet washing, tsk tsk.

Yeah kids home, holidays have started Grin Is it wine o clock yet?

YOur son and his friends sound very independant and capable, last time we had a sleepover, kids were much younger and one of the lads kept everyone up until after 1am by messing about loud enough for me to hear them, was about ready to take them home!

Chasingsquirrels · 05/10/2017 16:29

Anything nice planned for half term with them?
Ours is another 3 weeks, I've got the boys the first half of the week. Ds2 has a party invite on the Monday, not sure what we are planning the rest of the time.

OP posts:
Willow2017 · 05/10/2017 16:58

Nothing specific planned, will see what the weather brings.

bookbook · 05/10/2017 17:31

Afternoon all
Just a little sit down .
Cake - the day is always good when you can sit and read a little. Sounds like a less rushing around sort of day for you.
Willow - thats the only thing about volunteering in truth, it factors in a certain amount of available time and money IMHO - which is all well and good if you have it, not so easy or fair if you haven't.
half term isn't here until the clocks go back , which works quite well to get over that loss of an hour!
Chasing - that sounds positively civilised! I think planning anything until you see what the weather is like is playing with fire at this time of year Grin
Today has been cold - but all the clothes are dry and ironed . I went to pick some tomatoes from the greenhouse, and I think they may be almost over now - and the forecast for the next couple of nights is for the decidedly chilly Still, I got a nice big bowlful to make some more pasta sauce, so I can't really complain.

SelenaValentina · 05/10/2017 19:43

willow that's appalling both for school and job. I would be throwing in to any conversation your concerns re 'Safeguarding' issues. Usually works.

My DH used to say being a volunteer was a form of abuse (I used to do Mental Health helpline and they phoned up all the time as I'm only 5 mins from hospital by car) but at least we get travel expenses if we claim, even for the Navigatoring I do now.

Was a stunningly beautiful day today and I didn't go with group but had lovely leisurely retail therapy day. Now pouring but quite good forecast for tomorrow, just 'one or two showers'. Hmm, we'll see.

Hope everyone ok? I've got streaming cold so spending fortune on German cold remedies! Grin 🤧

bookbook · 05/10/2017 22:21

Evening all
I have just put down the crotchet and popped on to say goodnight.
Retail therapy day sounds good Selena - sorry to to hear about the cold - is just typical to get one on holiday . Are the German cold remedies alcoholic , or sensible? ( was thinking along the lines of Jagermeister or possibly Kirsch as you are in the Black Forest! Grin ) Hope tomorrow stays fine for you
Sleep well everyone
Thoughts and Prayers

Willow2017 · 05/10/2017 23:25

Sounds like a nice way to spend the day Selena. Hope the cold is better tomorrow and rain stays away. Cold here earlier pm. Had fire on.
Book I have the time unfortunately but not really the money to spend twice as much on petrol than normal to be messed around. At least now I know it's only 2 days a week.

Will ask at job Centre tomorrow about expenses but not holding my breath.

Been watching the programme on Russia again it's fascinating if a bit scary.
Have a good night all.

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 06/10/2017 06:15

Morning all

We're all a bit coldy too. Hope it doesn't spoil the holiday Selena

Willow that is ridiculous - not only the expense but the waste of your time too.

Two weeks till half term here (discounting today) - which means they go back the night of the clock change and Halloween is on a school day Hmm

Bit chilly here too. Brought the seedlings in last night. book I have some cabbage and purple sprouting broccoli and now the children have grown them from seed, I have no idea what to do with them!

Happy Friday, I've got chores, jogging and a meeting to go to.

Chasingsquirrels · 06/10/2017 08:04

Hope the cold starts shifting Selena, sounds like you are having a nice time apart from that.

That's when our half term is too cake, I must have been a week behind in my head. Hope your colds don't really develop properly.

Willow I'd have thought expenses would be a claim to the charity, not the job centre. Hope the cafe job intro is successful.

bookbook · 06/10/2017 09:02

Morning all
really cold start here .
Out with DH today, just about to jump in the shower.
DD2 coming round for tea tonight, will need to think what to make.
Cake - are they big seedlings? Brassicas are tough little things, prefer the cold to being inside. Have you a cold windowsill , or just a sheltered spot outside if they are tiny? If they have more than about 6 leaves, you can plant them outside now , they are winter veg :)
Have a nice day all

Willow2017 · 06/10/2017 12:27

Hi all.
Had a form to fill out at job Centre about volunteering. One of the questions (after you explain what you are actually doing) is "why aren't you getting paid?" Dear God!

Been in town with ds2 got coffee and new a new muffin Apple and salted caramel, sooooo nice😀
Got school trousers for ds2 and some Halloween stuff more severed arms and glow in the dark maggots 😀 supermarket stuff is pretty rubbish need to no online for some severed feet and legs😀
Washer playing up again but fingers crossed it will work now.
Lovely sunny day here. Fingers crossed out stays that way for a few days.

Horsemad · 06/10/2017 12:33

My washing machine flooded the kitchen yesterday, Willow Angry
The outlet hose is inside another pipe and it had become dislodged (God knows how, as it's at the back of the machine against the wall).
Anyway, DH sorted it, so it's fine again now and at least I know it's not a problem with the actual machine, so that's good. Just a bloomin' nuisance, mopping up water!

Willow2017 · 06/10/2017 13:05

Oh that's a pain Horse if mine floods I have to throw towels down quick as it goes under the fridge freezer and I can't move that!
