Sober

BGJ43 · 07/01/2018 20:34

The social circle can wait, you have to worry about you first....

misscookie · 07/01/2018 21:56

Welcome - you know I wasn't really prepared for how much more time I had on my hands when stopped drinking. So in hindsight I would have read more in the early days of sobriety.
I guess I'd fallen out of the habit of reading (hard to concentrate when you've had a few).
So my advice would be to stock up on reading materials from Day 1

LikeaHurricane · 08/01/2018 15:39

Hi Misscookie, I remember you!! Smile belated congratulations on your 2 year anniversary Flowers

Hello,

This week, so far, much better than last... I work shifts, and I think that has a bearing on how things are/feel - so this week it's late shift which doesn't leave much room for too much introspection, but tends to leave me exhausted by the end of the week. Next week is early shift which seems to 'put the boot in' in a different way!!

Looking forward to the shift being done - but that's every shift ;)

Onwards,

Loubilou09 · 12/01/2018 17:50

Hi all - been booted off the Babes thread so hoping I can join you all here - I have been here before.

Day 12 - finding it really difficult tonight for some reason. In the bath and hoping to ride out the really loud wine witch who is being very persistent

Growingstuff · 12/01/2018 18:10

Why did you get booted off the Babes thread?

Loubilou09 · 12/01/2018 18:15

I thought it was triggering that someone mentioned their falling off the wagon in a defensive matter and justifying it. Makes me feel like I can fall off and justify it that it's okay. I offered an opinion that I didn't think it was helpful and have basically been told that the threads not for me Grin

efc1878 · 12/01/2018 18:19

Hi Lou

Are you home? Can you just get into bed with a book? I find if the call to drink is strong getting in bed so I’m not tempted to go out for drink helps.

Think how you will feel in the morning if you drink. You don’t want to go there.

Growingstuff · 12/01/2018 18:21

I know :( I just went and looked :( . Oh well. Stay here, if we help you more/better for your circumstances.
We all have different ways of doing this hard sober stuff. Here, we try to be supportive of lapses but also ask people not to post a lot of detail about the actual drinking involved,, at the time. We welcome reflection and discussion (and laughter!) bout lapses, but prefer it to be when people are sober, the next day. If it helps, I find Babes to triggers to be on, or read, as well!

Loubilou09 · 12/01/2018 18:22

Thx efc - I have a load of AF wine and some becks blue do going to resort to those - you are right I don't want to drink today!

Growingstuff · 12/01/2018 18:26

Lou come and post in here if you need a hand hold, I'm usually around later on in the evening x

Loubilou09 · 12/01/2018 18:27

Thx Growing I am staying put! I have been put off joining in with the Babes thread in the past as I sometimes feel that the thread is actually an enabler rather than a proper AF support thread. It's certainly not what the original poster wanted - she wanted pure abstinence.

Loubilou09 · 12/01/2018 18:39

Anyone got any ideas for a good box set? Could really do with something to get my teeth into...actually might try peaky blinders again...

Growingstuff · 12/01/2018 18:42

Do you have Netflix or Amazon video?

Growingstuff · 12/01/2018 18:44

I love Lucifer (Tom Ellis from Miranda) , Jessica Jones, Luke Cage (if you are into Marvel MCU stuff) on Netflix, Outlander on Amazon, lots of films available on either at the mo? Dr Who? Breaking Bad? Black Mirror?

Loubilou09 · 12/01/2018 19:09

Hmmm Black Mirror - going to go and have a look at that!

Growingstuff · 12/01/2018 19:44

There is so much good stuff available if you have. Subscription. My go to for sleepless nights is Outlander or Lucifer. Both are great.

WhiteWinterWitch · 13/01/2018 17:41

Hi folks hope everyone is doing good. First week dry Smile so happy, although tonight (Saturday) is usually a tricky one for me, so I've preplanned and bought lime cordial and soda water lots of ice and more limes, hoping this does the trick. Am currently watching North & south on Netflix (again!!Blush) if anyone is looking for boxset ideas! so that will hopefully keep me occupied until bed time (without any appearances of the wine witchGrin)

efc1878 · 14/01/2018 16:13

Hi winterwitch hope you resisted last night. I’m going to try North & South. Working through Greys Anatomy.

Freezing cold day here- but up early for long dog walk- love quiet Sunday mornings not wasted hungover.

WhiteWinterWitch · 14/01/2018 17:37

Hi efc oh I love N&S. Mr Thornton is just 😍. Managed to keep myself occupied last night, went to the cinema with Dh to see 3 billboards(loved it!) and there was a slight craving for just sitting down with a glass of wine when we came home so had the soda water & lime and went to bed. I was so glad I did this morning, like yourself I went for a nice long walk when I got up and have spent the day being productive 😁Sunday is so much nicer with a clear head. I must have a look at Gregs Anatomy when I'm finished N&S

Loubilou09 · 14/01/2018 18:10

Hi all, another day another struggle....gah!!! I am necking Eisberg Sauvignon like nothing else here....my husband has pissed me off soooo much today. I am menopausal and my anger is off the scale somedays..I just don't know how to get it under control sometimes and all I want to do is take a long slug of something to calm myself down.

But I won't, that really won't help...I know that.
