The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Sweet, Summer Sobriety!

Hey, I'm Mouse Smile

Welcome to the Battle Bus! We're a group of travelling drinkers of varying levels, those who are teetotal, and those who have tried so many times to stop, those are 'controlled' drinkers, but we NEVER give up and keep coming back for the support we share, and trying to get some kind of control over the Wicked Wine Bitch Witch!

It's not easy, boy, it's so not easy to stop or cut down some days. There are days when even the Bravest Babes fall into the Sidecar. And do you know what? That's okay. Smile

There is NO judgey pants worn on this Bus and you don't have to be anyone other than YOU to join us Smile

So, come and grab a seat, some Opal fruits, (it'll make sense eventually!)) and meet the rest of the Babes. Remember, you're not on your own, ever with us, you'll always have a Babe you can relate to.

Here's the last thread for you to catch up on if you like Smile

And here's where the entire journey began. Smile

Anyone found a non- alcoholic wine that doesn't taste like cat pish?? I have a couple of big events to get through in the next couple of weeks and not sure the AF beer is going to cut it

dementedma · 01/09/2017 20:29

'fraid not chronicle. try a gin and tonic without the gin. we call it a N&T on the bus (nowt and tonic). would a spritzer cut it?
Can you be a designated driver and thus not drinking?

venusandmars · 01/09/2017 20:43

No, me neither, alcohol free wine is all awful. I'd rather have lime and soda (proper lime freshly squeezed).

Notthatwittyreally · 01/09/2017 21:33

Done it. In bed, sober, for the first time in weeks.

That's bad- weeks. Still, onwards and reading the Allen Carr book to spur me on.

holdthewine · 01/09/2017 21:53

Notthatwitty I have also had a successfully moderate day. I am away with DD and DGS and had 2 spritzers by the pool, one at lunchtime and one late afternoon, today and 2 glasses of wine this evening with dinner. I am also going to bed sober. I also suffer with chronic pain so we do share a lot.

Guggenheim I am an involved Grandma so I know just how you feel!

guggenheim · 02/09/2017 08:09

Morning boing!

Well done notthat you'll really good when you wake up today.

holdthe are you in holiday? It's hard to stay af or moderate then. Hope you are somewhere hot and lovely. Is it nice being an involved grandma? Always sounds quite good because you can hand the little buggers back.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I had a nice spending spree on food in m&s, can't say that I'm saving any money here but at least I didn't have to cook and don't have a hangover to contand with.

Love to all- am reading just crap at NC

MintToBee · 02/09/2017 09:39

Morning Babes,
Just jumping on quickly to catch up.

Made I'm sorry things are a bit meh for you right now. I'm keeping everything crossed for you to get into the Police.

Hello and waves to all the new people.

Work has been mental busy as the temporary summer staff have left. I've been doing ten hour shifts and am bloody knackered!

Ma I'm off to the Air Show today. You can find me hanging around the military area Wink

Lux I've splashed out on Nip + Fab stuff for my luxuary this month year. Eyewatering expensive but apparently it's going to make me look 21 again. Grin

My sunflowers are finally out but the promised sunshine has disappeared.

I'll catch up properly when I'm on the bus.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 02/09/2017 12:17

Good morning all lovely Babes,
So great to see posters old and new and I'm loving seeing some of you treating yourselves, I may have spent a £ or 2 recently on cosmetics and clothes - feels good and it's only the old wine budget so doesn't really count as spends (I feel)

It's really worth being kind to ourselves isn't it? Hard to hold a wine glass when your nails are wet with polish.
since old misery bollocks move out I have ramped it up a bit more and it feels good to put myself first for once, I highly recommend it.

Sorry guys I am still annoyingly happy and want to spread the joy like a Disney Princess

Hope everybody has a super, sober, sunny Saturday and a hangover free Sunday.

God I get on my own nerves sometimes.

Can I join in? Only drink at the weekend but the amounts are creeping up and fed up waking up hungover or still abit drunk. Feel ashamed that every week I say I won't do it yet come the Friday I'm reaching for the wine.

Work full time so only get 2 days with the kids which are wasted

LuxuryWoman2017 · 02/09/2017 12:43

Hi User just jump right in, your a Babe from your first post.
The amount do creep up don't they? Goes from sharing one bottle of wine with a friend or partner, then a bottle each, then another gets opened and before long you can find yourself sneaking an empty to the recycling trying to fool people the next bottle is the first.

What helped me was the old AA advice, change your playground, change your playmates - in the case of a mm staying in that can mean skipping the Friday night usual film if that's when you normally open the bottle - do something else instead until that link is broken.

Not drinking doesn't have to be tea, water or cola - there are some very sophisticated soft drinks around now that are very treaty. Or excellent coffee if you like it.

Self care - a big one for me (I am Luxurywoman after all!) drinking can be respite from kids and drudgery - so is a facepack, bubbly bath and a pedicure or a good new novel, or a walk in the woods - whatever.

Keep hydrated - I'll say over and over that nothing starts craving like being genuinely thirsty - a sparkling ice cold water in wine glass can hit the spot nicely.

It can be habit -habits can be broken, they really can.

I will never be tee-total, I will never drink wine again.

The support here had been life changing for me, can be for you too if you are willing to do some hard thinking and make changes.

Garnier face bombs at the business.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 02/09/2017 12:46

And it seems I can't spell today, please forgive my typos
mm is mum btw!

dementedma · 02/09/2017 14:42

mint I have the glycolic scrub which is ace and the cleanser pads. I got the Dragons blood mask but wasnt mad on it. The Garneir face bomb masks are good and lux gets comission..Grin

LuxuryWoman2017 · 02/09/2017 14:47

Gotta keep an eye on my shares Ma !

Best thing for skin though? Sorry, but quitting wine will really help - stress and sugar are the enemy of the complexion - look at me now, could pass for 25 Grin

holdthewine · 02/09/2017 15:10

Guggenheim I'm sort of on holiday. DD and her DH were invited to smart wedding abroad (4th abroad wedding this year!) her DH had no leave left to go and £ is tight but v good friend who came to hers so DD needed to go. Her friend was in same position. So they came without their DHs and I came to babysit. They've gone off now and my DGS is fast asleep on my chest.

Yes it's hard to cut back on wine on holiday but could also be a time of escalation (especially this weekend with the two young mothers I could drink the wine too fast and did the first night) I wanted to not do that.

Luckily my DH doesn't drink so I have no excuse at home, it's just slipped into something there I can't stop. I'm fine on non drinking days and have done dry January but it's become too routine every night and getting earlier and consuming too much too fast.

Feeling quite determined.. moderate or bust!

Tomorrow DD and DGS fly home and my DH joins me and then we are on a week's holiday proper! I tend not to over drink on holiday with him so a good opportunity to practice for not reaching for the wine at home.

Notthatwittyreally · 02/09/2017 21:44

Holdthe, that does sound nice :) I find I can't moderate, all or nothing for me unfortunately, and yes, it carries over to all aspects of my life. Sigh.

However, dry as a bone tonight and off to bed in ten. Feeling better already :)

Hope you guys are all having the weekend you want Smile

Ozzde · 03/09/2017 12:20

Jumping on for some support. Hello all. Have been on the dry threads before but doesn't seem to be much happening there anymore. I go through periods of sobriety, then controlled drinking before it slips up. On the whole I've managed to keep it to weekends unlike my former nearly every night drinking but once I start I really go for it. Have had a weekend of binging Friday and Saturday and feel terrible today. Trying to stave off the awful anxiety I get with a hangover. Signed up to the dry September thread for a kick start too.

Notthatwittyreally · 03/09/2017 14:23

Hi Ozzde! I think it's the time of year for the quietness :) I'll have a look for the dry September thread too and join you in there, didn't know there was one :)

LuxuryWoman2017 · 03/09/2017 15:13

Hi Ozzde welcome, sounds like you are doing well on the whole, the slip-ups happen, I think a dry month can really help reset habits so good luck!
