The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Sweet, Summer Sobriety!

Mouseface · 13/06/2017 19:20

Hey, I'm Mouse Smile

Welcome to the Battle Bus! We're a group of travelling drinkers of varying levels, those who are teetotal, and those who have tried so many times to stop, those are 'controlled' drinkers, but we NEVER give up and keep coming back for the support we share, and trying to get some kind of control over the Wicked Wine Bitch Witch!

It's not easy, boy, it's so not easy to stop or cut down some days. There are days when even the Bravest Babes fall into the Sidecar. And do you know what? That's okay. Smile

There is NO judgey pants worn on this Bus and you don't have to be anyone other than YOU to join us Smile

So, come and grab a seat, some Opal fruits, (it'll make sense eventually!)) and meet the rest of the Babes. Remember, you're not on your own, ever with us, you'll always have a Babe you can relate to.

Here's the last thread for you to catch up on if you like Smile

And here's where the entire journey began. Smile

AA is certainly right for some people allencarr have you tried to give up the wine yourself?
Only you know your reasons for drinking and how much it controls you. I managed to quit wine and probably drank more than you but I was able to really examine my reasons for both drinking and wanting to stop and that took a long time.

Batteredoldchesterfield · 04/08/2017 00:05

Hi Alancarr newbie jumping in here to give support to a fellow newbie.

Before I go on, thanks to everyone who's welcomed me! It means a lot!

So, paying it forward; I've committed to no wine in August. Not going completely AF but, as I know wine is where my witch hides, I'm freezing her out.

I have had a couple of ciders each night. Not much better on the calorie front, but unit wise my consumption has dropped dramatically! I kidded myself I was drinking one bottle a night. It could easily be two once I'd added on the odd drink after work etc. So, two cans of cider is a huge improvement on that.

I don't seem to be getting the 'lack of off switch' as I do with wine. I've got more cider in the fridge but am about to go to bed. With wine I couldn't do that.

Never been to AA so can't advise on that, but I'll keep you all posted as I have a house guest later this month who is my vino buddy.....am resolute though!

Best of luck Alancarr and to all of us! X

Morning All.

Alan, welcome, I can't help on the AA front, because I'm a coward; I tell myself I haven't been because of the 'God stuff', but honestly it's because I don't want to say where I'm going or face up to what I would be doing there. I have found this thread amazingly supportive and helpful over the three or four years I've been here. When I drink, it is easily 1-1 1/2 bottles of wine a night (for years I did that without a single day off), and whilst I haven't clocked up multiple months this year, I have had AF days off every month - which is progress.

Ma, what a bugger, can't help I'm afraid, I flew Ryan air once and swore never again, because combine RA with Bournemouth airport, and stress then rage are inevitable Grin.

Lux I fear I am doomed next week.

Battered, lowering units is good - I get the same with beer, I can moderate, esp if I go half and half with ginger beer (love good dry cider, but it doesn't like me), but I still get the other crap - poor sleep, bloating, old skin, bad breath, so I'm trying to be AF.

Right must get on with the day - day ten is a danger one for me, so I'll be back here later - SweetDog wants his walk.

Alan, there are lots of Babes it has worked for though - Marfisa who popped up a week or so ago and is now two years sober (i think) is one who comes to mind.

What is it about three weeks for you? Can you articulate it? Is it taking sobriety for granted? Just not monitoring and going with habitual reactions? Feeling good and celebrating?

I find day ten tough because (ironically), I am starting to feel much better, and the wine witch starts to whisper it would be ok to have just one. Today, I am determined to tough it out with her.

Sounds familiar!

Right now, I really want a G&T :( and the nasty voices are saying, "You're going to drink on Monday anyway, what's the point in waiting?" - I am keeping my bum firmly planted on the sofa - I daren't even go and get a soft drink, just in case!

dementedma · 04/08/2017 16:10

welcome Alan
It all sounds very familiar. The Babes will help all they can.

Morning Babes.

Inexplicitly woke with a headache, but I've got loads to do before we catch the ferry on Sunday. At least it's not a hangover.

Have an excellent Saturday Smile

dementedma · 05/08/2017 08:38

Zorra · 05/08/2017 11:10

Fairenuff · 05/08/2017 11:34

dementedma · 05/08/2017 12:09

Oooh, good shout. Didn't think of that!

MintToBee · 05/08/2017 12:25

LuxuryWoman2017

Well done Mint things seem to be looking up for you I'm so glad x

Two steps forward, five back. Sunk a bottle of Pinot last night after 24 days AF. Had some shite family news. And things at home are getting more and more rubbish. I'd better get this job!

MintToBee · 05/08/2017 12:29

Don't apologise. There isn't a soul on here who can't relate to that. ODAAT(one day at a time). The weekend is a hard place to start so give your self credit for the AF Friday. And start again. Its a long bumpy journey which is why we do it on a bus...Grin

I totally get that alan. I do that too.

I may need a stiff drink tonight as am taking teen ds shopping for school trousers and school shoes today - if I can get him out of bed first....
One of us may not make it back.

Fairenuff · 06/08/2017 11:04

My youngest is off to uni next month (if he gets the grades of course) and my dd is going to live in France for a year. Am so glad that all those years of uniforms, packed lunches and homework are behind me. It's such a joyless slog.

Mint and Alan I will join you in an AF day today. Just today. Don't worry about tomorrow, next week or next month.
