at the pearl clutchers being those making fun of OP's dh. The pearl clutchers are you overly worthy, "no-one would get away with saying that about a woman!"

I think if a man came on and said, "My 42yo wife, who is quite senior in finance, wants a tattoo done round her neck..." you can imagine the reaction would be fairly similar.

The use of the term 'pearl clutching' has just made me laugh harder, imagining my bald husband arriving home sporting a pair of pearl studs!

I think if they had them done in their youth, fair enough, but he needs to remember that ear lobes, like other body parts, sag with age (but it won't matter as his ear hair will cover them when it starts growing wild)

I personally prefer a nice pierced nipple on a man.

Well it's fairly unfashionable these days (my DS doesn't wear his any more). But, you know, each to their own. I tend not to judge by appearances.

Well, actually, advise him to go to a proper body piercer (who will pierce it with a large, very sharp surgical needle), not the gun they use at Claires etc. Make sure it is a proper body piercer, with the appropriate health certificates etc. If it is done with a body piercing ring, then he won't be able to take it out without appropriate tools (a pair of circlip pliers, if the mention of shiny bits of kit is his thing!). Although there are some piercing rings with screw-on balls rather than the standard ball-closure rings. And there are many options rather than the standard shiny silver surgical stainless steel nowadays. It doesn't have to be a stool in Claires then the naff single studs they sell in nasty cheap jewellers.........

My dh bleached his hair at 28 looked like a very blond young Matt Damon crossed with Dougry Scott & had his ear pierced as well. Looked amazing... for a while, then the roots came through, not so hot, looked more like a reverse badger, never wears the earring now ( our ds laughed at the photos)

Bless him! Defo sounds like a mid-life crisis/cry for help! Can't he buy leather trousers and/or sports car instead and get his hair highlighted?
If he does get his ears pierced at least he can let them close up when he realises he looks a tit!

An ex of mine had four ear piercings and it actually really suited him and it gave me the horn tbh Granted, though, he was about 21 years old at the time and he might not have suited it 20 years later!

DH had an ear pieced in his teens to piss his dad off. It lasted a year or so, before he let the hole close over.

'Pearl clutching' suggests disapproval/shock - Lord, that's not the reason most people wouldn't want their DH to come home with a piercing! It's because it's ludicrously naff on a middle-aged man (and I class 40+ as middle-aged).

I would be voicing a strong opinion if this was my DH, just as he'd be voicing a strong opinion if I said I wanted to go bald, or summat.
