Why is another woman's debit card in my house?

Please talk me down, I think I'm close to a panic attack.

My husband is away on business today, he will return this evening, so I can't speak to him right now.

This afternoon I have found a debit card in my house (in the living room) behind some furniture that is not mine. It's not my name or anything close to it. We don't know anybody by the name. The piece of furniture was only recently moved and there was nothing there.

So where the fuck did this come from? Please tell me there's a solution that doesn't include him shagging around. He hasn't shown any of the signs - I know them - exH cheated. I'm an absolute mess.

I am a nanny and I can honestly say that whenever we've had play dates, there is always something left behind. ( obvs not any kids... Grin) the amount of times I left my phone On top of book shelf out of reach of kiddies, or bank card (yep it's happened to me too!) wedged down the sofa (because you don't want to bring while purse just card for quick pop to shop on way home so stuff it in nappy bag or back pocket etc etc lol)

Fingers crossed its innocent, but if you know any other nannies in the area (from same social group I guess) maybe it's worth asking about a abit. Casually of course...

LaBelleOtero · 01/06/2016 19:33

Ask your Nanny to ask her friend if it's her card.

Or if you speak to your DH, ask him if he knows x, not if he knows about a debit card. If it's the worst case scenario, his reaction to you saying her name would tell you a lot.

But I'm inclined to think there will be an innocent explanation!

LuluJakey1 · 01/06/2016 19:39

Our cat would not pick a credit card up but did come home with a sausage from a plate at neighbours' BBQ.
Perhaps your nanny's friend uses a different surname to her legal one eg is separated and has gone back to her own name.

GarlicSteak · 01/06/2016 19:43

I recently found an adult sized Batman onesie in my laundry basket. Grin

Arseface · 01/06/2016 19:43

My personal acc card is in my maiden name which only work colleagues, family and very old friends know.
If you have a fb acc then definitely post that you've found the card.

KP86 · 01/06/2016 19:46

Has it expired or is it a current card?

Any chance DC found it at nursery or preschool and brought it home? They even might have been using it for imaginative play at school if it's expired.

Scarydinosaurs · 01/06/2016 19:47

It sounds odd, but explainable.

How easily would it have found itself into the position you found it? What would you have to do to drop it there? Even if it WAS an affair- why would she have her bank card out??

I think it sounds as if it will have an innocent explanation.

oabiti · 01/06/2016 19:50

Are we now bringin the nanny into question? Grin

Maybe she goes by several names, so isn't going to `fess up it's her card. Ha!

The plot thickens Smile but I think it's all entirely inmocent.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 01/06/2016 19:50

It's not unusual not to sign your card. Over a quarter of cards are unsigned.

I think calling his work anonymously is very odd. Its very paranoid behaviour when the DH hasn't done anything to cause paranoia yet.

I'd just ask him when he gets home. Start doing detective work if he lies or his answer makes you suspicious, rather than starting from the worst option.

NeverbuytheDailyMail · 01/06/2016 20:01

Hmmmm maybe your husband has a secret identity???? Grin Try not to obsess - says the women who would totally obsess!

notapizzaeater · 01/06/2016 20:06

Has your DH had the house to himself ?

I reckon it's the Nancy's friend

Asprilla11 · 01/06/2016 20:09

notapizzaeater - Bit harsh calling the DH a nancy! Wink Grin

Mycatsabastard · 01/06/2016 20:09

It's probably come in the post, delivered to the wrong address. Someone (dp or dc) has opened it without looking at the front and put it down intending to do something with it later. And it's fallen down the back.

The fact it's not signed indicates it's brand new and it's most probably a post office error.

Chatarunga · 01/06/2016 20:10

'One thing you could do, is phone your DH's workplace anonymously and ask to speak to the named person on the card.'

Genius!

WTAFF · 01/06/2016 20:12

Just wanted to check - is the card in date? Grin

notapizzaeater · 01/06/2016 20:13

Hate auto correct ! Nanny nanny nanny !!!! Grin

Asprilla11 · 01/06/2016 20:14

Believeitornot · 01/06/2016 20:14

So nanny has a friend with the same forename? Tell her to ask this friend if she has that surname.

freshprincess · 01/06/2016 20:15

Nanny having a friend round on the sly is most likely.

I'd be LinkedIn super stalking now though.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 01/06/2016 20:18

I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation. Have you had any takeaways lately that it could have reasonably accidentally ended up in the bag of (fell in on last pick up or similar?)

Equally your husband might have found it on the walk back from the station or whatever, picked it up, put it on the side with his keys and forgotten all about it, much less to mention it.

taytotayto111 · 01/06/2016 20:23

I once left a brand new knickers at a friends house after a weekend stay. It fell out of my bag. Anyway my friend found it, went mental and accused her husband of all sorts. I realised when I hot home I'd left it but just thought she'd realise it was mine and bin it so I didn't phone her. Anyway weeks later she phoned me to say she suspected her husband of cheating etc and mentioned the knickers. I was so embarrassed.
is the card in date ?

Whisky2014 · 01/06/2016 20:23

Still no answer re. Card expiry date.

Expellibramus · 01/06/2016 20:27

She said it's new.

NatashaRomanoff · 01/06/2016 20:27

Sorry I'm still at work so can't answer re expiry date, I don't remember. When I get home I'll be having words and getting to the bottom of it.
The card wasn't down the sofa, it was between a unit and the wall, so not easy to fall as the unit is too high to put anything on top of. Hard to explain without being ridiculously identifying.

Think the OP mentioned earlier on the thread that it was new card, in date and unsigned.

Where is the OP anyway?
