Time for a shiny new thread.

Old thread here

OP posts:
MatronLittle · 06/03/2016 13:14

glad you really have suffered, wish you better X

Guests are arriving. I'm mixing gin and elderflower drinks. Pouring wine and beers. I'm holding a big iced elderflower and have put extra straws and props in it as a cunning disguise.

cheesy I've already re-told the Pringles story twice. As in I spoke to my friend this morning and guess what her son said blah blah chuckle. Smile

Teapot I am thinking of you Flowers

Lucy2610 · 06/03/2016 13:18

Matron I hope you have the BIGGEST sober treat lined up for this evening? You can rock this sober warrior Grin

MatronLittle · 06/03/2016 13:23

Thanks Lucy I will keep marching on.

jojo yah! To weigh loss. I don't know if you remember but on the dry Jan thread I lost 13lbs. I've lost another 1lb this week. It's astonishing isn't it?! I'm also eating loads of chocolate.

I'm off to rearrange the plates of crisps and tell 'that' kid (always the same one at my parties) to get back out of my neighbours garden...

jojomo · 06/03/2016 13:30

Chuckle at 'that' kid...there is always one!!

You are doing brilliantly matron...am envisaging your glass with foliage and a moustache as it's disguise Grin

FuzzyWhiteLegs · 06/03/2016 13:42

👍🏻 well done Matron, you sound really positive!

Glad if you are still appreciating waking up without a hangover even tho you feel so ill, that's a really great reminder of just how bad hangovers were! Thanks and Flowers

jojomo · 06/03/2016 15:18

Oh dear, I felt a bit ambushed and miserable in the supermarket watching loads of people buying pink wine and fizz for mothers day. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want any Sad

Didn't give in though.

FuzzyWhiteLegs · 06/03/2016 15:27

Jojo did you treat yourself with something else?

jojomo · 06/03/2016 15:34

Have chocolate and ice cream in the house so yes there's food treats I suppose - couldn't think straight in tesco's with the DS's running round everywhere to think of anything else for me!

Got to cook a roast dinner now though plus all the usual Sunday stuff...ironing, get kids to do homework etc etc. Sigh. I felt so positive earlier and now I just feel deprived!! I know I'm doing the right thing for myself though and I will appreciate the good nights sleep later.

jojomo · 06/03/2016 15:50

Told DH I was feeling miserable and deprived and he said, 'Why?! Wine makes you not sleep, put on weight and makes you anxious and sad. What are you missing about that?'

I know he's right.

FuzzyWhiteLegs · 06/03/2016 15:54

Go DH!! Grin

Can you plan in a treat for later? Bath with candles and chocolate followed by a good book? Film you have been meaning to watch for ages? Something for you.

jojomo · 06/03/2016 16:04

He does tell it like it is!!

Might have a bath later actually - have some weird mud pack thing that DH came home with from his travels one day and have never tried. Could be messy!! And it's the last Call the Midwife tonight...I do love a good sob at babies being born Grin

FuzzyWhiteLegs · 06/03/2016 16:13

Great! There you go then - make sure you call it your time for you tho; no ironing while you're watching CTM!!

gladistopped · 06/03/2016 16:50

Go Matron and jojo !

Thanks for all the good wishes, it IS a horrendous bug :( But I am determined to be downstairs to watch CTM! And have a good weep :)
I have only been downstairs once so far this week...been too wobbly to walk :(

Regarding remembering the hangovers - all I can say is with this virus the way I have felt this week its like the worse hangover headache EVER plus sore throat and cough from hell plus all the aches that hangovers bring plus sleepless nights, sweats etc ...then if I had been drinking add in all that AGAIN due to also drinking ( which I would have probably still been doing, despite all the drugs :( ) and you can see why I am so glad I stopped!
Wish I felt like eating , though - eaten very little for a week and its a bit concerning the family, but I just don't fancy food atm. Drinking lots of water and herb teas though.

Day 82 :)

Lucy2610 · 06/03/2016 19:20

Well done Glad :) 82 days is fantastic Star
Enjoy! jojo

jojomo · 06/03/2016 19:40

Phew, nearly time for ice cream (with a flake no less!) and CTM and looking forward to sleeping well, no hangover and no anxiety because there was NO ALCOHOL!! Thought that deserved capitals!

Hope you have made it downstairs glad - sounds like it has been truly awful - and well done on 82 days!

Have a nice evening everyone!

gladistopped · 06/03/2016 21:19

Well CTM was a bit heart wrenching and upsetting, for a MD programme :(
Was in floods of ( not happy) tears ...

MatronLittle · 06/03/2016 22:06

It's done. People were not happy once they knew I was not drinking. At lunch I had the 6 nearest adults pressing me for a reason.

I was asked if I was ready for a drink every 20 minutes. My DM said I was miserable. My DH said its not forever.

But I enjoyed the day although I was ready for it to end at 9pm.

Umpteen · 06/03/2016 22:26

Well done, Matron. Good work.

Umpteen · 06/03/2016 22:29

How did you keep your cool? I would have snapped, I think!

jojomo · 06/03/2016 22:29

matron you rock! Well done!! What a long day and it can't have been easy. But you did it and you deserve some fabulous sober treats this week!
Star Star Star

I can sleep easy now knowing you coped so well!

MatronLittle · 06/03/2016 22:41

Thanks jojo it is true the force of all these sober posters is uplifting and has a sweeping wave effect of keeping the momentum and it was great knowing I could post my triumph here and would get a supportive reply Smile

Umpteen I didn't drink but I'm not sure I was cool about it. There were some jarring moments where my not joining in definitely put people on edge.

Big Brexit debate over lunch and my views were seen as being antagonistic because apparently I was taking the sober moral high ground. Truth is I was just more able to string a debate together sober.

MatronLittle · 06/03/2016 22:48

I do not recommend hosting drinks, attending boozy lunches or holding parties unless you have good reason!

I've got 1 business dinner next week which the anti-biotics should cover and a family dinner at mine next weekend which is with some of the same people as today. After those 2 events I'm going down the easier route of cinema, theatre, exercise, reading, galleries etc for my relaxation.

FuzzyWhiteLegs · 06/03/2016 23:24

Well done matron StarGrin

Umpteen · 07/03/2016 00:08

Hell yeah, Matron, duck out of as much boozy socialising as you can, for now.

(Funny thing happened - I went to an evening wedding reception today and I had a sober strategy in my head. All set to fight off the wine witch etc. But it was completely dry! Hundreds of people, sit-down dinner, very formal, but not a drop of alcohol! Great result for me. Tiny bit tedious for some, probably)

Lucy2610 · 07/03/2016 07:55

Bloody well done Matron Star Flowers Chocolate Grin
