He's sitting in the living room reading and talking to us. He said last night he's 'Shit scared'

Talking is the first step - it won't be an easy journey but at least he has started. My best wishes to you all.

Hi Mehitabel Thanks. He's making a determined effort to stay out of his room. However with everything he always has to be the good boy. He needs to let go of his anger and some of it may be rightly directed at me.

Just sending your ds and all your family best wishes (and hugs!). I have a son who has had two mini 'breakdowns' but then has put the mask back so no-one knows how he feels, heartbreaking for a Mum. Think things are better for him now - cross fingers. Your son has asked for help and I hope you can all work through it together. I know of so many young people feeling the same and also ocd problems.

No consolation but it is a sign of the times and what we are doing to our young people. It is what you get when a B grade is seen as a failure, as is a 2:2 degree these days. Not only that but you have to be good looking, popular , get a well paid job etc etc etc and everything is played out in public on social media. I would hate to be young! Perhaps you can get him to see that he is not alone and very few people can manage it all. Failure is a learning curve and something we all experience at times.
