Where do you meet decent men?

In pubs they all seem creeps just after one thing.
Joined tinder and nobody speaks and the ones that do are creeps.
Where are the nice guys at?

Blimey there 's a rash of men on MUMSnet all of a sudden.

Surely at a weekend you should all be doing DIY? Grin

donutstan · 08/11/2015 16:34

I met DH in a pub Grin

Neither of us are big drinkers and we rarely go to pubs any more, it was just a meeting place for a hobby we did.

Justaboy · 08/11/2015 16:36

PollyPerky Dun DIY Polly, at the moment stuck almost immovable after a climbing accident.

Perhaps i should give up the rocks at my delicate age!.

HappyHopefulStrongerAlone · 08/11/2015 16:44

(I think MN should start a dating site!)

x2boys · 08/11/2015 16:45

you can meet decent men anywhere dh was a one night stand he just never leftBlushmy sister met her dh in a night club anywhere.

PollyPerky · 08/11/2015 16:51

Get well soon Just!

CainInThePunting · 08/11/2015 16:54

I'd avoid OD and certainly hook up sites and don't hang out in pubs.
I think activities should be a good way to meet like minded people.
I remember hearing somewhere that supermarkets are where a lot of singles meet up!

My back up plan if I don't meet a decent man soon, is to start filling my house with adopted rescue cats and talking to myself in public. Grin

TiggyD · 08/11/2015 16:55

But are you a decent woman Confused?

theredlion · 08/11/2015 17:00

Agreed, get well soon just

I think we're all decent but different in relationships with different people, most of us are decent but we all have our flaws.
Some people, men and women, would like to spend every Friday and Saturday night in the pub.

Others like climbing falling off sorry just

In my opinion it's about mutual beliefs, goals, stages in life, that stuff.

That's my theory.
I like films, I go to the cinema on my own, I can't imagine I will ever meet a man there is I go every week for the rest of my life.

I know this post doesn't help OP but I stand in solidarity Grin

In pubs you'll generally find people whose lives revolve around drinking.

And also people who occasionally frequent pubs...

MadeMan · 08/11/2015 18:28

"Surely at a weekend you should all be doing DIY?"

Us men only do DIY when we see a woman nearby, but once her back is turned we put our hammers down and start busying ourselves with curtains and drapes.

FreeWorker1 · 08/11/2015 18:36

The old saying goes you can judge a man by the company he keeps.

Your friends have friends and if you like your friends you are likely to like their friends, etc.

I know someone who met DH by asking her friend if she knew any nice men who would like to spend the afternoon showing her around local tourist attractions. Odd but it worked.

TopOfTheCliff · 08/11/2015 19:07

I know lots of decent men who do sporty hobbies. Sometimes I am the only woman taking part. My DDs are the same and find they are sought after. My DS can't find a sporty enough GF.

Confused what are your hobbies?
Could you take up something energetic? Grin

CrumpetHead · 08/11/2015 19:48

Elendon ..What do you mean you're trying to get at me? With talk of affairs? DP and I were both single when we met, he used to bring his kids to the soft play centre on his days to have them. What's that got to do with your ex going on about girls at a centre? Confused

51howdidthathappen · 08/11/2015 20:11

Met mine at a rock n roll do. Went along to keep my sister company, it's not my thing.
We danced, we chatted, he came back for coffee....nearly three years in now.

ImperialBlether · 08/11/2015 20:27

Hmm, seeyounearertime, I'm not impressed with your name on a site that's mainly used by women. Disrespectful, in my opinion.

ReadFox · 08/11/2015 20:31

Ha ha Mademan. Love a man with carpenter jeans with tools hanging out of them....

ReadFox · 08/11/2015 20:40

Perky polly's post is a bit naive. Just because she married (however long ago) doesn't mean it is EASY to meet men. I just met a man, seemed lovely, seemed respectful, and then after a few dates he sprung it on me, after we'd kissed, that he'd like to meet up with me, often, sleep with me, quite soon? how about that......

em. Thanks for nothing. I said no thank you. There may be plenty of men out there but how to you meet one who wants the same thing you want? Even men who are basically decent don't have to have a relationship, ykwim.

ReadFox · 08/11/2015 20:41

I left out a bit, but he didn't want to be in a relationship

thenightsky · 08/11/2015 20:48

Car forums. Car forums that have regular RL meet ups. I'm often the only woman there.

The blokes tend to a bit geeky to be fair, but they are generally in good jobs and solvent (hence being able to afford the lovely sports cars).

I'm not in the market for looking for a relationship, but I have made a lot of very good male friends.

ReadFox · 08/11/2015 20:57

eugh, couldn't care less about ''decent job" but good company is important to me. Men who are drawn to a car forum, hmmmmm. Bet my x is on all of them.

albal14 · 08/11/2015 21:41

Another male here, is my username ok for you? Was my old mates nickname RIP.
I,m very shy and cant just go up to a woman in aldi,s! Sounds creepy but it must happen.

Meet up is very good have joined a local one. Fell for a fellow member in our cycle club, was ,nt mutual. She left.
Must be many like me who fail and we dont write about them not a good read.
Definitely join a club, group where you have a common interest.

ThisIsStillFolkGirl · 08/11/2015 21:49

If 'good job' means 'makes lots of money', then no, I'm not really interested either.

For me a 'decent man' is someone kind, thoughtful, intelligent, educated, preferably works in a career that focuses on helping others rather than making money for themselves, loyal, respectful, faithful... and one who finds me attractive.

I know lots of lovely men, but they are all married and I rarely meet single men.

It is tough.

ThisIsStillFolkGirl · 08/11/2015 21:53

I can't think of anything worse than going to a car forum meet up! Grin

Justaboy · 08/11/2015 22:10

ThisIsStillFolkGirl I have seen you post several times here. May I ask do you do anything to perhaps make that happen?, to meet single men they do exist. Course they say all the good men are married or gay, but there are some single ones out there. I suppose you've tried on-line dating but that seems to be really grim these days. But do you try any other way or have you just given up on the idea?.

Please decline to reply if that causes you upset 'tis not intended .
