Just that really i'd love to hear from anyone that has a loved one, partner, brother, father etc inside. My DB has been away for nearly 12 months now for a white collar crime. Just wondering if there are many of us out there?

hot Flowers Hope things look up for your family soon.

You don't realise how hard it is until you're in the situation. Sending my thoughts to all who are going through similar.

This is so often the way, getting in with the wrong crowd.
I personally know two families who have gone through this, in both cases hard drugs rather than alcohol, and both boys got through it. They are now perfectly decent adults.

I really do hope your family can get through this, specially your son.

I grew up visiting my DB in a very well known top security institution. It's not possible to express the impact of my brother's problems and experiences on the rest of the family. Ignorant people and their silly comments don't bother me (and believe me my parents have heard many of them). I still cry at events that took place when I was a child and teenager and I'm 45. OP you have all my sympathy.

Yes a family member is currently jailed and serving a 2 year sentence. I can't begin to tell anyone how dreadfully upsetting this has been. My relative is only five months into it the sentence and we are all finding it very hard to cope. I haven't been able to talk to anyone about this. I'm too ashamed and afraid that someone will judge me or judge my family's circumstances.

Yes my partner is doing an 8 month sentence and its so hard at times but i write 3 times a week he rings when he can and also writes back but its hard keeping everything jolly and not letting him know how i struggle sometimes

My nephew was in prison after drunkenly attacking his girlfriend. It seems, so far anyway, to have done him some good. He has ADHD and has always found life difficult, and mixing the alcohol with stopping meds put him in a bad place which led to his assaulting the poor girl. He did nothing in school but actually did some courses whilst inside and managed to get a decent level of literacy and numeracy, so are hopeful now he's out he might managed to get his life under control
