Digging in garden sounds like an excellent plan. Dealing with rowing DCS is bloody exhausting and stressful - no doubt about it. The only thing is, if you dull the pain with drink it won't help you handle the situation any better (as you well know) and will just make you feel shit tomorrow. Day 9 is brilliant - you are making fabulous progress. Can you go to bed early and watch TV on a laptop later? I find that a really good way to relax sometimes - a bit antisocial towards DH, but sometimes I just need to get away from them all!

CornChips · 29/04/2015 18:36

Oh how badly I want to go to bed early too.

Just a thought..... we have talked over the course of the DRY threads about sober resources, for those who have just joined us, some of these may be useful... we have shared so many fabulous resources in the past year or so!

livingwithoutalcohol.blogspot.co.uk/ - a very successful blog by Mrs D, with a sidebar blog roll call which detail fabulous blogs.

Our very own Lucy's blog
ahangoverfreelife.com/

The Bubble hour, an American podcast which many people on here really like
www.thebubblehour.com/

The famous, fabulous Belle. I am on her various challenges. She is a terrific, generous sober penpal.

tiredofthinkingaboutdrinking.com/

Also, I have used this self-hypnosis thing on youtube... good to fall asleep to and really has helped me with cravings.

missy one of my favourite evening drinks is Belvoir ginger cordial with dry ginger ale, a squeeze of lime and some fresh mint.

CornChips · 29/04/2015 18:38

bobbly I hope the gardening helps your stress. :)

Have a great evening everyone.....:)

Freshoutofideas83 · 29/04/2015 19:13

Brilliant corn those resources will keep me occupied, thank you!

Distraction is the key I'm finding - tonight I'm through my danger zone I think, day 4 almost down. Well done Bobbly, 9 days is awesome Smile

Lucy2610 · 29/04/2015 19:27

Evening all! Thanks corn for the blog name check Blush
Nice to see you merse and welcome fresh and Missy :)
Not in a great place today as close friend lost family member suddenly and unexpectedly yesterday - and yes alcohol was the culprit Sad Will be back when feeling less downbeat. Suffice it to say I f**king hate booze right now Angry

Missymoomoo1979 · 29/04/2015 19:37

Well I'm back from my mum's and I done it. Only had diet coke Grin

Now just getting the baby to sleep then it's bath and bed.

Thank you for your encouragement and replies x

Freshoutofideas83 · 29/04/2015 20:24

lucy thats so sad. Just another reminder of the evils of drink. Hope you are ok.

Well done missy, that's a great success - enjoy your relaxing bath.

Missymoomoo1979 · 29/04/2015 21:20

Thank you Fresh. In bed now and not a drop has passed my lips. Hate the craving feeling though Sad

CornChips · 29/04/2015 21:39

Imagine how great you will feel when you wake up tomorrow Missy. :)

Lucy I am so very sorry about your friend's family member. Thanks

Merse · 30/04/2015 00:00

Lucy - really sorry to hear that news. Bloody alcohol has a huge amount to answer for.

And well done Missy! Ignore the craving and enjoy a good night's sleep. I think the early nights in sobriety are great. Add loads of sleep to no hangover and you get a seriously perky person in the morning with decent skin/no puffy eyes etc.

And just catching up with thread now. Hope you are feeling better about the diagnosis, Corn. Can only imagine how tough that must have been and how much mental adjustment has been required. I guess good in a way to know the situation now ,though, so you can plan accordingly and make sure all needs are met. We know so much more about different types of SEN now - it is wonderful what provision there is and how children can be helped and not feel stigmatised .Anyway - just offering support and hope you feel calmer about it now you've met others in the same boat in RL and been able to discuss things.

Right - way past my bedtime…. Was out at a v. boozy dinner with old work mates. Fun, but I find it shocking now to see how much they put away. Don't feel jealous, just slightly bored once they all get pissed and start swaying/droning on.

Missymoomoo1979 · 30/04/2015 06:52

Morning everyone, baby slept terribly and I feel like I have a hangover ha ha.

Work this morning and then home to do housework this afternoon.

Then trying to ignore the craving this evening.

mollyonthemove · 30/04/2015 07:41

Morning all. So sorry Lucy - it's awful when people you care about die and it so could have been prevented Sad

loads of positivity buzzing around here today Grin Unused to get that hangover feeling but not soon goes!
must get up ! thoughts to all x

Freshoutofideas83 · 30/04/2015 09:04

Morning all - waking up fresh never gets old. Especially when there is a 6 month old to chase around all day. Hope you get to rest at some point today missy, it's horrid when they sleep badly. How old is your LO?

merse those boozy dinners are bizarre sober aren't they? I went to a few when pregnant...made a sharp exit whenever shots made an appearance!

Lucy, I'm just reading your blog, it's great - so well written and truthful.

LastGleaming · 30/04/2015 09:22

So sorry to hear about your friend's family member Lucy Flowers

Being up and down is to be expected Corn. I was a mess after getting the call from the child development clinic about ds's blood tests even though I had been told by a paed there was definitely something going on so I expected something. Ended up on antidepressants and diazepam (and turned to drinking very, very hard then). Knowledge is power but I do tend to take it all with a pinch of salt now, especially on the internet as you read about the worst. It's good to be aware of problems that may arise so you can intercept them earlier, and become the best advocate for your child with regards to school but they aren't all set in stone. My child is an individual and I'll just cross those bridges as I come to them.

Welcome to all the new people and well done merse and molly, some really great milestones there.

Have to run, loads to do today but will catch up properly later x

Missymoomoo1979 · 30/04/2015 13:14

She is nearly 10 months old and teething.

Well work is done and I popped Asda for tea bags as I'd run out . This is when I normally plonk a bottle in the trolley but I haven't today Grin

Knackered though so I doubt I'll be getting much housework done.

Lucy2610 · 30/04/2015 16:21

Fresh thank you :)
Mood lifting as time moves me on.
Keep going everyone - it's so worth it! I'm 2 weeks away from 600 days Grin

CornChips · 30/04/2015 16:28

600 days!

Gosh. :)

Missymoomoo1979 · 30/04/2015 18:28

Wow Lucy that's impressive well done Grin

Lucy2610 · 30/04/2015 18:44

Thanks ladies - got a bit to go to catch up with merse though Wink

Freshoutofideas83 · 30/04/2015 19:20

600 days! Wow!

I've had my first real cravings tonight, I knew it'd happen - Thursdays are normally my 'first night of the weekend'. It was hard but I cooked my dinner early as that nearly always stops me wanting a drink. For some reason I always like a drink on an empty stomach - quicker effect maybe?

Anyway, another day down. Keep on keeping on everyone Smile

Merse · 30/04/2015 19:48

Stick with it, Fresh. You can do it and try to just keep it in the moment. Know what you mean about drinking on an empty stomach too…. Are you noticing any changes in your skin/eyes? I found it made a huge difference as I'd been so used to being quite puffy every morning. Even my rings felt looser when I wasn't permanently dehydrated.

Go Lucy - 600 days is just fabulous. I am really impressed with you going public about it all and writing so eloquently about the booze crisis facing our country.

Lucy2610 · 30/04/2015 19:58

Thanks merse :) Just sick of it being the elephant in the room, especially when I've nursed so many and seen the devastation it brings. Not to mention my own personal experiences. This week has bought it all roaring back and just makes me even angrier and want to shout about it even louder Angry

Freshoutofideas83 · 30/04/2015 20:46

I feel much healthier, it's incredible that it's noticable after on 5 days. I've lost 2.5lbs since Sunday, proving not only was I drinking my calories but eating badly as a result as well. My wedding ring is looser and my skin is plumper if you know what I mean. Like you say merse, I'm clearly less dehydrated.

Despite all the above, I know for sure I'll still get the craving tomorrow night - it's so ridiculous how powerful it is when I can name a long list of reasons not to drink! As you have said though, it's one day at a time.

CornChips · 30/04/2015 22:00

I wish I could lose weight!!!! I went crazy on sugar and chocolate so put on a stone. Angry

When I put the links in my earlier post, I was reminded agin of the hypnosis video on youtube. I have started using that again- and it is currently having a dramatic affect on my cravings.... I listened to it yesterday and have literally had no thoughts about alcohol, except for a vague sense of bewilderment as to why I would even want a glass of wine. I still have obsessive thoughts about alcohol usually so it is quite restful. I have also ordered a cd from amazon. Maybe it will be useful to others? Hmmmm. might try self-hypnosis on the binge-eating next....
