How would you feel if your DH did this?

Last night DH and I were in the kitchen, getting ready to go up to bed.

I took a bottle of water with me, he filled a pint glass with water.

I walked out of the kitchen and as I was going down the hallway DH threw the contents of his glass at my retreating back, all over my hair, all down my back and all over the floor.

We hadn't been arguing or play fighting or anything like that beforehand, it just came out of nowhere.

He thought it was a joke and funny.

How would you feel if your DH did this to you?

I would question his sanity.

Mabelface · 18/10/2013 10:15

Incandescent with rage, and he would be told just how knobbish that behaviour is. Does he do other stuff to put you down?

emsyj · 18/10/2013 10:15

As above ^ I would think he had lost the plot. And I would make sure he cleaned it up before he went to bed. How bizarre.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 18/10/2013 10:16

Wet? Hmm I'd think he'd lost his marbles.

Longdistance · 18/10/2013 10:16

I think I would have punched my dh in the chops.

Dickhead!

TheFabulousIdiot · 18/10/2013 10:17

it would depend, I would be pissed off but if he was laughing and it wasn't done with malice I would probably go with the whole 'it's a joke' thing and would have dumped my bottle of water on his head in revenge.

BrianWont · 18/10/2013 10:17

Wow. I'd go fucking apeshit. Does he betray his utter contempt for you in other ways?

bundaberg · 18/10/2013 10:21

well, having been very tempted to do such childish and impulsive things myself, i would accept that it was a joke (albeit not a very funny one!)

unless there is more history to this?

and yes, i would totally have squirted him back with my water bottle

KillerKoalaFaceFromSpace · 18/10/2013 10:21

Shock Honestly? I'd probably cry and be totally shocked!

After calming down I'd tell him if he ever did anything like that again I'd go ballistic.

I'd probably also want to know if he is angry at me for any reason or under stress as it would be out of the fucking blue for him to do something so bizarre.

NotYoMomma · 18/10/2013 10:22

if it was a one off totally out of character I would ve more wtf?!?! and but biscuit crumbs on his side of the bed the next night

if it was stuff like that often I wouldn't be with him

howwouldyoufeelaboutthis · 18/10/2013 10:23

We had a conversation a few days ago about how I don't feel he respects me. This didn't reassure me.

absentmindeddooooodles · 18/10/2013 10:23

I would have told him he was a total knob and he wpuld be sleeping on the sofa then id wait till he was asleep and do the same to him

If we had been playfighting then a different story. It would mean war Grin

Mabelface · 18/10/2013 10:24

Then he obviously doesn't respect you.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 18/10/2013 10:24

BTW.. .always get a bad feeling about couples that claim to 'play fight'. Is this a tip of the ice-berg thing OP?

CogitoErgoSometimes · 18/10/2013 10:25

What does he say/do (other than soaking you with water) that makes you think he doesn't respect you?

Mojavewonderer · 18/10/2013 10:28

I would have squirted my hubby back with my water and a water fight would have ensued. We once ended up having a beer fight in the garden after he tipped beer down my cleavage at a BBQ so I tipped a pint on his head. We are very childish though and love messing around like this.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 18/10/2013 10:30

I'm guessing the BBQ wasn't in mid October though Mojavewonderer? Warm evenings and a few beers very different atmosphere...

Bumpsadaisie · 18/10/2013 10:32

I don't think my DH would do this, but it would depend on the context.

If were getting on well and it was clearly a laugh/high spirits then I would have entered into the game.

clearly though if its him being aggressive/insulting it would be different.

bluebirdwsm · 18/10/2013 10:36

I would think he was becoming unhinged, it is not rational behaviour nor remotely funny. Rather a lack of respect.

PublicEnemyNumeroUno · 18/10/2013 10:36

Id pour my water over him. But me and my DP are like that, we would also turn it into a water fight.

JoinYourPlayfellows · 18/10/2013 10:38

Throwing cold water over somebody's back is a really horrible thing to do.

It's not funny, they'll just be really shocked.

It's a particularly nasty thing to do to someone on their way to bed. Presumably being soaking wet wasn't really on your to do list.

NotQuiteCockney · 18/10/2013 10:38

It would depend on context. If I had, earlier in the day, done something similar to him, then that would be different.

That being said, I wouldn't ever do anything like that to MrNQC, and he would never do anything like that to me. I don't really like this sort of 'fun', as it just seems mean.

Abbykins1 · 18/10/2013 10:44

I would wait until he went to sleep, then pour a glass of water over his head.If he goes to work in car I would make sure his seat was soaking wet before he got in to it,before that I would have soaked all his available underpants and socks and then casually ask him if he enjoyed the joke.

pictish · 18/10/2013 10:48

What abby said there....

I very much dount he'd have seen it as a jolly laugh if the tables were turned.

You are his wife, not his younger sibling, or his mate....not that it would be excusable to do that to those people either of course.

Fwiw - I would have been very upset if my husband had done this to me. A real case of putting you in your place eh? All dressed up as a joke you're supposed to accept.

What a prick.

OhBabyLilyMunster · 18/10/2013 10:55

This sounds weird.
