The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Driving Through The Autumn Scenes, Searching For Our Sober Dreams.

1000 replies

Mouseface · 27/09/2013 12:49

Hello, I'm Mouse :) Welcome to the Bus, (aka Gerald Grin ).

I'm one of the Brave Babes on board this fabulous Bus of travellers, all in search of their sobriety in one form or another.

We have those who drink in moderation, those who have a set pattern of days on and off the booze, and we have posters who have been sober for minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years.

There are two lines that the Bus has painted down the side, one on each -

The Vulnerable Need Our Support, Not Our Judgement and Alcohol Fosters Inertia

So, if you think you're drinking too much or you're worried about another person, then come find a seat.

We get through our days chatting about all sorts of things, life is, after all, full of plenty of things to fuel our desire to drink, and we're all very different people Grin

However, our common goal is sobriety. :)

Annie there may be other factors (eg. coffee) but alcohol :

Is acidic
May worsen acid reflux
May trigger bulimia
means I don't bother to brush my teeth

Sad

The anaesthesia has worn off now, and I can feel a horrible gap. And for some reason it was hard to get out - there was a lot of tugging - I was reminded of the scene in Les Miserables where they pull out Fantine's teeth.

And it effing hurts

Scarynuff · 14/10/2013 16:28

They're back Halloween Smile

I have namechanged, can you guess who I am? Halloween Grin

Just read back from this morning and realised I forget to say this message was meant for why, not soc who must be wondering what the hell I'm going on about Halloween Blush Halloween Grin

What an inspiration you are! Your inner fighter? You mean there's more of this fighting spirit in you? Atta girl!

joey I didn't know that coffee damages teeth. I know it can discolour them but didn't realise it could actually wear away the enamel Halloween Shock

Have you got strong enough pain killers? Don't suffer needlessly, get your gp to prescribe something for the next couple of days. It's miserable being in pain.

Annie two days is better than none. If you don't want to drink today, my lovely, don't do it. Tip the wine away. If you were going to drink it anyway, it won't matter if it goes down the sink will it. Those habits won't change themselves, you have to work quite hard at it to start but it does get easier.

Mouseface · 14/10/2013 16:37

Scary you have made me ROFL!!! Thank you. Just for being you, thank you xxx Halloween Smile xxx

Annie - why do you think it will be day one again tomorrow too? Do you feel the need to because it's there, in easy reach and comforting? I feel at a loss as to how to get out of this habit...

That's just it, it's a habit. One you/we/us all need to break xxx

Joey - Sad about your tooth and pain, it's the worst, EVER! I had my wisdom tooth out last year under GA and my mouth bled out for hours after so they had to go stitch me back up again....... not nice at all. xxx

Is that you faire ?!

Did you guys see the dental advice about not drinking alcohol for 24 hours? Yes I WAS planning on having a drink til I read that... I'm such an idiot (and feeling very sorry for myself!)

Anneisnotmyname · 14/10/2013 17:43

Joey I drink loads of coffee too and probably rarely brush my teeth after drinking. I was told no alcohol for a week after an extraction - was sat there thinking I deserve a drink whilst my tooth was being pulled - then my mother said that was nonsense so no prizes for guessing which advice I took...

Hope your feeling better mouse. I totally think I will drink because the wine is there. I didn't buy any when I went shopping, I wouldn't go out now to get some, but I know I will have a glass (will make sure h has most of it). I think I found it easier to have af days during the summer as h doesn't like white wine and it wasn't the weather for red. So I just had to not buy any. Now I think I will have to come up with an alternative to red wine forhim.

I feel annoyed with myself as intellectually I know alcohol is a poison and an addictive one so I shouldn't be reluctant to just stop drinking. I delude myself that it some how improves the evening, makes it less boring when really it is boring. I totally get why's post about about drinking and being boring, and venus's about realising some boring none drinkers were just boring people!

whydidthishappen · 14/10/2013 17:46

While this may mean nothing to those back home, my New England Patriots came from behind in the dying seconds of the 4th to beat the undefeated Saints. Not to be outdone, my Red Sox with only a 3% chance of winning hit a grand slam in the 8th inning with 2 outs and drove in the winning run just 2 batters later.

This may be jibberish to you Babes, but here is my point: never give up on the task at hand, its not over till its over, the odds are beatable and sometimes with enough support, mid October can lead to miracles (big or small) that will delight and amaze people who see them.
Lets have a good week.

dementedma · 14/10/2013 18:51

Wine witch is here and only because I am too exhausted to go out to the shop is stopping me hitting a bottle.had one of dhs beers. He is asleep at the kitchen table snoring so loudly I can hear him through two closed doors!

whydidthishappen · 14/10/2013 20:06

If you are exhausted ma why not just leave it at the one beer, have. a bath and hit the hay early? Fall weather always helps me sleep, window open, extra blanket.

Makes me miss having DH to snuggle up with.

aliasjoey · 14/10/2013 20:19

scaryfairy ok I just looked it up, and apparently coffee is not so bad after all. The top causes are:

Wine
Acid reflux
Bulimia
Fruit juice
Fizzy drinks

I don't have juice or fizzy drinks - guess what that leaves?!

dementedma · 14/10/2013 20:54

Is exhaustion a perimenopause thing? Had a bath to warm up as house is Baltic, then fell asleep in a heap on the bed at 5.30.....what is wrong with me? I feel so shit.
Have missed a period but feel like I have permanent pmt - tired and tearful.
indie how are you dearest?

Scarynuff · 14/10/2013 20:58

Is that you faire?

Yep, it's me joey, well done, you win an opal fruit.

Oh, but you probably don't want it right now. Stick it in your pocket for later.

I know you feel very sad about losing your tooth but you have come a long way and you are making those change that are healthier for you. Have you managed to avoid vomiting, or is that still something that you need to deal with? Ignore me if I'm being too nosey, just don't want you to be triggered by this x

Scarynuff · 14/10/2013 20:59

Ma there are so many symptoms, I guess it could be. Or you could be coming down with something.

Isinde are you ok?

Purple haven't heard from you in ages, everything ok with you?

dementedma · 14/10/2013 21:01

I've just come off Citalopram...maybe that's it. Fed up feeling so down and miserable but don't want to go back on to a.ds

Scarynuff · 14/10/2013 21:01

Hi mouse any let up in the sickness/pain for you?

Halloween Envy < vom face

Scarynuff · 14/10/2013 21:02

Ma is there a particular reason for not wanting to go back on them?

Mouseface · 14/10/2013 21:16

I've had acupuncture today and I am suffering big time Scary Sad

I'm getting mini electric shocks in my buttox and down my legs, OUCH!

Just off to bed to try and sort it out, love to you all xxx

OP posts:
dementedma · 14/10/2013 21:23

Yeah scary. I just think I will be on them forever if I don't make the break. I need to stand on my own feet without meds and booze and the meds are easier than the booze.

aliasjoey · 14/10/2013 21:37

mouse was the acupuncture any better today?

scary I don't think I've thrown up since last year when I got on the Bus! I only did it if I'd had a LOT to drink. And although I'm still drinking too often I have managed to limit the amount. Smile

Actually I saw 'my' brand of wine on special offer, and briefly considered buying 2 bottles to "stock up" - for about ten seconds!! Honestly, it wasn't even a difficult decision - I just knew it wouldn't happen. I guess that's one positive thing that happened today Grin (gap-toothed smile)

Scarynuff · 14/10/2013 21:40

Mouse ouchie. Hope you don't sieze up too much in the night!

Ma I guess. I just wonder if not taking them will make you more like to drink? It's the chicken and egg isn't it. You could probably really do with a holiday right now. How's that lovely young lad of yours. Whenever you post about him I can hear the calmness and happiness in you. He's probably the best tonic. Boys are ace aren't they Halloween Smile x

Scarynuff · 14/10/2013 21:42

Yay joey Halloween Smile

Anyway, another day. Today I won't be drinking. xx

Hello to all. I rode on the bus for a while but then got off....is it ok if I hop back on? Alcohol ruling my life at the moment and I'm getting lots of physical and mental ailments/symptoms that I am quite sure (if I'm honest) are as a result of loads of alcohol.
This is day 2 for me and I'm feeling rubbish but hoping I will start to feel better soon. X
