The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Driving Through The Autumn Scenes, Searching For Our Sober Dreams.

1000 replies

Mouseface · 27/09/2013 12:49

Hello, I'm Mouse :) Welcome to the Bus, (aka Gerald Grin ).

I'm one of the Brave Babes on board this fabulous Bus of travellers, all in search of their sobriety in one form or another.

We have those who drink in moderation, those who have a set pattern of days on and off the booze, and we have posters who have been sober for minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years.

There are two lines that the Bus has painted down the side, one on each -

The Vulnerable Need Our Support, Not Our Judgement and Alcohol Fosters Inertia

So, if you think you're drinking too much or you're worried about another person, then come find a seat.

We get through our days chatting about all sorts of things, life is, after all, full of plenty of things to fuel our desire to drink, and we're all very different people Grin

However, our common goal is sobriety. :)

Hi Ruby, long time lurker and sometimes poster on here (old name was Obrigada), welcome back:)

aliasjoey · 15/10/2013 09:35

Welcome ruby

isinde well done, hope you have a lovely hangover-free day!

I've just double checked about acid erosion after scaryfairys comment, and discovered that coffee (unsweetened) does NOT contribute significantly to dental decay Grin so on the positive side, I can continue with my lovely mochas - on the negative side, it means my teeth problems are mostly down to alcohol: wine (acidic) reflux (acidic) and bulimia (highly acidic)

But the dentist seemed to think the rest of my teeth are in fairly good condition; so I'm going to stay on the Bus, and keep working on that drinking problem.

If everyone who had the guts to look at my lovely graphic photos has now done so, I will take them down as there is a unique and identifiable tattoo on my finger...

Mouseface · 15/10/2013 09:42

Morning, tis me, Mouse*

RUBY!!! - welcome back lovely! Nice to see you here, no matter what the reason, you came back xxx Well done on day 2. You are doing great just buy coming to find your seat, it's here, next to the window, we're going through a National Park today, the heather is out on the moors and the trees have turned a wonderful coppery brown.

There are waterfalls cascading down the hillsides and sheep are nibbling at the brush. So, keep that image in your mind, relax, stay calm and get through today with our help. There's lots of lovely warm drinks, soups and crusty no carb breads on board the Bus so we've got the lot covered. xxx

IsinDe - WELL DONE my friend on not having the entire bottle! You little start you! :) Brilliant. Don't tell anyone but I think you might be a little bit fantastic Wink xxx

Joey - not great, I had a rough night in lots of pain. Sad How is your mouth? The bleeding has stopped hasn't it? Big squidges to you lovely xxx

Just off to try and save our village pub from being torn down.... they've blocked it off so there was nowhere for parents to park this morning or yesterday afternoon, so dangerous, trucks, huge trucks going onto pavements to get past, where tiny children are walking home and to school. I'm hoping to get the parents and school involved so that we can have a louder voice.

Grin

Back in a bit, hugs to those who need them xxx

mouse did the acupuncture seem to help at all? If there is no improvement after 2 or 3 goes, maybe it's not the right thing for you...

Yes my mouth is a lot better today! Gosh I felt so sorry for myself yesterday - huge self-pitying wallow... Grin I've just read annies post properly about not drinking for 7 days after tooth extraction - bit of a shock, but it makes sense: don't want to risk being dopey/falling/biting or further injury In That Area.

So I'm off the booze, til... well Thursday anyway, then see how we go.

Oi! mouse careful where you're shaking those pom-poms!

Mouseface · 15/10/2013 13:37

Joey - if they gave you ABs for infection or rather the prevention of, and you drink on them, you WILL feel like Deep Fried Dog Vom I promise you Grin It's horrid.

I'm glad you feel better today. Re the acupuncture, it was my second session, I have another tomorrow but feck on a Friday I was soooooooooooooooooooooooooo soer last night! Everything really hurt, I mean hurt. My muscles ached and my buttox.... I think I'll tell her how I felt and then I'll see what she says.

If tomorrow's session doesn't help then I'm going to knock it on the head, I will try anything to get pain relief, and reduce my meds but not at the cost of an increase in pain.

Right, back to my paperwork sorting, I will have a dining room! I will.

Grin

mouse sorry to hear you're in so much pain - yes, do tell her, she may try something different. {hugs}

No, I don't have any antibiotics, but thinking about it drinking would be a bad idea: I could fall over, knock into something (am clumsy anyway) or knock against the teeth/gums. Everything is too tender right now to risk a bash/bruise/blood...

Mouseface · 15/10/2013 17:16

Joey - agreed! Landing on a sore mouth/face would really hurt like hell given all the tiny nerves you have there. Good idea to have a few days off the vino collapso xxx

We've just been to get Nemo's new school shoes, (they're made for him in Portugal so take ages to come through) and they're HUGE! The woman measured his feet and it all seemed fine, but the chap at the hospital just said he'd be happier in a small size, so we get two pairs for one :)

We can just pick the smaller size ones up :) He said he can wear any supportive boots, as long as they have his insoles in as they are the thing that help to correct him to talk without stomping as much.

I'm knackered. Really knackered! Zzzzzzzz xxx

mouse help Nemo to talk without stomping? Grin

Indie I love the poem. It made me laugh. Oh God, the boss and the Norks...don't remind me. The boss made me blush today - do men never grow out of schoolboy smut?
Had a meeting g with him and our web designer and I was trying to get web guy to scroll down to the exact bit of text which needed alts and I was frustrated as he kept scrolling past it so I was saying " no, not there. Go down a bit, down a bit, down a bit more...YES! Just there. That's it!" At which point boss asked mildly if I gave those instructions to all the guys!Blush.
Cue two corpsed idiots and one catsbum mouth from me while trying not to laugh.

dementedma · 15/10/2013 21:25

scary thanks for your lovely comments on Ds. He is what we would call in Scotland, a sweetie wife!
Came home from work the other day in a foul mood - again. Banging stuff around, slamming a pizza in the oven etc ( generally being horrible) and his small voice said, " so. How was work?" I muttered "fine"and heard him rummaging in the fridge behind me. Turned round and he had poured me a glass of wine Blush which he carefully placed on the counter then held both arms open wide and said "hug?"
Is it wrong to fall into the arms of an 11 year old? Bless him.

aliasjoey · 15/10/2013 21:43

ma what a sweetheart he is! Wish I could say the same about my 11-year-old...

Ma aw, he is so sweet. I managed to sneak a snuggle in bed with my lanky 14 year old ds earlier. He tried to push me away, but he didn't try that hard.

Yes Joey boys are much easier than girls at this age. Girls are often no trouble at all when they're little but they can be a nightmare when those hormones hit, as you've seen. Ah well, it all evens out in the end Grin

Isinde hope you're snoring away by now Smile

Hi Ruby, sorry I missed you earlier. Did you manage an af day today?

dementedma · 15/10/2013 22:26

Night night indie.sleep well.

whydidthishappen · 16/10/2013 02:32

Good call on the early night and morning prep call isinde Guarantee you wont regret it.

Day 35 sober and all seems fine.

I see my boy for the first time in a week tomorrow. If they cancel again my lawyer is all over it. I'm heading to bed after a nice hot bath.

Mouse and Joey I hope you both find the pain relief you need and get a good nights zzzzz

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 16/10/2013 02:49

35 days is amazing, whydid! I'm excited for you for tomorrow, and glad that your lawyer is there for you. A week is a very long time sometimes.

I can't remember, what is the timeframe before you can be considered for custody again?

I'm doing fine, thank you isinde! I did "award" myself some wine last night despite Tuesdays usually* being AFDs; after a day involving one child's visit to A&E for stitches, the other one puking everywhere, TOTM arriving and a friend in crisis arriving at my door for a debrief and a glass of vino herself I felt it deserved. It never is deserved, of course, but I just had two glasses then switched to chocolate and went to bed in a respectable state. So I feel fine about that. You sound like you're doing great, although it always feels so unfair when it's accompanied by insomnia of course.

Today is AF.

whydidthishappen · 16/10/2013 09:10

It's 4am on the East Coast and I am up trying to hunt down a mosquito who has bitten me. I have a sever allergy to them and carry an epipen for emergencies. I am swollen badly on my right arm and forehead. Feel woosy and sore, but if I use the epipen it means I have to go to hospital, and antihistamines show up in urine samples as a sleep aid. Nice try universe, but I'm seeing my boy later today no matter what!

whydidthishappen · 16/10/2013 09:31

No real need for photos as my forehead is so swollen I look. like a Klingon and will for about 48 hours. I'm worried if I do take an antihitamime now, I'd over sleep. I'll just go in early and ask to see their doctor ad he can take my random urine sample before he supervises me take the damn antihistamine. They like it done by the book, and I can't be more accommodating than that.

typhoontanya · 16/10/2013 09:37

Timing definitely off Why but sounds like you have it under control:)

typhoontanya · 16/10/2013 12:11

Hey Babes; Wednesday evening is normally the evening when I would visit my friend and we would share a bottle of wine, but this evening I am breaking the "tradition" and am going to get my nails done. I really don't want to drink and if I drink wine this evening it will whet my appetite for the weekend, if that makes sense?
