The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Posters, Lurkers, Old Or New, Come Take A Seat, This Bus Is For YOU!

Hello, I'm Mouse Smile

A huge big welcome to the Brave Babes threads.

We're a varied group of posters, on this wonderfully supportive, non judgemental, gigantic Bus, and we are all heading in the same direction - towards Sobriety.

Some of us don't touch a drop of alcohol, some of us do. Some of us drink too much, openly admit it and are desperate to stop and some of us are trying to manage controlled drinking.

No matter what we're doing, we're just trying to do it One Day At A Time.

What ever you need, what ever your habit, chances are that there'll be another poster who is just like you or has been where you are now, already here, waiting to talk or just listen :)

Yes, some of us have been here for a longer time than others, some of us for just a few days but that's what makes this Bus so great imo, the variety of knowledge and understanding :)

This Bus has been whizzing along various roads now for almost four years thanks to the very desperate cry for help from THIS THREAD BY JWN

And if you'd like to read some of the other threads, maybe how we got to where we are today, then you can follow them back using the links RIGHT HERE

Hope to see you soon :)

Ooh if we are breaking out the giant stiletto it must be time to dust off the dressing up box too.
winds feather boa around Barry

Ds was made to run a lap on his own "while everyone laughed at me". I suspect the last bit has been made up for dramatic effect but safe to say he is not enthused about the two full induction days this week.
£45 for a school blazer and the list of stuff for PE which he is going to hate, is enormous. Does he really need an mouth guard?

Tatty I agree with Isinde. Everyone will be different. Some have gone a really long time without a drink, months, even years and yet just one 'blow out' puts them back at square one, finding it really hard to stop again.

I am managing controlled drinking by being much more mindful of how and why I drink. I make very deliberate decisions and am careful to use strategies to predict and avoid triggers, plan my not drinking and actively change activities to put a stop to drinking. It took a lot of practice and quite a few false starts but now my habits are starting to change and it's so much easier. I can never go back to drinking how I used to because I am just too aware. I can't unlearn what I know. So, for me, controlled drinking is possible.

The only thing you can be sure of is that if you keep doing the same thing and keep getting the same results, you need to change what you're doing, if that make sense.

I just got so sick of regretting my drinking. I changed that.

Awks welcome to the bus. So sorry that you lost your lovely dog.

Joey has it really been 14 months? Shock Wow, that time has flown by.

Guggs fantastic. You are doing so well, I bet you feel great. Any swishing? Grin

greeney you know where we are if you want to talk x

Ma yes! Get the mouth guard, most important if he values his teeth. Sorry to hear the induction's not his thing but sure he will love it when he settles in and find more like-minded friends.

Isinde Grin Grin Grin - that is exactly what I sound like singing in the shower. Uncanny.

dementedma · 11/06/2013 22:09

Guess he'll just have to get on with it. Dd1 hated sports too and we always said that you can't just pick and choose the bits you like in life. Ds loves maths but I told him other kids dread maths the way he dreads PE but they still have to do it. Somehow being crap at PE is seen as a worse crime, and there seems to be more scope for teasing and bullying

Hello gorgeous ladies,

Wish I could say that I was slim, swishy and gorgeous but am in fact, still
short and squishy. Smile But I'm sane and calm and I feel much clearer about everything. I'm happier.

Yup, after a long day at the chalk face I could murder a glass (or eight) of red but I shovel chocolate in a forget about it. I'm not very wise, the
other aa laydees seem very profound whereas I'm still at the stage of rowing with the MIL and refusing to apologise Grin

Likewise I don't really have anything wise to say on the bus just sending lots of love and best wishes always.I clicked on isinde's link for faire and then found a youtube clip of Muriel's wedding Smile Smile and that has made me very happy indeed.

I'm going to come back and post loads when I get the chance.
ma hope that your Db is doing well.
love guggs x

Fairenuff · 11/06/2013 22:27

I have to say, the view is lovely from here but it's getting a bit crowded on the roof, what with the giant stilletto. Oh yeah and those extra babes Grin

What does it look like in the sidecar?

Edinbugger · 11/06/2013 22:34

Oh arse. Fucked up.

Had family for an early dinner and have drunk heaps. The ginger ale and appletise I bought for myself are unopened. I just couldn't get through the cleaning, the cooking, the setting the table, the being the hostess with the most-ess without a glass in my hand. I've had white wine, then red wine, then noticed there was still some white in the fridge so am now piling into that.

WHY???? After 11 AF free days I was feeling brilliant - now i"m back at the start. Worst bit is I'm LOVING IT. Even though I know it will make me feel like crap in the morning, and make me fat and will probably give me breast cancer and will def give me liver disease. WTF is my problem?

Like I don't know.

Anyway - missives from the sidecar....

baby I hope the clinic went well today. What was it like? Sorry if I've missed an update in my drunken state.

Demented - feeling your Ds's PE related pain. I was at DD's sports day today and had a flash of memory in which I recalled how much I LOATHED any kind of sports at school. On sports day every single race was a humiliation. 35-40 years on I enjoy a waddle (and I mean WADDLE) on the c25k but I've never yet gone for a job where they ask me to do press ups or a short sprint so all is cool. Is your DS going to a super-sporty school? (my PFB is also moving to secondary in Edinburgh this year but not to a private school so hopefully not so much sporting pressure as he's as crap as I am on the field...).

Off to get another glass and bang my head off the wall for being so weak willed.

Edinbugger · 11/06/2013 22:37

faire - it's bloody scary in the side-car and that's a fact! Hanging off that cliff edge isn't funny!

I watched the Pricilla clip too - I haven't seen that movie in aggggges. I have a really short concentration span so had to watch the Muriel clip too-love that film.

Side car - I kind of miss it. isinde you oughter make ma tidy up!

Edin 11 days is a fine achievement. there is NO WAY that I could make it through and evening of housework and cooking and family without a drink or two. Start again tomorrow, lovely. x

Fairenuff · 11/06/2013 22:57

I think I've found a mascot for our bus. Spirit in the sidecar

Watch him, he's lovely.

His name is apt don't you think? Shall we adopt him Grin

Edinbugger · 11/06/2013 23:07

OMG - I love spirit - just blubbed at that link. (But not at the tongue scraping ad that preceded it and which I watched for ages looking for a dog called 'spirit'.)

One vote for adopting him. (Not least because he looks a little like a lovely ex boyfriend of mine - even though he's a dog. Obviously.)

And I wonder why I should stop drinking.

Edinbugger · 11/06/2013 23:08

Thanks guggen - you've made me feel better.

Fairenuff · 11/06/2013 23:22

Isinde that place does look amazing, I am Envy

Well, that's my evening whiled away with a bit of chat and bus web surfing.

Edin make sure you drink at least lots of water before you go to sleep and take a another glass up with you x

Night all

Edinbugger · 11/06/2013 23:33

A little marker - just for my own reference.

The last eleven days I have gone to bed feeling brilliant - clean and fresh and alert and proud. Tonight, after ploughing into the wine, I feel guilty and sweaty and can't even type straight (this post has been corrected several times). Nuff said.

Hi everyone (purple and mouse are you ok??).
I just reread back to the start and it feels like a real journey! I feel like a different person much more calm and clear headed. Much happier really. Nothing can really bother me now I think. Thats in spite of the fact that the work situation is as bad as ever and ive been treated very badly. I looked back and really appreciate the support I got here from you all on that. It made all the difference. I dont know what im going to do about it but the entire world seems a nicer place and it feels like being set free as never give ww a single thought anymore. A real good consequence of that has been a real enhancing in my relationship with both my kids and they are now also both more happy and settled which reflects back on me - a virtuous circle all around. As far as work goes I will put it in its insignificant place. Useful for paying bills but little else. My workaholic dedicated tendencies have thankfully been beaten out of me and meant absolutely nothing - a good lesson to learn!! Xxx to all

Edinbugger · 11/06/2013 23:40

Cheers Inde - just so pissed off at myself. Again.

Edinbugger · 11/06/2013 23:42

fullof - what a lovely positive post. Really inspiring.

fullofhopefullness · 11/06/2013 23:50

Thx edin I would love to pass this feeling of freedom on. Day 27 in 10 mins. Its the difference between desperately trying to stop and really not wanting any anymore and id love to pass it on to everyone over this network and through the airwaves:-)
