how long til you got married?

Just wondering really, started seeing a guy and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna end up marrying him!

How long were you with your boyfriend/girlfriend before you got married?

Im dying to hear loads of happy stories!

12 years!

Met at 18, moved in together at 20, engaged at 28, married at 30, DS at 32. Been a couple for 18 years now.

Engaged after 6 months (but knew we wanted to be together from early weeks) and married after a year.

Oooh i could have written this OP, ive met someone too who i would marry in a heart beat but its very early days and i feel a bit daft for even thinking that!

Will be 5 years when we get married. But we knew and talked about how we wanted to be married and have kids from very early on.

he asked me to marry him the day we met (as students at an international university competition) I was 17 and he was 18.

I said 'yes' immediately. We did have to finish Uni before we got married, took us 4 years from start to finish. (I'm American) and he had to have a stable job for 12 months before my father gave him permission.

we've been married almost 7 years now, but have been together about 12 years. :)

5 years but we were only 20/21 and at uni when we got together. Married nearly 8 years now.

18 months. After 6 we both knew we were serious. Formal engagement after another 6, wedding 6 months after that. 21 years ago.

About 18 months, got engaged after about 9 months. Been married for nearly 9 years.

Queenofwhispers I can't decide if you're nuttier for saying yes to a man you'd just met, or for actually waiting for permission from your father!

Threads like this are fun but pointless. For everyone saying three months there will be someone else saying 20 years. It very much depends on your personality types and also life stages. I'd bet there are far more quick engagements around the 30-40 mark!

Met at 18/19

Started going out at 19/20

Engaged at 23

Married/moved in together at 24

Been married 18 years.

I don't know when I was sure, but dh says he was freaked out when we'd been together for about 3 weeks and I was getting excited about something and the thought went through his head "this is the woman I want to be he mother of my children". And I am - had dd1 in 2000 (both 29), ds in 2002 and dd2 (and a vasectomy Grin ) in 2003.

ermmm, there's always a wide variety of timings.

Met DP when I was 18, moved in when 21, still with him at nearly 45 never married and 2DCs aged 13 and 9.

As we all want different things, there's never going to be consistency on these sort of events.

We had been together for nearly 5yrs and been living together for 2yrs when he propsed and we got married the following year. 6th wedding anniversary (and 3 kids) this autumn

1.5 years till he proposed and a total of 3 until we got married.

When he proposed I gave a conditional yes, as there were some ishoos. With hindsight, I should have ended it there.
Oh well.

But if it feels right for you, then it probably is. :)

My DP asked me to marry him on our first date! We'd been friends for a few months prior to our first date. I'm not a slushy romantic, having been burned a few times before and one failed marriage, but I knew that night I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.

I would have married him anyway, regardless of what my father said but it was nice to make him feel included.

Met in November and moved in together in the January. Engaged in the June and married in the September. Twins arrived in the May Grin

Been married 9 years and now have 3 beautiful girls. I just knew pretty early on that we were right together

Went out for a date on the Thursday. Knew we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together and ended previous LTR on the Friday ( whoops one day overlap).
Got married nearly 3 years later.
That was 30 years ago and I am still crazy about her
Maybe we are just lucky
