The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Are Going To Need A Bigger Bus!

Mouseface · 08/01/2013 11:59

Hello, tis me, Mouse Smile

Welcome to the Brave Babes Battle Bus, it's a place of solace, support and sanctuary, but also it's also a Bus full of chatterboxes, waffling on about all sorts!

Our aim this year is to kick the WineWitch or WW into touch and get sober!

Some of the Babes on board are doing Dry January, some drink in moderation, some just drink. Some of us are sober, some of us are trying so very, very hard to be.

Some of us have been dry for days, weeks, months and some of us years...... some of us are just starting out and are scared of what stopping drinking means. It's not forever, it's just for today if that's what you want.

We have a saying on the Bus One Day At A Time. Or ODAAT Smile

Take each moment, each day and each blip as it comes.

Although some Babes have been here a while and kind of 'know' each other, we all have different lives, different roles to play, different places to sit on the Bus, but we ALL have or have had abusive relationships with alcohol and we're here because we want that to change; for the better.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME HERE so don't be afraid to just jump right in and say hello. Post as much or as little as you like! It's all up to you.

For those who want to catch up - here is the PREVIOUS THREAD

And the first ever thread, with links to the others over the last almost 3 years! FIRST THREAD

EastHollyDaleStreet · 15/01/2013 13:52

Aw thank you! Still finding it a bit blergh and still tired in the mornings (could be due to MonsterCat suddenly becoing insecure and 'miawwwwwing' all sodding night Grin ) but on the whole it's good - I am reserving spaces here at the front and fully expect a rush Wink

Hi all been lurking and reading a lot! this thread is amazing been helping me lots.

Ive been doing well lately, I did have a small amout of wine on Sat night Hmm
apart from that nothing Smile. Had a near miss last nght but avoided it by going swimming by the time I was done was too chilled out to think about wine. For me a real weapon in fighting this is too exercise- finding it one thing that actually works!! What are your distractions??

BABYJANE1 sending you hugs - felt like you so many times

lrd interesting to hear about how alcohol weakens your bones, now I know why my knee was always aching after a skinfull.

sobasama well done for resisting the sauvigan blan, thats my weakness too

Well am going to take a seat near the back of the bus xx

determinedma · 15/01/2013 15:44

did nobody notice that I said I have BURSITIS!!!

babyjane1 · 15/01/2013 15:45

jango great to hear from you, just coming back in here and knowing you babes are all fighting the same battle has perked up tremendously so thanks for backing that up. X and mia you post re the empty stomach first glass buzz, that really hit a chord with me, I often skip my evening meal to get more "performance" from my 12.5% wine. Tonight I having a lovely "clean" stir fry nice and early to avoid triggers, I just keep thinking every time I get back on the bus I have learned a bit more to help me succeed the next time. Firmly strapped in my seat and have a rolled up magazine ready to whack that wine bitch if she comes near me or my babes x

SobaSoma · 15/01/2013 15:46

I love Miranda Joey but DD hates it when I do my Heather Small impersonation! Well done East on 2 weeks sans (sorry Joey) booze. Does Monstercat sleep in your room? Our cat is kept downstairs at night because she can't keep her paws to herself!

babyjane1 · 15/01/2013 15:47

Thanks for my hug earlier ma really needed it x

smellsliketeenspunk · 15/01/2013 15:48

just a quick drop in, I'm at work but for once a positive post from me. I'm sure I've read that the health benefits of abstinence/reduction of alcohol kick in very quickly. I think your liver begins to function better, in a matter of weeks, obviously depending on any damage. your brain, if it has shrunken (scarey, I know) or the connections have diminished improves over monthy. These time scales are just from what I can remember and i will be happy to be corrected but I think they are fairly accurate. it's always going to be well worth any reduction.

i absolutely agree with other posters that far too little is done for those struggling with alcohol abuse. More worryingly the message is not getting through to youngsters that alcohol is a dangerous drug. The stigma somehow of addiction to booze has not been reduced as it has for tobacco. not that i think giving up smoking is easy or should be stigmatised. but my sons certainly have got the message about cigarettes but not beer. I know that's mainly my fault but it is hard.

thanks again everyone for your kind words. my treatment's going well and only another 1 1/2 weeks to go.

BABY (((())))

Tigerinthegrass · 15/01/2013 16:08

ma poor you, bursitis sounds painful. What did the doc suggest? It's inflammation isint it? I read up on it when I was diagnosing my hip and leg pain

aliasjoey · 15/01/2013 16:32

sorry maI did read bursitis but all your other achievements are so brilliant it got overlooked. maybe you overdid the boot camp, I'm sure I read you've been walking miles?

and BTW what the hell is wrong with my feckin husband and children... I feel very angry - lots of little things, nothing serious - am not drinking, but not sure how else to handle it. am going to try writing it all down, and applying a bit of CBT.

Tigerinthegrass · 15/01/2013 16:36

joey what's up? What are they doing?

PurpleWolfe · 15/01/2013 17:15

Thank you Gugg, Ma and Baby for asking about me after yesterday. Today's not been too much better. Close to tears a lot at the mo'. DC at ExP's tonight so on my own. Hope this shifts soon. Not got any alcohol in the house but wishing that feckin' shop wasn't there, so close, still open for nearly another 3 hours Sad Ma TF is still on the hook but not been able to reel him in just yet. Hmm Hopefully see him this weekend. Was supposed to meet up with Stone Mason but can't be bothered so am putting him off because of the weather. Baby (()) for you. Thanks again, Lovelies. x

if, as seems increasingly likely, I kill my daughter tonight I will blame the Bus. if it wasn't for you lot, I would be drunkenly ignoring her Total Arseyness.

as it is, there is every chance I will soberly murder her

Okay, no murders please - you won;t be able to use 'diminished responsiblity' so will go to Holloway Grin.
purple :( hope this evening goes well, whatever you do - just try to stay positive

What's Bursitis??

MonsterCat does in fact sleep on our bed - he's been very calm up until now but according to vet google, he's probably feeling a bit insecure. He's such a lovely relaxed chap, it's horrible to see him all sad :(

Stressful day now over, I had a fleeting thought of having a drink to calm me down but have resisted.

aliasjoey · 15/01/2013 17:45

as you can tell, the CBT is not working. I've had 6 jaffa cakes, and that's helped a bit.

curryeater · 15/01/2013 17:52

Purple, sorry about the tears, hang on, have a cup of tea, do whatever you need to do, put some music on, hang on hang onxxx

Dudes, I have just eaten a ton of crap chocolate, like really a ton, of the really shit sugary variety, and it is making me feel sick and shakey. tell me to woman up
