I don't know about cooking, but I am getting ready to fishslap myself again.

Spaceman was last seen about 8.30. I don't think we've gone this long without communicating in the evening (he text me last night as he arrived at the gym and as he left). I am now thinking 'what if he's on a date?' .

I have never overthought this much before. I never did about Cuthbert, never have about any of the others (although admittedly I never got beyond date 1 with them) Why am I doing this?!

MsArsebiscuit · 03/01/2013 22:20

You're doing this because you've forgotten your new dating alter ego ' Velvet the Blasé ' - you don't care whether he texts or not because, you know you're just sooooo busy doing such hugely interesting and cool things and fending off Cuthbert's advances, it's a drag but it comes with the territory, being so damn sexy. Throaty laugh, drag on your Gitanes, toss ebony mane.

KirstyWirsty · 03/01/2013 22:25

velvet love you really need to get a life and spaceman or cuthbert or whoever else who comes along would be an addition to that life instead of the be all and end all.. Have you not got anything else to do apart from watching your clock and your phone? You are an intelligent woman .. What would you normally be doing if you hadn't met him? Have you ever read Why Men Love Bitches? It is very entertaining but the basic common sense message is don't give up yourself to be with a man .. You should read it

If you were a RL friend I would use a real wet fish!!

mercury7 · 03/01/2013 22:30

just had a message from some cretin that he's bored and needs some fun, I said thanks for letting me know but I'd have to be really really bored to even consider 'fun' with him
I spose I must be a bit bored or I'd not be cretin baiting Blush

notthegrinch · 03/01/2013 22:41

Ok ike-y I'll pm you his user name Grin

Nomorepain · 03/01/2013 22:41

I might have come out from od hiding because sailing man sent me a message and after a few exchanges of messages and me telling him I am closing my profile he sent me his number!! I like sailing boy. He seems genuine. Non pushy. And he can spell and write sensical, funny messages!!

I am so fickle!!! Apologies for my drama queen antics today! Just got it bit tough at mo!!!

MsArsebiscuit · 03/01/2013 22:46

Not really relevant but if anyone sees a suitably aged version of Gael Garcia Bernal on any of the sites, please alert me post haste because I need to appoint him The New Mr Biscuit

Thanks in advance.

Hi
I am new to this thread-hope that is ok! I have a date tomorrow evening, met OL. Chatting for a couple of weeks, seems nice and straightforward but I don't know a huge amount about him.

This is only my second date since divorce 4 years ago and the first one was day time in a coffee shop.

This is Friday evening for drinks. The suggested place is a very nice city centre bar/restaurant. I have no idea what to wear, if I was going with friends I would wear a dress and heels -but think this is too dressy?

Would a top/trousers be ok or skinny jean boots and a top or is this too casual?

Also going on public transport is a Farr and the place is 15 min walk from train station and a taxi is expensive. also if Goes badly worry I can't get away quickly but very busy area so probably just being daft.

I think I would prefer to drive, would that be strange since I agreed to go for a drink, also I am shy but much less shy after a drink or so....

Don't know what to do-HELP!

Scattylatte · 03/01/2013 22:50

So, I've decided to delete firemans number. Back to the drawing board. Why? I felt the dynamics were shifting and I was making the contact. Also he when we were arranging dates he said he couldn't see me today as he was working and couldn't possibly change it. Then today he text to say he was with his son. No big deal but telling me he was with his son would have been 100% ok. I'm a mother, I'm 44. Being honest is fine. Plus Im not into constant joking on text and I want someone to take an interest in me.

velvet my feelings are that you see the contact as a measurement and reassurance that you are attractive/ok. You are both of these things, whether men contact you or not. Don't over cook for him either. Maybe a take away.

fayster · 03/01/2013 22:58

Just dropping by to say hello.

Velvet, relax, woman! Something done in the slow cooker, or like Yoga's chicken recipe (i think it was Yoga), are good options because they'll be delicious without looking like you've tried too hard.

Snape, Dumbledore sounds like he could be good for you. I was a bit worried that MrWalking has several things in common with my ex, and wondered if the universe was trying to tell me something. I decided it was trying to tell me that these things are not what made my ex a tosser. He was a tosser because of how he treated me, not the others coincidental things.

Yoga, hope Yogadog is still on the mend. Orange Dog here has been very clingy for a couple of days, and has been sleeping more than usual. He was right off his food, but is eating again now. He's not generally a good eater though, so I don't worry.

Bant, I don't know how you do it. Don't you get tired of dating at the rate you do it?

BantaBaby · 03/01/2013 23:00

Hi fedup

he probably really won't notice what you're wearing, just whether you look nice or not. jeans and a top is fine. Just don't wear a wedding gown, that's a bad look for a first date.

Why not get the train, then taxi from the station to the restaurant? that's not going to be too expensive that way is it? I'd recommend having a coffee/tea or soft drink first to give yourself a little time sober, but then a bit of booze to let the barriers down a bit. That's my preferrred approach, but too much booze risks goggles. Alcohol encourages chemistry, too much alchohol encourages biology. And biology on a first date can be a bad idea.

ike1 · 03/01/2013 23:03

Hey Grinchy just pm'd you. Ta.x

ike1 · 03/01/2013 23:04

Ooooh Arse yes!yes!

BantaBaby · 03/01/2013 23:05

Oh and I started talking to MissGuiness at the same time as CabinCrew and ShoeGirl, it's just that because it was Christmas, and MsG and SG both have DC it took more time to arrange things.

So, SG is funnier, although MsG has got wittier in the last few days. She doesn't look like my type so much, although I'm not sure what my type is anymore.

Cabincrew is more attractive, haven't heard from her since our date though.

And I haven't had that many dates. One every couple of weeks? I did point out I'm charming and witty. And stunningly gorgeous. And modest. And don't tend to act like a horny baboon as soon as someone replies to my mail, which I think helps.

Yogagirl17 · 03/01/2013 23:06

Apparently crotch-grabbing on a first date can also be a bad idea Wink

fayster · 03/01/2013 23:06

Welcome, fedup. I'd say wear whatever you feel comfortable in. If it was me, for drinks I'd go with skinny jeans, boots (with a heel?) and a nice top. Save the dress for when he asks you out for dinner.

If you want to drive, I think it's fine to meet someone for a drink, and not have an alcoholic drink. I always drive on a first date, partly because public transport is rubbish here, but also because then I won't drink and I prefer not to on a first meeting. Plenty of other people will have a drink to relax, though.

VelvetSpoon · 03/01/2013 23:10

fedup I think skinny jeans, heels and a dressy sort of top are entirely acceptable for an evening date- having said that I don't think a dress & heels would be overdressed either...wear whichever you feel more comfortable in.

Re transport, if you feel better taking the car then do so - don't worry about it looking strange, it really won't. You can just say that public transport was a hassle/taxi too expensive/weather was crap so easier to drive directly there, whatever. It would be the same if you'd got public transport there and decided (for whatever reason) not to drink. Honestly, dont worry about it. (Having said that Banta's suggestion sounds a good one re train/taxi)

Scatty thats a shame re fireman BUT I can see why, those little unnecessary untruths are pointless, and you want a conversation not just comedy. How are the other possibilities looking?

ike1 · 03/01/2013 23:11

I am sat in bed with my laptop alongside 2 children on their DSs - this is the sum total of what passes as 'action' in my bedroom these days!

BantaBaby · 03/01/2013 23:14

actually Yoga could you FB or send me those heating times for the chorizo/chicken thing (that was yours, right?) It sounds lovely

BantaBaby · 03/01/2013 23:19

Right. As some of you know, I had a beard. Some of you (I don't know how) persuaded you to shave it off, so I'm now on about 4 or 5 days worth of stubble. ShoeGirl likes stubble (she has a list of things she likes and dislikes, which usually puts me off but I thought they were funny)

So, do I go cleanshaven tomorrow night for a date with MissGuinness, who seems nice but I'm not really blown away by things so far, and only have two days stubble when I meet SG. What's the right amount of stubble for someone who like stubble (yeah I know this is a stupid question) - a millimetre? two? more? less?

Yogagirl17 · 03/01/2013 23:20

Of course Bant - too late to text my friend now but I'll ask her tomorrow.

ike1 · 03/01/2013 23:24

Depends if you are planning to do some tongue wrestling bant....personally I cant stand having my chin sandpapered by stubble
