Age gaps

Do you think a 30 year old going out with a 47 year old is too much of an age gap and old enough to be my Father and not likely to work? I have lots in common with this man, makes me laugh and we get on very well. Only been seeing eachother 2 months but feel at ease in each others company.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I have a slightly younger DP but ex was quite a few years older (and age was nothing to do with the split). IMO it's attitude as well as age.

My own DF is only a couple of years older they mother, but much younger acting.

As long as everyone is honest and you go in with your eyes open I don't see an issue with 17 years although it's probably at the limit of age gaps I'd consider without a thorough exploration. (TBH I'd do that anyway if the relationship progresses - it's good to confirm that expectations are aligned).

A good relationship should be able to adapt (within reason).

I haven't had chance to read all the replies but I think it's mainly down to attitude (on both sides). Obviously you need to have similar views/morals on life and you sound like you get on great together so you must share these.

I would say if you find yourself having a conversation and thinking, oh god he sounds like my dad etc then your not suited, or if you don't have anything in common then it's not worth pursuing but you sound like you really like him and want confirmation that the 'age gap' is ok. Well no one can tell you that, as I'm sure you'll see on here there's people who have a cut off limit on age and those who think it's not an issue.

I'm in the latter camp, 12 years between DP and I, met at 17, him 29. Been together a few wks short of 8 years, DD of 4 and DC 2 on the way. I would say I must have been fairly mature for my age, my parents were considered older (in the 80s) when they had me and I spent alot of time with people older than me, also my bro and sis are 15 and 13 yrs older than me so maybe that was a factor.

It's your choice, if you like him and get on well and don't even consider his age when your with him then go for it and most importantly, be happy! x
