Has anyone come to the conclusion that they'd be better living their life single?

I really feel like I just don't want to be in a relationship at all. I dream about moving away on my own once the dc have all left home. I'm sure Im just not cut out for a relationship and wonder why we all seem to feel like we need to be in a couple to be happy.

yes, there are many routes to joy, lovesineffable, great point!

Just nipped on here

Bibi love your description of having to share a bed something I have always loathed. Why do we have this tradition ? On Downton Abbey they have separate rooms Grin. Seriously though when I used to feel some awful hot limb flung on me my heart sank.

I am now feeling that actually I can talk about being single with pride rather than feeling like I need to apologise

XH (who had someone lined up when he left) saw a friend of mine the other day and it was reported to me he had said " How is gettingeasier ? I just wish she could find someone " with his best someone just died soft voice. Idiot.

I've been wondering, if you have posted on this thread, do you think you will always live alone (albeit with DCs)?
Do you see yourself as growing old and dying without a companion?
Or do you imagine/hope that it will turn out differently?

ToothbrushThief · 29/04/2012 10:30

I do think I will die alone. I'm approaching 50 and men in that age group go for younger ladies ...and then they die early so odds are on me being alone one way or another.

I would like a partner to climb mountains with, travel and enjoy 'dates'. Do I want to tolerate a 'live in body' that irritates, diminishes or otherwise is a negative in my life? I suspect many relationships are about compromise but when you live alone you don't have to...or maybe it is just another compromise.

(I realise I've picked the negatives about a 'live in body' but you can only go on what you've known)

Cutted, I'm not averse to the idea of a relationship, a companion of sorts but I'm very solitary and prefer to spend most of my time alone, I mean I have very little need for company.
The idea of a 'live in body' makes me feel extremely anxious!!

apart from anything else, men (frommy experience) generate more than half of the housework, so even if they do 50% of it (as if Hmm ) they still arent pulling their own weight.

It's so much easier on my own, I barely need to lift a finger to keep on top of domestic chores because there's so much less to do GrinGrinGrin
