The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Staying Springy In Their Quest For Sobriety.

Hello, I'm Mouse Smile I have an shockingly abusive relationship with alcohol, mainly vodka.

This Bus is full of drinkers, non-drinkers, thinkers and Babes, all trying to find their way to a happy, sober life.

Some are there, some are almost there and some are not. It really doesn't matter, we're all in this together.

Why not find a seat? Everyone is welcome, drinking or drunk, come and say hello. Smile

HERE is the previous thread, with a link to all of the other wonderful journeys so far............

You see, I'm thinking that there must be a tiny glimmer casa or else why post on here?

Are there any circumstances where you don't drink, or any places that you go where drinking is not such an issue for you? Could you go there this evening instead? Could you spend time with a friend?

Do you drink every evening at home, and if not what are the circumstances when you don't? Is your dp with you at home? Could you ask him to get rid of every bit of booze in the house (including all your hidden stash)?

You said in a previous post that AA didn't work for you, but could you give it another try tonight?

Greyhound · 16/04/2012 17:16

SAF that is what I think happened with my grandfather. I think he had bipolar in the days where it was less understood and where treatment was more difficult - I have been on some of the earlier anti psychotics in the past and they have horrible side effects. So, I think my grandfather took to drink to self medicate. Very sad.

I find the meds very helpful but getting the balance of meds right is difficult - sometimes, the meds stop working so well and then you start all over again with new meds, new side effects etc. One thing I know is that booze is NOT a helpful medication for anything, let alone bipolar.

Greyhound · 16/04/2012 17:17

Okay, after a cup of coffee the cravings are easing off a little. Please God let them go away altogether. It is like the devil on my shoulder.

Greyhound · 16/04/2012 17:18

Ferfux I'm feeling exactly the same as you are. It's a bugger.

swallowedAfly · 16/04/2012 17:21

tip it away greyhound - it wasn't your friend this weekend, it hasn't made you feel good. why have it in your house?

helpyourself · 16/04/2012 17:22

casa I don't think am there yet.

Really? What will happen to get you there? Do you think you'll be any more ready if your daughter is taken away or you go to prison or kill someone?

Or do you think there's no there for you?

ferfuxake · 16/04/2012 17:22

Crackers, crackers, crackers. (eating them, not commenting on my mental state. )

Greyhound · 16/04/2012 17:27

I think I am okay, the cravings have lessened.

swallowedAfly · 16/04/2012 17:36

but why keep the wine greyhound? what is it there for ?

day 6 has been a bit less boingy with the odd patch of grump and exhaustion tbh. it's all ok though. didn't do much - dog walk and a bit of shopping at the local shop after backing out of supermarket run, some laundry and not a lot else.

tomorrow needs to be more productive and it will be as ds is back to school (at last!! bad mummy ).

roll on bedtime!

Greyhound · 16/04/2012 17:40

I know this sounds stupid, but I can't bring myself to chuck it out :( I am afraid to do it. Arrrrrggggghhhh I hate this!

ilovemyelectricblanket · 16/04/2012 17:53

CHUCK IT DOWN THE SINK GREYHOUND.

Buy some more on Friday night. Something lovely that you will enjoy and appreciate.
Youre NOT drinking during the week remember.
CHUCK IT DOWN THE SINK. I WILL PUT A CHEQUE IN THE POST FOR THE MONEY.

Seriously. Once its gone its gone. Throw it out teh back door. Smash it. Get rid of it.

Then you can breathe.
x

ilovemyelectricblanket · 16/04/2012 17:53

Sorry for the capitals.....
x

ferfuxake · 16/04/2012 17:56

Hmmm. Vomiting child - excellent distraction. All dealt with now. Time for another Becks blue to see me through to bath time.

I sympathise greyhound. Have half a bottle of red watching me. Should throw it away but just can't. Besides DH might want it later.

SarahRT · 16/04/2012 18:06

It really is demonic isn't it Greyhound? Wouldn't give it to pets, plants or children and yet we neck it and crave it. An article was written in the Lancet that alcohol is now a bigger threat than Crack or Heroin. Wine being the starter for ten. Please throw it away.

Casa you know the score, you have done 5 rehabs. All I can say is I hope that you find what you are looking for outside of the bottle. Nothing frightens a hazardous drunk, so not even going to try, but when you are ready support will be here and where ever else you seek it.

SadSoma · 16/04/2012 18:16

Yes, chuck it down the plughole Greyhound - I just can't keep wine in the house, too much of a temptation. But well done for resisting so far and you too Ferfux. I think I'm over the worst and am about to have tea so home and dry - after I eat the cravings tend to disappear. For today at least....

Sarah at last society seems to be waking up to the dangers of alcohol - it makes me mad when the people in charge bang on about how awful illegal drugs are when the only legal one does by far the most damage of all.

Casa, echo what Sarah says and know how awful it is to be in custody. It happened to me a few years back as a result of a binge (not driving-related but assaulted a police officer Blush ) and lucky to get out with a caution.

Greyhound · 16/04/2012 18:18

Wouldn't give it to pets, plants or children and yet we neck it and crave it

God, Sarah, that is so true. Off to chuck the blasted stuff down the sink. There's no point keeping it until the weekend as the bottle is opened and it will go off - of course, that wouldn't necessarily put me off drinking the damned stuff.

I'm sure wine is becoming a bigger threat than any other drink - it's just everywhere.

By the way, the window cleaner came to collect his money this evening and asked me if I was going to have some wine as he knew I liked it - CRINGE! Even he knows I'm a pisshead! I told him I was giving it up and he was amazed.

Greyhound · 16/04/2012 18:20

A friend of mine, an alcoholic who drinks at least one bottle of spirits every day, has been banned from driving at least three times. In the end, someone had to take her keys from her.

This lady has completely broken down mentally. She has become paranoid and accused people (her friends, in fact) of assaulting her etc.

Greyhound · 16/04/2012 18:25

Okay, ladies, I've done it - one bottle of white wine poured down the sink instead of into my liver. I did waver for a minute - it did look so delicious and cold and smelt lovely. But it's gone now. Thanks for the support :) Tonight I will sleep well and feel no shame and no alcohol induced dehydration.

SadSoma · 16/04/2012 18:27

Well done. Hopefully gave your u-bend a good cleaning out in the process :)

ferfuxake · 16/04/2012 18:29

Well done greyhound. DH just home now and bless him has also opened a booze free beer. That should make this evening much more bearable.

Sunnywithachanceofshowers · 16/04/2012 18:31

Well done Greyhound.

Hello Casa.

Feeling shitty tonight, drank last night and didn't get enough sleep.

KirstyWirsty · 16/04/2012 18:32

Hi .. I'm not in the same boat seriousness wise .. I'm on day 7.. stocked up on ginger beer and soda water and lime cordial today.. I am coping surprisingly ok.

just marking my space really

Casa you know you need to put the brakes on .. we're all right behind you x

SarahRT · 16/04/2012 18:33

YAY well done Greyhound. Strong babe, and in control of that one ghastly bottle. You have made my cyber day.

Ferfuxake, that is a great gesture from dh, well done him too. He must love you lotsly. x

Got my last rl babe to see then I am going to have a ginger cardamon thingy that Mia suggested. Been thinking about that all afternoon.

Lucozade have made a new range of drinks called 'Revive'. For those of you who like sweet and sparkling, flavours include lemongrass and ginger, and cranberry and acai. And they all have added vitamin B3 (fights tiredness), B5, B6 and B12 (everyday energy release).

Could you tell that I'm reading it off the bottle?
