The Brave Babes Battle Bus - New Year, New Start, The Journey So Far.........

Mouseface · 28/01/2012 15:33

Hello, I'm Mouse Smile

Welcome. There are all kinds of lovely Babes on board this Bus, drinkers, non-drinkers, part-time drinkers and those who have no idea what they are when it comes to drinking. Some are newer posters and some have been here forever for a little while. Wink

Come and say hi, there are no rules, no 'must haves', just plenty of open and honest support.

You can talk about whatever you like. Your life, your love or even your laundry. We've seen it all! Grin

The important thing is that you can post if you want to, or not if you don't. There are posters in AA and posters who are using medication to beat The Booze and of course posters who are just trying to cut their drinking down with the support of The Bus and the people around them.

Boo too!

Feeling okay this morning but have drunk two nights in the last three, so haven't been feeling too clever.

Mouseface · 29/01/2012 11:06

Here we are Brave Babes. Smile xx

hello Smile

i think oats are acid forming as well mouse Grin

you can have stuff but you have to work out which you want and how to balance them out by having more alkaline foods than acid. so if you want chicken with your meal you're going to have to add 3 good alkaline vegetables to your plate. water with lemon juice added to it is also alkalising so that's a good way to get it in. a healthy person is only aiming to eat slightly more alkaline than acid - when trying to recover or get to a healthy balance you need lots less acid than alkaline.

don't go mad - just try to massively up your veg intake, down your caffeine, sweeteners, sugar and alcohol and avoid too much white flour and processed stuff.

wish me luck with sitting at a table with red wine on it without having any Smile

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 29/01/2012 11:40

you could do what i'm doing and get a juicer. if you had your toast you could counter it by having a glass of fruit and veg juice afterwards.

Mouseface · 29/01/2012 11:51

Good idea Saf - I have a juicing setting on my food processor thingy.....

Good luck sitting through dinner without touching a drop Smile xx

Roast chicken here so I'll skip the potatoes and have peas, broccoli and carrots.

Off to play with Nemo, back later xx

found you!! Grin
not had much time this weekend for MN due to birthday stuff for DS. Taking them carting this afternoon then will hopefully get rid of the little buggers dear children and get a chance to put my feet up.
Top tip - if you use Blue Dragon stirfry sauces,(and why wouldn't you?), then they are 4 for a pound in The Pound Shop as opposed to 60p for one in Sainsbury's. Also got Gillette shaving foam, and Colgate toothpaste - £1 each.
Bargain-tastic!

Fairenuff · 29/01/2012 12:22

Where do potatos fall, are they acid forming? I'm finding this stuff very interesting. I think due to my diet I am getting more alkaline on my plate each mealtime, than acid. Apart from breakfast. That is a tricky one.

Saf how about taking a becks blue with you so you don't get tempted by the wine. Well done on this week's units, you seem to be finding some balance.

Ma I think my diet is getting to me. Last night I dreamed I ate that gingerbread cake! T'was delicious Grin.

Hose has gone food shopping and is tasked with bring me home a hair dye. I'm trusting him to choose a suitable shade Hmm Grin.

Right off to clean the bathroom . . . (my life is such a whirl) . . .

PS Today I will not be drinking Smile

HueyMorganismyboyfriend · 29/01/2012 12:28

Hello lovely babes! Hope you are all well.

Roast Chicken sounds yum lazy day here, watching the Auzzie open with ds

Haven't done a roast in ages, we're having lasagne I made yesterday.

Will swing by later, well done on another dry/mindful weekend.

christi glad the speech went well x

And January is nearly feckin over!

Xxx

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 29/01/2012 13:22

yes acid fair. easiest way to up your alkaline is to add lemon to every glass of water. how's the diet going? i've lost about 9lbs since before christmas. seems to go up and down but with an overall trend of down which is cool. well done for sticking with it.

bloody good point huey! we can soon say goodbye to january Smile

Cristiane · 29/01/2012 14:51

Marking my place

It was stress-relieving once it was over, sssm, not before! Also letting my hair down and having a night out was fun, silly dancing to silly music etc

Hope everyone ok x

venusandmars · 29/01/2012 16:26

I know that I'm way too late with this, seeing as OATS are acid forming, but this is my most favourite breakfast:

Oats mixed with equivalent amount of orange juice (e.g. 200g oats mixed with 200mls juice). Leave overnight. In the morning add half a tub of yoghurt (lemond curd is my favourite), a grated apple, some chopped nuts or desicated cocnut, and anything else you fancy.

imho it is much better than the slimy, slippery hot porridge stuff (and that's from a Scot).

venusandmars · 29/01/2012 16:28

Sould have said coconut (not cocnut - which is far too exciting for breakfast).

christi glad your evening was such fun Grin

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 29/01/2012 17:09

i envy people who can eat a breakfast like that - i couldn't get one mouthful down without gagging i'm afraid. i bet that really sets you up for the day venus Smile

managed to say no thank you and stick to it with the wine at the table today. also watched my sister wrestling over her second glass. she has taken to making a point of having a glass of water before she moves on to her next drink and there's observing her there's this tense pause for ages where although the rest of the world is still going on around her for her there's only that decision holding all her attention. it was so clear to watch today - she actually did it with her hand held flat on the empty glass. i could see her wrestling. eventually she was asked if she wanted more wine or not because of driving and she attempted to sound so casual when she said, 'oh i can have a little more yes please' but the glass jerked out.

weird watching other people when you're not drinking. my mum and dad clearly don't have a problem with alcohol. they can have that first glass and leave it at that or go for another half glass if they feel like it. they have a drinks cabinet and once in a while one might say to the other ooh i just fancy a nightcap and they might have a brandy or something.

anyway - sorry for waffle - just interesting seeing the difference between drinkers.

dementedma · 29/01/2012 19:02

back from karting...Ds had a blast and ......HE WON.
he so desperately wanted to win as it was his birthday and we had had the talk about taking part and enjoying it etc etc. After the first heat he was 3rd and the sheer determination on his face in the second heat was so funny!
Other than a nasty bump at the end which gave him a sore lip, he loved in and has, for the first time in his life, won a trophy for something sporting!
he is so very proud and now has street credGrin

Fairenuff · 29/01/2012 19:08

I agree Saf it's quite fascinating. I'm so glad dh is a 'normal' drinker, helps me to stay mindful. In the last 3 weeks I have used all the willpower and strategies I know to resist drinking. In the same 3 weeks, Hose has had one pint of beer and one small whisky because that's all he fancied. He really can take it or leave it. He was given a bottle of wine as a late Christmas present and that's still in the larder. I would have probably drunk it the same night!

Anyway, diet is keeping me focussed because if I drink I will eat crap. I've lost about 9lb too Smile.

In case anyone is wondering, the hair dye is a lovely, rich, chestnut brown. Not one I've tried before, but suits me and looks lovely Grin

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 29/01/2012 19:36

well done on the loss and the gorgeous hair Smile

glad ds enjoyed himself ma.

SillyStrokeSensibleMum · 29/01/2012 19:58

Evening.

Congrats on not having wine, and the weight loss Saf, that's great. A nice reward for your healthy living Smile Yiur sister sounds like she's struggling, poor thing. That was a really good point about watching her - like the world is going on al around her but all she can think about is the next drink. Been there sooo many times and it's horrible, and more tiring/stressful than someone who hadn't been there would think. And such a waste of energy. This is totally different but I was in Iceland the other day (the shop...Grin) and I noticed a woman standing behind me at the till and all she was buying was a bottle of gin. It was half eleven in the morning, and she stank of booze. Yet on the face of it looked like your average woman. I caught her eye (although I tried not to) and I could sense her shame and also her desperation straight away. Poor thing Sad. I seem to come across quite a few reminders of why I shouldn't drink these days. Never really saw them before.

Venus I am loving the sound of your breakfast. Lemon curd yoghurt is one of my favourite things. So do you add the apple etc in the morning? And do you eat it cold? I do like a hot breakfast in the winter (although not cocnut hot!Blush).

Faire, look at you with your fancy new hair! Sounds lovely Smile. I won't let DH choose anything that requires any kind of taste or anything. Hose sounds fab!

It is sooo cold here. Good excuse for another hot chocolate. Tonight I will not be drinking Smile

dementedma · 29/01/2012 21:10

venus cocnut sounds interesting, as long as DH isn't involved!!
I have had a pretty crap weekend drink-wise. promise to try harder this week. DH did very well last week, and has also bought me one of those jigsaw mat things so i can do jigsaws in the evening and then roll it up and put it away so we can use the table. Maybe this will occupy my fingers and mind and keep me off the booze. Determined to have a better week this week.

Silver66 · 29/01/2012 21:18

Ma jigsaws - you are a woman after my own heart Grin

Fairenuff · 29/01/2012 21:36

Ma I never bother to roll them up, just put a tablecloth over the top. As long as you're not trying to have a posh dinner party, it works just fine Smile. Don't leave the box of pieces near your cat if you have one, though Hmm.

thurso1 · 29/01/2012 21:50

Evening Babes!!

I found you!! But can't find the end of the last thread!, probably a bit bleary eyed after having made the gargantuan mistake of driving up to Mayfair [nuts icon!].

Claridges was pretty wonderful, though, and I just didn't want to mess up my hair!!, and I got to spend lots of time just talking to DC1, and my, what a lot I have to think about tonight!!

DC told me (while DH was in the boys room) that GF is the one and they are looking to move in together, with a view to getting married. Gobsmacked doesn't quite cover it!, although I suppose in my heart, as I think I have said before, that it doesn't really surprise me, as he is a bit all or nothing (wonder where he gets that from?!)

I'm just a bit 6 months out of uni, and just 21, but that may be because I was 29 when I got married, and it seems very young to me.

JWN you must have some good advice for me?

Sorry to download, but DH doesn't want to talk about it, and I am a bit keyed up.

Love to all, sorry again for me, me, me post.
xxx

Fairenuff · 29/01/2012 22:03

Wow thurso what news! Does he plan to live with her for a while before they marry? Has he actually asked her yet? To marry him, I mean.

dementedma · 29/01/2012 22:05

hey thurso wow, DS has found the one? I don't know what I would think if it was DD, but if she really is the one, then good luck to them.
faire we used to have a cat who slept in jigsaw boxes and batted the pieces round everywhere but he is no longer with usSad. i will have to do this one on my own. What's a tablecloth? Grin

sarahRT · 29/01/2012 22:07

ooh thurso, think I would be gobsmacked even in Claridges!!

Faire your hair does sound lovely, I have long auburn hair, once during an intoxication spree and 'in a moment of I will show you how sad I am', I cut it all off with the kitchen scissors! Looked like an P.O.W for about 3 months. Apart from wearing a hat there wasn't much I could do except tell everyone it was just the change I needed...
ma sorry about the crapness, but pleased about the karting.
Saf, it's really interesting and sometimes so painful to watch the struggle. Always reminds me of that poem, Hear what I am Not Saying. The worst of it is that you know that you can help if they would let you. Up to them though.
I've had a good weekend apart from the sobbing part, and will be off to France for a couple of days on Wednesday to see if the builder has managed to cock up another job.
