Hello,

I'm Mouse, well, I am usually!

Welcome to the Brave Babes Bus. Smile

This is a journey of sobriety, started almost a year ago by the wonderful jesuswhatnext. So why not come aboard and find a seat. There's heaps of support on here whether you are sober, drinking or somewhere in the middle.

And, for those of you who want a bit of history, here are the Previous Threads

yep I'm in the north, been here 13 years but not a native - I'm a bladdy suvvna!! I don't really have any support as I've cut everyone out - it was the right thing for me to do though.
dd's trip is on monday, she's off too edinbugh for 3 days!! It's going to be a very testing time, A)I will have to leave the house to see her off and B) I'll be lost without her!!

I forgot to mention in my last post, despite basically living off takeaways and fried foods for the past fortnight, I've actually lost weight!! Now that's another little benefit to kicking the booze wayhayyy!!!

lovecorrie · 06/05/2011 16:13

dementedma · 06/05/2011 16:30

won't know what to do with myself.

Mouseface · 06/05/2011 16:31

qo - nice to see that you are getting on top of things and well done on the weight loss. Smile

lovecorrie - I'm glad you changed to your usual MN name. There's nothing to be ashamed about on this Bus, we've all been in each other's shoes at one point or another, and some more than once. Smile

Hello chums,

Sorry, very guilty of avoiding anything looking like confrontation on here, hence my "bravo Inde" and vanishing act Blush
One of the best books I've read about addiction is ....."Rachels Holiday" by Marian Keyes, I know, a chic lit book, and very old, but I love it, and it's got a happy ending! Many of her books have characters who are alchoholics, and she writes many a true episode, but not in a worthy way, (yup, I have a fear of worthies!)

Ma I can never imagine myself with a kindle, and Inde Grin.
When I have a book, there is just something about having the real thing, turning actual pages, and not being able to do something else at the same time. Right, back to the museum Grin.

Ma "won't know what to do with myself" are we back to the rabbit conversation/ Blush

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 06/05/2011 17:29

Bold alert!

MIFLAW · 06/05/2011 17:36

Going on holiday for a week tomorrow - do try to struggle through without me.

Chattex - how about I take you to an open meeting of AA so that you can back your undoubtedly principled stance against it with some facts and a clearer sense of how it works in practice? Open meeting means, incidentally, open to non-AAs so you have no need to be a member or even be an alcoholic. It is at least in part for outsiders such as yourself to see how we do things; we have no secrets.

You name the time and place, I'll do what I can to accommodate you.

Can't say fairer than that, can I?

lovecorrie · 06/05/2011 17:37

I have a huge collection of alcoholic books as it weer - Drinking - A love story by Caroline Knapp is very good.

Evening Babes

I am gibbering with sleeplessness. Pre children I never realised that the expression "bouncing baby" was literal, and that the little darlings really do india-rubber out of their cot the moment their sweet little cheeks touch the sheet.

Thurso, I love love love Rachel's Holiday. I picked it up a few years ago on holiday myself, I think, expecting it (from the cover) to be a sun, sea and shagging type affair. Instead it was much more of a lightbulb read. I think (tries to avoid libel) that it's semi-autobiographical, and it did have a real ring of truth. I've been trying to find my copy for the last few weeks, but think I must have lent it out. Wouldn't happen with a Kindle, I telll ya.

Had to do the food shop earlier, which was a bit dodgy on a tired, grumpy Friday. Came out vino-less, though, and with a little bunch of flowers as an alternative treat. Day 2 here after way too much over last weekend and a bottle in 45 mins on Wednesday as I cooked dinner. So much for moderation Hmm

Hope you all have a safe and sober evening and weekend

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 06/05/2011 17:56

talldrinkofwater I used to think that DC1 was like a dolly, but in reverse! you know when dollies open their eyes as you sit them up? DC1 (and 2, come to that) used to be fast asleep, and then "ping" eyes would open as I put them down.

I'm off to get ready to "meet the parents" for Dc's Birthday meal now, feeling a bit grumpy as DH has phoned and texted today, about loads of trivia regarding finances, but never once asked "how was college", or "how are you feeling on this momentous day?". I always get emotional on the children's Birthdays, but, especially this one. He just doesn't get it (or me Hmm).

DC1 sent DC a lovely card, with a message not to trash the house!, which will probably have more effect than all my conversations!

Have good evenings all. I am hoping to take my laptop tomorrow, so will let you know how things progress!!!

Much love
xxx

Thurso congratulations on this big day, you have brought 2 adults into this world! Try not to worry tonight, this is the start of a new phase in life for you and you could try to embrace it. Pat yourself on the back for a mothering job well done.

dementedma · 06/05/2011 20:01

Amazing alliteration Indie
Thurso all will be well. All will be well!!!
I am sadly lapsed drink-wise and will be kicked off this bus if i don't start making more of an effort. But with a sleepover with Annie looming, it's not going to be this weekend!!

Happy 18th to your DC thurso - a big day for you both!

MIFLAW - have a lovely week off Smile xx

Right, I'm outta here. Sorry to post and run but the demon is stiring tonight and I am close to giving in because my pain levels are hitting the roof!

Can't get the local hospital to stitch my mouth back up and I'm not spending Friday night at the next A&E.

So, warm bath, more meds and an early night for this little Mouse.

Hope you are all okay this evening....

Where's venus, WasOnce, Silver and others? Obrigada?

Be back tomorrow Brave Babes xx

venusandmars · 06/05/2011 22:29

I'm here.

As someone else put it, real life gets in the way sometimes. I've been reading posts whenever I can (really feel the need to keep up to date with everyone) but have not been anywhere where I can post more than a few words.

Evening all, Can't believe this is the second friday in a row that I've sat in and haven't touched a drop. My weekend used to start on a thursday!!

We've had some really weird & wonderful storms here tonight, the lightning was pink, purple & orange - some of it was silent lightning, and some forked horizontally across the sky instead of streaking downwards.

Me and dd watched it for ages, it was AWESOME!!!

Off to bed now really tired, haven't read back properly - will catch up in the morning xx
