Hello,

I'm Mouse, well, I am usually!

Welcome to the Brave Babes Bus. Smile

This is a journey of sobriety, started almost a year ago by the wonderful jesuswhatnext. So why not come aboard and find a seat. There's heaps of support on here whether you are sober, drinking or somewhere in the middle.

And, for those of you who want a bit of history, here are the Previous Threads

Oh god, they were all 'Primary Purpose' meetings too Shock

MIFLAW · 06/05/2011 13:49

The bastards.

I can't say if AA is for you, only that it is for me.

But you wouldn't catch me dead in a Primary Purpose meeting. The AA I know is about acceptance and mutual aid, not about teacher-pupil set-ups and "my way or the high way".

Mouseface · 06/05/2011 13:50

Here we go again Hmm

IsinDe - totally great post, you too MIFLAW. Your last post really makes sense to me.

Chattex - are you Creambarleg? You do seem to have the same 'MO' as it were.

Changeling - a job in Oz?! How fantastic. Also, the reasons you give for stopping going to AA, are the reasons that I don't feel that it's for me. I have no expereince btw, but find the way that I handle drinking now, works for me.

That may change and over time, I'll be open to suggestions.

changelingforthis · 06/05/2011 13:51

Oh my goodness - I was well duped! Just been on aacultwatch and it's all falling into place - I too, was told that I would have a 'spiritual experience in one weekend' that I would get through all 12 steps over that weekend and the meetings I was attending are listed on the site Shock. Blimey. I think I need to move!

Mouseface · 06/05/2011 13:52

Oh, and I should add that this ---> Hmm was to the AA bashing that is going on. Again.

MIFLAW · 06/05/2011 13:53

Changeling

not sure where you are but I can confirm that, even in Dorset, there are some normal AA meetings - I know, because I've been to them. And in London, the majority of meetings are normal and accpeting of all.

changelingforthis · 06/05/2011 13:59

Sorry Mouseface not meaning to bash really I'm not, I obviously just chose the wrong meetings. MIF, I mean the ones i was going to (several) were mentioned Come to think of it, I was also discouraged from going to any others than the ones that were mentioned on aacultwatch, I will check out the others..
Hope I haven't upset or annoyed anyone Sad

MIFLAW · 06/05/2011 14:02

I think Mouse meant Chattex was bashing AA, not you.

No upset here - I really don't mind whether people go to AA or not, as long as they do find something that works for them. I just didn't want you (or anyone else) to turn away from AA because of a misapprehension or false impression because you might find that the real thing (i.e. not the freaks in Primary Purpose) could help. Or you might not; but at least you'll have all the facts.

Mouseface · 06/05/2011 14:06

Changeling - not you my lovely, not you at all. I meant Chattex as the wise manMIF says. Smile

Mouseface · 06/05/2011 14:07

See? Random bolding here as per Grin

I've just finished room isindie I was a bit disappointed to be honest :s

I've just ordered one day by david nicholls and into the darkest corner by elizabeth haynes. They both have good reviews, I can't wait for them to get here - I get all excited over new books, wish I had a kindle!!!

changelingforthis · 06/05/2011 14:14

Blimey I wish I'd found a meeting like that at the start - I was totally 'lovebombed' at my first 'A Vision for you' meeting. I got 10 phone numbers straight away! And the emphasis really was 'do steps, read book, do programme or no cure' I was told to get a sponsor immediately so just did as i was told (well brought up - me!)

Ho Hum. Right had a very lazy day so far, even had a 'nap' earlier, must be my age - going to the gym tonight with kids and dh, kids have a 'club night' and we go swimming and drink coffee (obviously not at the same time Blush) Grin my kind of evening!

Have a good rest of day all

changelingforthis · 06/05/2011 14:15

I've got a kindle - it's brilliant!

extreme Twitchers.....conjures up some poor souls with St Vitus Dance Grin

I am a Kindle hater - they look ugly and don't feel nice like books. And i HATE the feckin advert on TV for them, with the wifie riding her bike with the Kindle in the basket at the front. It's not as if she's using the bloody thing in that situation, and as book can go in a basket too

IsinDe??? I'm confused. The point I was making was that too, why bash any form of help? Sorry if you thought I was cross with you. Something I could never be! Grin

I totally agree that any form of help can work, if you want to give it a try. What works for one may not work for another but like you, I'd hate to find out a lurker/poster hasn't tried to get help because of a ignorant point of view on here. Smile

That advert is ridiculous, you wouldn't ride your bike with your kindle in it like, honestly what nonsense - or have it perched casually on a running machine. I do love mine too though and can't wait till we go on holiday so i can just 'pop it in' rather than lugging the library to Norfolk Grin

lovecorrie · 06/05/2011 15:56

gone back to my original mn name - no longer a 'changeling' Did that as i was ashamed of my drinking, but sod it! hello from the 'real me' Grin

qo · 06/05/2011 15:58

the real beauty of a kindle would be not having to wait for new books to arrive, such as now when I've just finished one would be nice to start on the next right away instead of having to wait for amazon to deliver!!

Isindie, thanks for asking I'm doing ok, not great, but ok. managing to stay off the drink without too much effort (I really dont want to drink) but still having little tiny miniscule wobbles at times.
I'm finding the loneliness quite hard to bear at the moment and still haven't been out of the house in almost 2 weeks, I've only bothered getting dressed once and that was yesterday. I'm hoping in a bit of time, things will all come back together.

At least I have got the house straightened out and teh garden semi-sorted, it's still a long way from being a lovely garden but much much better than it was. Next job will be decorating argghhhhhh!!!
