where does one go to meet men?

just had a lovely day/night out with my friends. One, who is not single, turned to me and said "dont worry, there is someone out there for everyone" oh, really? where do 40+ blokes with their own teeth (not bothered about hair) hang out then? cos all I saw today was lots of twentysomethings out for the football.

Do NOT go on dating sites. It's just awful. Wait till you meet someone real and in the meantime try to forget about men and enjoy your life.

In the middle of London? Ingrid, I dont think about them often enough tbh. Only when it comes up in conversation like it did last night. I spend so much time at work I hardly have time to meet up with my family.

I cant/wont do the internet thing, its just not for me.

I'm not dating either and precious little time to, but the online thing is hideous so you're spot on not to go there.

there are actually some sailing clubs in london. many others that londoners go to quite often outside the capital at weekends.

Ive always had more success with friend's of friends. That what we should all do on here, nominate one person we know who is single and not a weirdo! It could be perfect!1 So, who's got a brother over 37 then?

I think friends of friends is definitely the way to go. When I was single I wasn't particularly into clubbing so concentrated on making as many new friends as possible, and putting lots of effort into cultivating those friendships. Every friend opens up the possibility of nice, available brothers and friends of theirs, and also invites to nights out. Then hopefully you 'randomly' meet Mr Perfect rather than having to go trawling on the internet.

I have got a divorced friend with two children, she has a good job and is very sweet. She likes ginger hair.

Supermarkets at night. Honestly, whenever I nip out to ours any time from about 8 or 9 onwards, there always seem to be men wandering up and down the aisles trying to get chatting & being all flirty. Ooh if I were single......

Well I wouldn't like to divulge where my local is Grin but I would imagine any supermarket at night would do. I've been chatted up in Asda and Sainsburys more than anywhere else I go for some reason Grin.

I have the loveliest BIL.

He is 50 (too old?) and single. His daughter is away at Uni.

He is kind, generous, thoughtful, wonderful with children, hard working, moral, law-abiding, fun-loving, intelligent ..... but the problem?

I'm afraid he is really not attractive at all. He is also very short (5 foot 3). He has a bad skin condition and is quite bald.

But he is one of the loveliest people I have ever met. It's so unfair that he's on his own ....

I have tried to flog my brother here for ages! he is on a dating site- Muddy Matches lives NE! he is lovely. But he doesn't want children Sad

This is classic advice- don't go looking for a man- go out and do things you enjoy and men will be there too! Join clubs, societies, classes, walks, singles holidays (Exodus etc not 18-30) and you will meet other people, who will know other people.

You can also ( contradicts her self) use internet sites but as part of the bigger picture of socialising- Not instead of.

My friend met her fiancee whilst volunteering to plant trees! Lovely he is too.

{she's 39 he's 41) Nothing wrong with either of them.

I agree with the clubs/societies thing, internet dating as one poster says, is fine as long as you're not obsessively checking your inbox on a daily basis. Even an evening class if it's possible (languages etc..)

I'm 49 (almost 50:() and think that it's just gonna be me n the dog (which incidentally, I haven't got yet!) sometimes I get down about it other days I think f**k it and go about my business...

Ingrid...sailing, don't you have to be posh and/or rich? I've booked a sailing day out in June cos I fancied it, nothing to do with meeting a fella, I'm not posh or rich, just wanna have fun Grin

Internet date sites.
I met my DP on one and he is the most kind, caring, conciderate, man i have met. At first I thought he was boring but it takes a while to get to know the real person, so give it time.

Some folk think date sites are awful, but at least you can meet someone who has the same interests and views on life and most times you meet they are sober, unlike in a night club where they are all hammered !
