Hello and a Happy New Year!

I'm Mouse, one of the passengers on this wonderful journey to sobriety! Smile

We are a real mixed bunch of people, all trying to control or give up the booze - ONE DAY AT A TIME.

Come meet the others.........

And here are the previous threads, the journeys so far

Zany - WARNING BAD LANGUAGE ALERT! - what an utter twat. I was hoping he was up to his eyes in debt.

Buggeration. So sorry he's like this. How shit. Was he always like this? Or is this because he has sour grapes IYSWIM? Grin

Tackle one thing at a time??? Me??? Ha! Wish I was that sensible Zany Hmm

Dh avoiding bathtime is still making me giggle Grin

Had a wobble earlier, really fancied a large glass of wine still do so trying to distract myself.

Rubyredlips · 14/01/2011 20:12

Sorry Thurso realised that my question might have been a bit intrusive Blush. I sometimes forget that we're not all just mates sat in a pub cafe having a catch up BlushBlush. Enjoy Mr Ripley, don't remember it being scary but then I've got a bad memory Wink

Zany I agree with Mouse your Dh is a swine. Bloody arse.

dementedma · 14/01/2011 20:14

Anon - "Toast" could have been about DS. The DDs - much older - watched it and both said "OMG that's just like J" he's a funny kid!
DD outdid him in the baking stakes with a fabulous coffee and walnut gateau! She also bought me a huge slab of handmade chocolate from Hotel Chocolat and a voucher for a Swedish neck and back massage. RESULT!!! Except I'll end up frickin enormous Grin
Not drinking and don't even want to - first sober birthday in many a long year!

Mouseface · 14/01/2011 20:39

Hey Ma

I love Hotel Chocolat. Yum! I could actually live in there shops Grin

I watched Toast aswell. I loved it. Not a huge fan of Nigel Slatter's food but I hoped the programme did his book justice, which by all accounts, it was very like.

I hate watching something that forgets all about the book if it was written beforehand.

I read The Time Traveller's Wife. I cried buckets so I know that the film will upset me. Even if it's bad, I'll be upset about the baby scenes.

Like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, the rape scenes in the film are very graphic. But because I've read the book, I wanted to see the film.

My best friend advised strongly against it. Sad

Luckily.

Right bird - where are you? It's well past drink o'clock, are you going to chink with me? I have just poured a glass of Sav Blanc.

We have the worlds smallest wine glasses in this house these days. We get 6 glasses out of one bottle Shock

We used to get four Blush

Hi all,

Rubyred entirely my fault, I shouldn't have posted that info if I didn't want anyone to ask about it, just a bit wired today Smile. I find an awful lot of things scary, have never seen a horror film!

"Toast" the book is very dark, I didn't watch it, as I couldn't bear how he felt as a child (blinkers on!)

Now, "Chocolat" is a real feel good book!

Right, off to Jude Law (sigh).

Mouseface · 14/01/2011 21:02

See I loved 'Chocolat' too. Smile

OP posts:
dementedma · 14/01/2011 21:10

Toast was an excellent book but it made me cry in parts. My father had similarities to Nigel Slater's and it brought back some unpleasant memories.
However, that was then and this is now - onwards and upwards.
DS - he of the delightful baking - has farted loud, long and gloriously and when I said "What do you say?", he replied dreamily "That was nice!"

Mouseface · 14/01/2011 21:15

Ahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaa Ma - brilliant.

DD said to me last night, 'mum, can I have some of my chocolate please?'

'But you've had some today'

'Mum, it's Cadbury's, it's made with a glass and a half of milk and has cocoa beans in, one of my five a day'

I had to arf at the genius in that. Grin

L XXXXXXXXX

Zanywany · 15/01/2011 00:41

Well tonight was the night I was going to 'allow' myself to have a few drinks but I have amazed surprised myself that I havn't had much to drink [hmmm]

Ma if my DD farts and I say to her 'what do you say' her reply is usually 'that was me'!!

A bit Confused that 2 days ago I had 3 offers of dates on the cards and yet they have all disappeared now.

Anyway had a lovely night with my friend, he is lovely to cuddle up to to watch a movie and yet knows there is just friendship there :-)

venusandmarzipan · 15/01/2011 10:12

Hey zany you've had a very different week this week, and your posts sound more positive. Hope you have a good weekend.

Spamspamspam · 15/01/2011 11:06

Morning ladies :)

Guess what I did last night? I went to the pub and had two tonic waters Grin

We went early about sixish which is something we usually do on a Friday night, we only stayed an hour but it did make me feel more normal than hibernating away at home not seeing anyone, I was getting cabin fever a bit! Hubby didn't find it so easy, but we got through okay and had a nice time.

Day 14 for me and I WILL NOT BE DRINKING TODAY.

Also I only had half a sleeping tablet last night as although it is doing the trick by getting me off to sleep I am waking up really groggy and "hungover" feeling. Felt much better today.

Onwards and upwards!

jesuswhatnext · 15/01/2011 12:01

spam!!, that sounds fantastic progress - i know that going to the pub can be really hard, and tbh, i didnt go willingly for quite some time, now however, i find it much easier, i can have a good time and a laugh without a drink (thats not to say that i dont have the odd resentful moment!), but it does get easier with time!

today i am sorting out clothes, dd has found a place that buys designer gear so im having an almighty clear out and hopefully making myself a few quid! Grin, just the job for january! (what i must not do is spend it all in the same shop! Confused)

Mouseface · 15/01/2011 12:06

Afternoon.

Spam - get you and your rock 'n' roll lifestyle Grin

Well done on going into a pub and not drinking. I struggle with that one still so try to avoid them at all costs.

I'd say that if you can stick to half a sleeping tablet for a few more nights and then none, your body will be ready to relax on it's own and sleep will come naturally again.

WELL DONE on 14 days! Smile

Zany - bless you. Sorry your dates have vanished. Not meant to be maybe?

Cooking dinner later and sharing a bottle of fizz. Had 2 glasses of Sav Blanc last night but felt ready to stop after them.

It's funny but all of a sudden, the desire to get wasted has gone. The appeal to drink and drink and drink just isn't there anymore.

I feel so much better knowing that if I have a drink, I will stop after the second glass.

Not that I do that every night, did over Christmas but not since.

This weekend is different. Smile

DH and DD are baking cakes later, YUM!

How are we all?

Anonymousbird · 15/01/2011 13:08

Hello.

Well, sorry Mouse, I wasn't online, but I did "chink" somewhere else, somewhere around 8.15!!!

Had some wine last night, not all that much. DH had more than me. Woke this morning with a bit of a bleurgh feeling, but I think that is more to do with my sinuses than the wine!! Damned cold, been a week now, so all this no drinking hasn't actually left me feeling bright and springy in the mornings as I wake up with a sinus headache.. Hey ho.

I enjoyed the wine, but didn't feel the need to guzzle, which after almost a week off, I was quite pleased with! Actually to start with the wine tasted strange, like my taste buds had forgotten..

Not sure if I will have wine tonight or not yet. Curry for dinner, so maybe a couple of small (weak) lagers.... busy day tomorrow, so need to absolutely not get carried away and keep it all on track..

Spamspamspam · 15/01/2011 13:45

Mouse and Anonymous, Congratulations! To me it is a massive achievement to just have a couple and not feel the need to get wasted or to guzzle, I hope I can achieve that someday, to me I think it will be harder to do that than not have any...I want to be able to control my drinking again, I allways used to in my twenties and early thirties but I seem to just drink it out of habit now. I am hoping that this period of abstinence can make me go back to the place where I could just have a couple and leave it at that - we shall see Hmm

Zanywany · 15/01/2011 13:58

Hi everyone.

Well done on drinking tonics in the pub Spam not easy.

Mouse hope the desire to not get wasted continues, how is Nemo today.

Unfortunately I woke at 4 am with a bad headache, not from drinking too much this time though. At least Anon when your cold has finally gone you will feel even better than before.

Had to see my grumpy XH at my son's football match this morning, at least his team won, treats for him whenhe gets home (son not XH Grin

Got to go as I am off out on a DATE!!!

Mouseface · 15/01/2011 14:30

Zany - he's okay today, I'm still ill but hey ho Smile

ENJOY YOUR DATE! x

OP posts:
dementedma · 15/01/2011 15:19

hey all. have £37 to last until Child Ben on January 23rd.DH depressed and gone back to bed. That helps! Got enough food more or less if I'm creative but not enough for petrol to get us to work next week.
Seriously beginning to wonder if its worth going on.............

Mouseface · 15/01/2011 16:09

Ma

Talk to me.

What can I do to help you? Smile

OP posts:
Zanywany · 15/01/2011 17:12

Ma any way you can put essentials on credit card until then, not ideal I know. 23rd is only 8 days away. Do your DC's have school dinners? any bills to pay before 23rd?

How are you doing as it seems as though the main bulk of the worrying is in your shoulders.

Mouseface · 15/01/2011 17:19

I though you were on a date? Grin

What time are you off Zany? Good luck with this one Smile x

OP posts:
Zanywany · 15/01/2011 18:06

It was an afternoon date for a quick coffee/beer. He was lovely but doesn't do it for me if you know what I mean. Shame as he had me in stich's laughing but just didn't fancy him..Oh well back to the drawing board Grin
