Hello and a Happy New Year!

I'm Mouse, one of the passengers on this wonderful journey to sobriety! Smile

We are a real mixed bunch of people, all trying to control or give up the booze - ONE DAY AT A TIME.

Come meet the others.........

And here are the previous threads, the journeys so far

desire - you know when you have a really bad hangover?

If you times that by about a gazzzzzillion, then add snot, no voice, hacking cough, shivers and a poorly toddler, DH and now DD.......

That's how I feel. Grin

Plus my hips/pelvis are super sore at the moment. Done too much and not enough rest.

Sorry, moany arse today!

Well, I now have loads of juice, and several super looking cordials and a large bag of ice plus oodles of sparkling water...

The only thing that stopped me drinking dead was being pregnant. Even before I knew i was pregnant first time, I simply heaved at the sight of a glass of wine. That carried on for most of the first trimester. Handy really, as couldn't even be in the same room as the stuff, let alone want to drink it!

Unfortunately, no more pregnancies on the horizon, so it's just sheer will power and some common sense that will need to prevail this time.

Luckily, DH is completely on board too. All wine and beer has been consigned to the garage. Nothing in the fridge.

Also, am skint after a rather expensive Christmas so this should help the housekeeping budget no end.

Can you see what I am doing here??? Talking myself into this, that I CAN do it??!?!?! Oh yes, I bloody well can!

Right. Thanks ladies. I'll be back tomorrow. Smile

munkymaz · 10/01/2011 16:26

Anon Go for it girl, sounds like you have a plan......you CAN do it.

Mouseface · 10/01/2011 16:32

Anon - YOU CAN DO IT!

If you really, really want to, you can do it.

By the sounds of it you do so go for it. Smile

Report back on your first cranberry, lime and soda! Without wanting to sound like Gavin and Stacey, it's lush, it is.

Zanywany · 10/01/2011 17:49

Back from the shops with non alcoholic beer and lits of fizzy drinks. Had a bit of a wobble earlier but on track for day 2 now

jesuswhatnext · 10/01/2011 19:02

Scootergrrrl · 10/01/2011 19:05

About to hit my wobble time - coming down to a quiet house when all three children are finally in bed.

Hope you feel better in the morning jwn

munkymaz · 10/01/2011 19:19

Scooter Go make yourself a nice refreshing juice.....or a lovely cup of tea Smile

venusandmarzipan · 10/01/2011 19:33

Scooter is there anything you can do to keep your hands busy? Make lunch for tomorrow, do some ironing, write a best seller, knitting? And keep your brain busy - read a book, do a crossword, do a sudoko, do an online jigsaw puzzle....

Keep yourself well topped up with liquids, and prepare a little tiny snack to have just before bed (apparently it helps you sleep through the 3am wakening as your blood sugar level is more stable)

Mouseface · 10/01/2011 20:09

Hey venus

Hope you are okay. I didn't know that about the 3am thing. That was always my waking point in the early days.

Now it's just Nemo that wakes me! Grin

Scootergrrrl · 10/01/2011 20:14

Did it! Am eating dinner now with my cranberry, lime and soda to hand. I didn't know about the 3am thing either. Like mouse, I will probably be awake anyway with a small person!

notevenamousie · 10/01/2011 20:20

Hi everyone,
Well done Scooter, just keep hanging in there.
I'm shattered, again. Work was ok, but I do wish DD would sleep a bit better.

Day 8 over and done with. It is getting a bit easier, I think. One day at a time, though.

munkymaz · 10/01/2011 21:16

Cranberry, lime & soda sounds good, may have to give that a try. Apple, mango & soda for me.......and a bagfull handful of mini eggs Grin

noteven well done on Day 8,as you say, one day at a time.

Mouseface · 10/01/2011 21:17

Well done Scooter Smile

Well, taking myself of to my death bed Grin

Be Brave Babes and keep going.

See you all tomorrow xx

Hi all. I've written a couple of messages and they have disappeared so hope this works.

Anonymousbird · 11/01/2011 06:25

Crikey, well I got through the evening. Elderflower was my drink of choice last night! Will build up to cranberry and lime soon....

BUT OH MY GOD I woke at exactly 3am and have not been back to sleep since (cold and cough has not helped with general feeling of lousiness)

How long does the disturbed sleep last? DH seems to think 3-4 days.

Any other experience on that?

Rubyredlips · 11/01/2011 07:17

Good Morning all.
Anon well done on getting through the evening with eldeflower Smile
I don't know about the 3am wake up thing but someone will be around shortly with advice. I think Venus said to have a snack before bed to help with blood sugar dropping at 3am.

I'm just having 5 mins before the craziness of the day starts.

Hope all the babes had good evenings and slept well. Mouse and JWN hope you're feeling much better today.

munkymaz · 11/01/2011 08:25

Anon I've found that Day 4 or Day 5 usually brings a good night's sleep.

That 3am thing is a killer isn't it........makes you feel like necking a few glasses of vino to help........but ultimately that is counterproductive.

Well done and Keep Going!Smile

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 11/01/2011 08:38

Morning ladies,
Wasindie and Milflaw, I hope your babies gave you some sleep Smile.

Things not so great here, so didn't post yesterday as felt very down.

DH still not very well, but said this morning (early hours) that he doesn't want to go back to the doctor's, and that if he talks it all through with me, and shares with people at work, then he will get over it Hmm.

The thing is I don't think it is a state of mind that one can shake oneself out of. It is an illness, or imbalance in the brain, that deserves treatment, no matter how mild, or severe. I have sent my usual uplifting, and hopefully supportive email for him to read when he get's in to work, and he says that it helps with his day, so that's something.

Oh well, I am fortunate in so many ways, and still not drinking, so on we go.

Mouse and JWN I hope you both feel a bit better today.
xxx

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 11/01/2011 08:40

Sorry, just seen my msg posted, and it sounds really miserable, I'm ok, really, and have so many things to be thankful for. Sorry.

Have lovely days everyone.
Speak later.

venusandmarzipan · 11/01/2011 09:45

Hi thurso never any need to apologise for posts on here. You've got a lot to deal with and if it helps to offload on here, then go right ahead.

My dp has never suffered from depression, but a couple of years ago he was in a job situation that was really bad for him. He hated going to work, didn't want to get up in the morning and when he came home in the evening he either sat sighing at the futility of his situation or being angry at his boss. I don't think he had any idea of the impact that it had on me, or the toll that it took to support and encourage him day after day.

Fortunately things changed for him at work, but I understand some of what you feel, thurso and I bet you're doing a great job to help him.

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 11/01/2011 10:21

Venus
Thank you so much for that, your message was really good to read, especially that Dh doesn't really know of the impact on me, trying to keep it all together, with a smile.

Some while ago, I bought "I had a black dog", and "living with a black dog" by Matthew Johnstone, I don't know if anyone else has read it, but so much of what is in there rings a bell.

Anyway, off to take DC1 to the station, to go back to uni now Sad. Lots to do later though, to keep my mind off things.

Thanks again Venus
