Hello and a Happy New Year!

I'm Mouse, one of the passengers on this wonderful journey to sobriety! Smile

We are a real mixed bunch of people, all trying to control or give up the booze - ONE DAY AT A TIME.

Come meet the others.........

And here are the previous threads, the journeys so far

Morning Zany, well done on no alcohol yesterday and planning ahead for this evening. How are you feeling today?

MIFLAW · 10/01/2011 10:46

Scrumpet - no need to see less of your friends.

Just start doing it in Caffee Nero instead of the Red Lion.

Anonymousbird · 10/01/2011 10:52

Zany - what drinks are you going to buy??? I need ideas!

jesuswhatnext · 10/01/2011 10:56

morning all!, feeling a bit pants here, still shaky but at least the temprature has stayed down - im off to a meeting at lunch time, a stroll in the air will do me good, a nice sit down and a cup of tea and a good catch up at the meeting sounds nice, then back home for a rest (see venus, i can do as im told! Grin)

so anyway MIF, hows the baby and mrs mif doing?

jesuswhatnext · 10/01/2011 10:59

anon - i like red drinks, so, cranberry and raspberry with tonic or soda, blackcurrent cordial and tonic is nice, bottle green do several differant types of cordial, i ususally mix with san pelligreno (sp?) or soda or tonic - i like to have drinks ready chilled in the fridge, nothing worse than a lukewarm N&T! (thats Nothing and Tonic btw, just a slice of lemon or lime!)

jesuswhatnext · 10/01/2011 11:04

btw, the first time i get chicken shit on me choos everyone will know about it! Grin

wanders off muttering about the state of the bus! Grin

Scootergrrrl · 10/01/2011 11:07

Shall I leave the squawky baby at home? He does so like store porridge in his hamster cheeks then raspberry-blow it at anyone daft enough to get near him Grin

Zanywany · 10/01/2011 11:11

Make sure you listen to Venus JWN as we don't want you overdoing it and getting poorly again.

Think I'm going to get a selection of fruit juices Anon and some tonic & soda water to mix with it. Think I'll get some non alcoholic beer too.

Very true MIFLAW and I should try practising it in front of the mirror.

Feel more positive today although feeling a bit lonely to be honest. Found out my Uncle who I adore has a shadow on his lung to he is going for more tests this week, his Doctor doesn't think it is anything but I am really worried. It's times like this when I wish I had someone in my life to give me a hug and tell me they will be there for me. I shouldn't moan though as I have some brilliant friends.

How is Nemo doing today Mouse

Mouseface · 10/01/2011 11:16

Morning Brave Babes

I'm germ filled here, which means Nemo will get it too.

Cough, temp, shaky, achey and cold in my bones. Brrr.

Hello new Babes Smile

Tropicana pomegranate, apple and raspberry, on offer at Tesco, which I mix with a splash of diet lemonade.

Fresh orange and soda/tonic/leomande is nice too, in a tall glass with loads of ice.

I've lost my voice to, much to DH's delight! Grin

venusandmarzipan · 10/01/2011 11:25

Well done zany you're doing the right stuff.

I like apple juice and soda with ice cubes. I like grapejuice and elderflower (tesco finest) - always have a bottle in the fridge. I like all these weirdy fruit teas (peppermint, blackberry and nettle, cherry and cinnamon) and I like swiss boullion powder in hot water (like chicken noodle soup but without the chicken and without the noodles Grin)

MIFLAW hope things are going very sweetly with the new baby girl.

Anonymousbird · 10/01/2011 11:48

Thanks for all these great ideas. Off to Tesco later, so will check out the soft drinks aisle Blush

I am also full of germs so actually the thought of all these luscious long fizzy concoctions is utterly wonderful, cleanse and vitamin blast from within.

desiretochange · 10/01/2011 12:21

Might just check out some of the selection of drinks myself, tend to be very boring in my choices, water, water or water:)

BafanatheSober · 10/01/2011 12:39

I think that it is really important to have nice things to drink (it definately is to me). Otherwise you feel like you are depriving yourself, and that then feels like you are punishing yourself, and then alcohol becomes a reward. I definately needed to break that cycle in my head.

I enjoy the process of making myself a drink, although now it is non-alcoholic!! It makes me feel like a grownup (at 37).

Day 4 of stopped smoking and 6.5 weeks since I last had a drink.

Hope all is going well out there in BB land.
Today - regardless of how rubbish it is (and there is lots of rubbish going on) I CHOOSE NOT TO DRINK.

Anonymousbird · 10/01/2011 12:51

OO, it's nice on this bus!

I am not intending to be booze free completely, just need to break a bit of a cycle. Wine on a night out, or at the weekend will still be on the agenda, but want to cut it out on weekdays.

desiretochange · 10/01/2011 12:55

You gone cold turkey on the cigarettes Bafana? Need to quit smoking myself but one thing at a time Wink

Scootergrrrl · 10/01/2011 13:00

I'm with you on the cutting back Anon It became a very bad habit to pour a glass of wine as soon as the children were in bed and then to have a couple more during the evening. I'd still like to have a couple at weekends but stop entirely in the week. Are we still ok to jump aboard?

Rubyredlips · 10/01/2011 13:18

Welcome Scoot and Anon. Nice to 'meet' you both. Of course you can join. I joined because I wanted to control my drinking and so far it is going well but I am still taking it a day at a time. I have stopped drinking completely for January though and I'm on a diet. Must be mad! Grin

desiretochange · 10/01/2011 14:29

Hi Ruby:) how are you today?

munkymaz · 10/01/2011 14:34

Afternoon Brave Babes,

Just checking in after being poleaxed by a bout of flu. Back at work today and not feeling too bad!

Day 11 here and all is well so far. Not really had any wobbles (but been too ill to contemplate alchol really). DH poured me a glass of wine on Sat, just one smell was enough to make me want to vomit (it was Hock though!! bleughh! maybe a new tactic......buy the shittest wine you can find Grin) Needless to say, I didn't drink it!

Well done to everyone who is finding the strength to abstain, good going all of you. Chin up to those who are still struggling. All I can say is don't give up, each day is a new one.

Hello to all the newbies Smile
You're in the right place whether it's for a rant, top tips, helpful advice, a shoulder to cry on or a kick up the arse if you need it. This thread has helped me so much, it's been an age since I have gone without a daily bottle drink (more than a week is unheard of!). I hope you all find what you need to achieve peace of mind.

desiretochange · 10/01/2011 14:50

Hi Munky, like you I wasn't well at start of year (less than a fortnight ago:)) and alcohol didn't appeal to me and thankfully it still has no real appeal.
Red wine has been my drink of choice for the last few years but strangely enough I have absolutely no desire for a glass of red wine (or a bottle) and funnily enough I think the main reason for this is that on Christmas Day when I had no water and no heating the red wine, instead of being at room temperature, was soooooo cold that I couldn't drink it all and everytime I picture myself having a glass of red wine all I can taste is that cold bottle Christmas Day which tasted absolutely vile!

munkymaz · 10/01/2011 15:43

Hi Desire bleughh x2 to cold red wine!!

Putting poorliness aside, I honestly haven't had any craving to drink at all, I'm hoping the switch in my brain has finally been flicked and I won't feel the need any time soon Hmm, god knows I've been planning this long enough!
However, I am now back in the old routine and am aware that old habits die hard. My main downfall is the old 'just got to nip to the shop for wine something on the way home' tactic, so easy to snaffle a bottle along with the pint of milk, doubly so as the red wine is near the tills! My plan to try and break this habit is ......dont' go to the shop ta!da! Grin I've made sure I have everything we need for the week, so picking something up for tea is no longer an excuse. If it's milk or bread, there are a couple of other shops I can use that don't sell alcohol, anyway, we shall see but for today, I will not be drinking Smile

Mouseface · 10/01/2011 15:47

Such wonderfully positive posts!

Well Done Brave Baves Smile
