All 'borrows' cost money for a good cause!

My personal favourite on this thread is 'deep fried dog shite' for a hangover! Grin

desire - are you on day 5? How are you sleeping now?

RedDevilMoomin · 04/11/2010 16:11

Oh God, why can't it be 5pm already! So, so tired I feel like I am hallucinating...

desiretochange · 04/11/2010 16:15

Going to have to be a euro Mouse, other side of the water here:):) Am on Day 5 and sleep is improving slightly, am tired in the evenings but finding it hard to drop off.
Red almost there, only another 45 mins to go, I have an hour and 15 mins left:(

Mousefawkes · 04/11/2010 16:26

desire I thought you were on day 5. See how you go tonight. If you can't drop off, try a sleep aid if you don't mind using them. Something herbal is better than synthetic.

Red not that long to go now. Get yourself home and snuggled up for the night. xx

desiretochange · 04/11/2010 16:28

Think it's Silver who talks about Nytol . . any good?

Mousefawkes · 04/11/2010 16:49

It is Silver the drug dealer Grin

I think that they are all pretty similar but yeah, I find that they take the edge off and help you to relax. I use Natrasleep, it has valerian in it.

I normally take them about half an hour before bed, pjs on, and then get into bed and read until I drop off.

I guess it's also about retraining your body to fall asleep without passing out drunk.

You'll get there xx

RedDevilMoomin · 04/11/2010 16:52

Nearly home time! Hurrah! I hope that you all nice evenings x

witchetychicky · 04/11/2010 16:54

desire I guess everyone responds differently to medication, over the counter or otherwise. When my insomnia was off the scale I used Nytol and found it pretty good, but I felt really zonked in the morning. I am really sensitive to any meds though. I have since discovered Sindol (syndol?).
It's a pain killer for tension headaches - knocks me out a treat, with no fuzzy feeling the next day.

Like anything, I'm sure it's not good to take too regularly, but once every so often really saved me.
Luckily I am sleeping reasonably well now Smile

desiretochange · 04/11/2010 17:08

Best place to check out sleeping tablets . . chemist or health shop??

witchetychicky · 04/11/2010 17:55

I find my pharmacist really helpful - I think it depends what kind of health shop it is...some of the chain ones have people working in them that know very little about the products that they sell, but I'm sure they are not all like that.

Have you tried the Paul McKenna book and CD? I first got it a while back and found the CD ok for relaxation, but didn't really do anything to keep me from waking at 1am...in hindsight that's because I wasn't following one of the first basic rules....cut out alchohol.

Mousefawkes · 04/11/2010 17:57

desire - anywhere to be fair, supermarkets, Wilkinson's, Boots stock as many as chemists these days. Some more. Health shops will have 'sleepy teas' if you'd rather have a drink before bed.

BE WARNED - Valarian tea tastes vile so you need to bye a flavoured tea to blend it with or a splash of Ribena needs to be added.

I'd suggest a herbal tablet over a synthetic one to start with.

Silver66 · 04/11/2010 18:00

Shock - Mouse how could you imply such a thing!! NYTOL Herbal works for me - and the key ingerdient is valerian as Moose said - I use the off the shelf ones from chemist or supermarket - they also sell a type of Nytol that you have to ask the chemist for (DP bought some for me, after much haggling with chemist, by mistake - ddurr men - say no more) and I have found that those ones leave me v tired the next day and ready to drop by about 4.00pm, and fuzzy in the morning. I think the most important ingredient with herbal sleeping tablets is valerian so just read the label and compare the % - also you don't need to take two as they recommend - one might work for you.

Grin xxx

Mousefawkes · 04/11/2010 18:02

'buy' not bye! Grin

Mousefawkes · 04/11/2010 18:04

Sliver - call me Moose again and I'll erm, think of something wicked to do to you!! Grin

Have you been at work today BTW?

Silver66 · 04/11/2010 18:06

and as Witchety suggests some calming music - for some reason Garden Centres always seem to sell them - chill out or relaxation music always helps me to drop off - rather than just lying there mulling things over - or get a meditation CD with instructions and do the relaxation exersises.......

Grin
witchetychicky · 04/11/2010 18:07

As I'm north of the border you are always moose to me anyway! Grin

Silver66 · 04/11/2010 18:08

so what exactly will you do Moose? eh eh eh

diabolik · 04/11/2010 18:23
  • hey the local drug dealer Silver turned up Grin
how are u Slver
Silver66 · 04/11/2010 18:23

Dipso - have only just had chance to read back on thread - you sound to me like you need a medical de-tox on librium - it's a course of about a week to 10 days gradually reducing to nothing. They are basically tranquillisers that take the edge off withdrawal and you should be monitored daily for the first few days by a nurse or member of local alcohol support unit - I have done it Blush several times and have found not drinking a breeze while on the tablets - then when you have a clear head and 10 days under your belt it is up to you to stay sober. It will give you a headstart and get you over the first hurdles - you will need support from someone while you take them as may not be able to drive etc. Ask your GP to refer you to your local Community Alcohol Team and they will take it from there - sometimes it helps to treat this as an illness (which it is) , as though it were flu or something - I don't know but I think maybe you need someone else (GP, CAT team) to take control at the moment, so that you can take the time to recover Smile xxx

diabolik · 04/11/2010 18:23

urgg that didnt work lol

test

Silver66 · 04/11/2010 18:26

am good thanks Diabolik - - then looks at last post to Dipso and re-thinks mmmmh - how are you feeling lovely boy - got all that shit out of your system yet??? Shock xxx

diabolik · 04/11/2010 18:28

lot better now getting my act back together

Silver66 · 04/11/2010 18:29

testing too

Dipso · 04/11/2010 18:34

Mouse, I will make a list, thanks. Silver as I'm not physically dependent on alcohol I wouldn't qualify for a detox. If I was I'd be having one like a shot! Anyway, my lovely GP has prescribed Acamprosate (Campral) which is supposed to stop cravings. She spoke highly of it :) I have just taken the first tablet and am cautiously optimistic.

Still really hungover from yesterday so am aiming for an early night after catching up on Mad Men which I forgot to watch last night because I was too pissed Blush Hope you all have a good evening.

Silver66 · 04/11/2010 18:37

what the f**k is a hyphen!

Good for you Diabolik -- anywaaaaay a story for you all - got to work this morning and have had a bad neck since went to France and slept on crap bed - notice up on wall 'physio here today if you want an appointment' - I think great - a nice massage on my neck just what I need - go to said physio (called Alan BTW) at appointed time and eagerly take off jumper in anticipation of relaxing massage..........

FUCK ME I left half an hour later after panting as I did in childbirth to relieve the pain, begging him to stop, shouting 'how much more - I can't take it'.... and I've got to go back on Monday for more ........AAARGH....however to be fair I can now turn my head further round than straight ahead which is a bonus - particularly when driving Grin owch xx
