btw loopy my love - one thing i have found since i stopped drinking is that the evenings are far from boring!!, i just seem to have time to do so much (sober sex is pretty good too and can while away at least 10 minutes!! [hgrin]) seriously, i have found that i have taken up hobbies i let drop, i can actually concentrate to read a book again (and remember what i read the next day) and i sleep a lovley natural, proper restful sleep!!, i nearly boing out of bed every morning now, every day holds loads of possiblitys and i want to get on and grab them!, its a fantastic feeling!!

Whitenapteen · 29/10/2010 11:38

Me too on the no drinking, too scared to risk the chance that 'just one glass won't hurt'. If you can do the cutting down and just drinking a bit socially and that is your aim and the bus helps then that's brilliant. Each of us have to find the right way for ourselves. The first two weeks of not drinking involved 4 social events where AI didn't drink - took the line of 'designated driver. It was interesting to just take a back seat to observe while those around me drank. It wasn't as hard as I thought but made me resolve always to have a variety of soft drinks for guests in future. At a Pimm's party the only alterative was fizzy or tap water and I find I can only manage a glass of fizzy water before feeling bloated!

Good luck each and everyone with your aim for today. Today I will not be drinking.

Hi,
Day 2! Can I ask, do you think it is a good idea counting days, or should I just start every day fresh?
I'm so sorry about my bout of madness yesterday, but so wanted to join, and was scared, so sadly took it out on someone else.
I told my lovely husband that I had been on this thread, thinking he wouldn,t approve (why!?) But he couldn't have been more pleased, and said that anything that helps is wonderful, and you really have.
Sorry to go on.
Mouse, last week I trawled all the threads to find your first few, but couldn't. Do I understand that you have a poorly little one. If it is anything to do with asthma, I can tell you that it does get better when they get older, because as they grow, the tubes get bigger, we haven't been in by flasing blue lights for about 10 years now:)
Have lovely days all of you.
Thanks again

thursoback · 29/10/2010 11:42

Should say flashing!

HammerMouseOfHorrors · 29/10/2010 11:44

Morning all.

JWN - the best way to save money is to look at your food shopping.

I went to Morrisons this week, normally we get a delivery from Tesco. Just needed a few bits, like you do, and I am the type who would buy brands, rather than the store's own.

Anyway, McCain Wedges were £1.64, BOGOF. Morrison's own were 54p. Bigger bag and bloody gorgeous. So you could buy 3 of those for less than the BOGOF offer.

LOOK AT WHAT THE OFFER IS BEFORE YOU BUY IT. A lot of the time, it's cheaper not to fall for it. And maybe cut down on none essentials like new shoes Wink

Have I bored you enough for now? Grin

Morning Tippler (I hope I have your name right). Smile

Desire - how are you today?

Thank for filling the other thread up ladies and gents, I get told off by the thread police otherwise!! Grin

Nemo is v bad today so I will be popping in and out. It's heartbreaking when he's like this.

Be Brave Babes!!! xx

Toclear - I quit drinking August 2nd. I have been 'sober' since. I have the odd glass now and again but never more than that.

I don't miss it at all. I love not being pissed. I love that I wake refreshed, well mostly, and that my skin looks amazing, I am slimmer, and far less snappy with my family.

Lots and lots of benefits.

Good to see you back. xx

thurso - nice to see you!!, its fantastic that you have the support of your dh, mine has been such a help!, even putting up with my tantrums every so often! - i used to count the days, i found it helped me and gave me a spur on when i needed one - i am now counting in months! [hsmile], in fact, 5 months this weekend!! Shock, i cant believe how quickly that time has passed because the changes in this house are immense, so much has happened, we have had tears and arguments, it hasnt always been easy for any of us, but now, i find that my dh does proper belly laughing again, dd looks and sounds like a normal teenager Hmm [hgrin], my house is a home again, i look so much better its not true and i just enjoy the peace in my head, that in its self is priceless!!

im plainly looking at a couple of years of financial crap, but hey, so what!, i can cope!, not something i would have been able to say 5 months ago!!

zombieinhighheelswhatnext · 29/10/2010 11:52

thanks mouse! your tips are great!, i dont understand this concept of shoes being non essential though! Hmm

hope you little love has a better day!!!XXX

BBwannaB · 29/10/2010 12:39

Hi babes, new thread, new attitude I see. Smile
I am in the no drinking camp, if I could control my drinking I would have done it years ago. I agree with White that most events you go to have pitiful selections of non-A drinks so I am trying to ensure that I have spare supplies of my favourite soft tipples to take along to any social events to get over that momentary indecision about what to drink.
Good luck to all over the weekend.

CJsSeveredHead · 29/10/2010 13:03

Hi all.

Re non-alcoholic drinks at functions ... I went to a wedding in the summer and had to smuggle in diet coke like contraband ... the wedding had free booze and orange juice but the hotel charged for any other soft drinks!

Talk about role reversal ... in the old days I'd have had a sneaky bottle of vodka in my bag Grin

Awww Red - thank god you're here >>> xxxx

RedDevilMoomin · 29/10/2010 13:35

Thanks silver As you can tell I am really, really struggling at the moment. Pretty much disowned by my parents, divorce papers in the post and having to stay with some people I have not known long. Oh the 'joys' of booze.

How are you doing?

HammerMouseOfHorrors · 29/10/2010 13:36

RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So good to see you xx

RedDevilMoomin · 29/10/2010 13:40

Hello my lovely mouse ! So, so, so good to see you! Loving my hugs, feeling a bit teary too - a hangover can do that to a girl...

terrifiedincorner · 29/10/2010 13:41

Hi Red,

I haven't 'met' you before but have read all the threads. I'm really so sorry you're having such a hard time at the moment. Hope you'll stay on board and stay around for the wonderful support on here - just like all the amazing support you've given everyone else on these threads xxx

Hello to everyone else. I just wanted to post as I am about to sign off for the weekend. I'm off for the Halloween drink-fest. Although I know I will drink, I've done so much thinking this last week that I know I won't be drinking 'in the same way' if that makes sense?! Every single e-mail (I mean every single one) that has bounced back and forth about this weekend has mentioned booze and drinking. It makes me worried about how I am actually going to change my lifestyle when my social life is so deeply entrenched in alcohol Sad. It's pretty terrifying actually.

On a positive note, I've only had 1 night drinking since a week yesterday, so that's 7 days sober out of 8!!! It's a positive start for me to get back to after this weekend.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend however you're planning to approach it, I'll be back on Monday with my open ticket if that's okay? I may be more of a lurker than a prolific poster but I will be following and contributing Smile

xx

(p.s. I may change my name on Monday to celebrate a new chapter, something more positive!)

hubbabubbababba · 29/10/2010 13:43

Red, I dont think i have come across you before on here, im new...but wanted to offer up a big big hug x

HammerMouseOfHorrors · 29/10/2010 13:44

terrified

You sound so much more positive. Please do change your name, something bold and brave ok?

Have a wonderful weekend. Well done on taking control. Smile

Red - come snuggle over here with me and Silver til the others arrive, then we'll have a huge group hug or group shuffle hug for MsGeepers Grin

Hi everyone. Stopping by again :) I'm on day (well night actually) 2 Blush and this is it this time. I really think I can do it.

I've just finished reading the last thread (took ages but got me though night 2 so thank you all so much!). Hope to check in tomorrow night, and the night after and so on as my days add up. :)

SordidSucker · 29/10/2010 13:46

Hugs to Red - I know all about teary hangovers. :(

Good luck this weekend terrified. Hope to chat to you next week. :)

RedDevilMoomin · 29/10/2010 13:47

A big thank you to hubba and terrified for your welcome. Hopefully I will get to 'know' you better as time goes by.

I have not actually been on a 'bender' these past couple of weeks but am putting a fair bit away each evening. Am still going to work and functioning on some level. But it's still shite.

RedDevilMoomin · 29/10/2010 13:48

Thanks sordid

mouse am definitely going to snuggle up with you and silver. Need some proper sleep rather a drink fuelled coma.

hubbabubbababba · 29/10/2010 13:56

well you're in the right place red , can i join in in the snuggle, i just had a nap and it was the most troubled sleep, I'm pretty knackered and hope the sound sleeping comes a knocking on my door soon

thursoback · 29/10/2010 13:57

Hi,
just cleaned the house, bathrooms, and swept the floors. How very weird, I have gone for days without drinking before, and never drink in the day, but somehow this feels different (here's hoping), and it's Friday, usually a "hey it's Friday, open the bottle evening" .
I managed to find a lot of earlier threads
,and justed wanted to say,-Red- (I don't know how to do bold) I am so pleased you're back, if it wasn't for you, and the others on here, I don't think I would feel different. Just googling stuff, with a hangover, makes one feel worse and hopeless, well, that's what I found.
Hang in there baby:) You're great.
Sorry for the long post.
Does everyone bang on like this at first?

HammerMouseOfHorrors · 29/10/2010 14:01

thurso - you do bold like this thurso but without the spaces between the asterix and letters Smile
