The Brave Babes Carry On The Charabanc Trip - Leaving The Booze Behind!

1000 replies

Mouseface · 14/09/2010 11:33

Hello and welcome! Smile

This is thread number eight!

The Brave Babes are all at different stages of quitting the booze. Some have stopped, some are thinking about it and some are just cutting down.

They are full of support and wisdom for those of you wishing to climb aboard the Bus or Charabanc!! Grin

The Babes aren't an exclusive club, they never judge and they don't charge for advice either!

So, come meet them. I'm Mouse, by the way, and I've been sober since August 2nd 2010, something I would never have even considered without the support of these threads.

Here are the first seven threads, if you want a bit of history.

Great postings everyone and it all sounds like good news.

Feeling a bit anxious and emotional about everything but hey I know a drink wont help and also in perspective life is ok.

Suppose I am puzzled as to why something that has worried me , scared me and I know to be destructive in my life ie alcohol is now under control and yet I feel so flat.

If you had said to me a month ago you will only have drunk for one day for three weeks running I would have expected to feel jubilant but I dont.

I guess how much worse would I be feeling through all this if I was still sinking a couple of bottles a night.

Anyway off to a friends tonight dc with their Dad. Normally I stay over but tonight I will not be drinking and I will drive home Smile

Morning all,

JWN you beat me to it, I too caught up with posts and thought bloody hell, these people are amazing!

Lucil you sound inspirational today, it's lovely.

I subscribe to this prayer - I have no religious belief so replace God with Bob:

Bob, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

I live by this now as I am a terrible procrastinator, these days, can I do something about the issue causing me pain? Yes? then do it. No? then I will not fret about it. Like everything else its just for today and I'll revisit it tomorrow.

Anyhoo, I have a wicked cold brewing so will be back later but hello to Mouse hope you and Nemo slept, Venus lovely post earlier BTW, WasIndie have a better day today and start afresh, Getting anger was my drink trigger too - when I saw red I saw a bottle of red, its shit but you're doing fab. Sorry not to name check the rest but I'm rooting for us all - have a happy sober day x

Mouseface · 24/09/2010 12:51

getting - I had that too. The initial euphoria wore off with me. All of a sudden, real life became very real.

Take things easy. Write a list of what's bothering you/playing on your mind etc and tackle each thing one at a time.

I think once your head clears, your emotions, feelings, anxiety etc becomes more acute.

Take things slowly xx

"btw, regarding booze in teh shops, have you noticed that the alcohol free beers are placed right next to the super strength largers? - thanks very much tescos! , bloody idiots! "

I suspect this is because the target market for both is the same - the sort of people who belong on threads like this ...

I'm sure you're right. But, out of interest, how often do you think non-alkies drink alcohol-free beer and wine? In my experience, they either don't drink at all, or have one glass of real wine/beer and then stop.

Mouseface · 24/09/2010 14:52

Red - Is on holiday. I have had a text from her and she misses the thread.

But she's fine. Smile

Hello all,

I am feeling rather chilly today. We are having a new boiler put in so all the doors are open as the workmen go in and out. I may have to go out in the car to get warmed up.

I have in my wine rack, a bottle of alcohol free wine. It has been there for about 2 years. I was never tempted to drink it before, and I am nowhere near tempted now Smile

MIFLAW · 24/09/2010 15:13

Hello Mouse!

Venus, I don't blame you - anything alcohol-free tastes like diet lighter fuel.

But how do we acquire these bottles in the first place?

Mouseface · 24/09/2010 15:24

venus/MIFLAW

I got given some M&S alcohol free Mulled Wine when I was expecting Nemo.

I had a glass and threw up!! I kid you not. Lighter fuel mixed with Vimto.

Gross. Uttlery gross.

Why did my bold MIFLAW not work?

OP posts:
venusandmars · 24/09/2010 15:30

I bought mine myself Blush.

I was thinking a couple of years ago that I really enjoyed a glass of cold white (or 6) while I'm cooking and maybe I'd be able to cut down on my drinking if I had alcohol free wine instead. Very worthy idea. But I don't think the bottle has ever even made it as far as the fridge Grin. If I wanted wine (which I often did, then I wanted alcohol, and if I wanted a glass of juice, I just had one.

Now you see, I disagree. I LOVE the taste of an ice cold lager with a curry. Oh yes!!

So I have a Becks blue which is 0.05% but I only have the one and don't then get the urge for a real beer or anything else.

Maybe I'm odd.

I am throwing something into the pot that I have neither experienced or researched, just found. It is called the Sinclair Method and can be found on Wikipedia. Some people seem to swear by it. It may be utter utter crap.

@Venus, I went years without a smear and the 'Jade' factor pushed me to act. I have had the old, (decides not to describe it) treatment for pre-cancerous cells. So I had every excuse to think the worst. Did the serenity prayer on this and the only trauma was opening the envelope to find all clear.

Writing that to stop you worrying about it on your working holiday in India. Have a fabulous time.

Mouseface · 24/09/2010 16:40

Good job I like you cheeky!! Grin
