For the first time in months, I am going out at midday for lunch with my best mate, we will be having a couple of drinks and catching up and we aren't intending to rush.

I have just mentioned to dh that asda shopping is coming between 3 and 5 just in case I am not back (we have to get there, get a table wait for food and have a leisurely lunch etc) and he went mad saying I had better be back to sort asda out when it comes because there is an england game on and he wants to watch it uninterrupted.

Bearing in mind, we have two dd's, so now I will not be able to enjoy lunch as much as I could because I know if I'm not back he will be shouting and balling at the kids and bad language will be flying, but I still don't see why I have to rush back, upon thinking back I think that this is the FIRST time I have been out for lunch without the kids this year.

I am ranting now lol and repeating things, but I am so bloody angry at the minute, I can't think straight.

Or, he could tape the f-ing football and watch it "as live" later having spent quality time with his children.

There is no compromise here!!!!

She's going out. He's staying at home and watching football (whilst the kids trash the house around him ) All he has to do is open the door. Maybe he could just leave a note on the door for the ASDA people to just leave it outside? Fill a washing up bowl with cereal on the floor in case the children get peckish?

As an aside how many men clear it with their DPs that it's OK for them to look after the children when they go out?

sweetkitty · 03/09/2005 10:42

It's only 90 minutes, how many of us can sit down interrupted for 90 mins surely he can stuff the fridge/freezer things at half time, bribe the kids with sweets and toys for watch of the 45 mins or get them watching the footie with him.

Go out MBDV enjoy yourself - I'm sure you have had the kids all week anyway, it's September and you have had one lunch out!

kelli22 · 03/09/2005 10:43

just one more point, im guessing you dont want to watch the match mbdv so say you come bk by 3pm and the shopping arrives at 5pm you could have had an extra 2 hours out with ur friend.....

i know my dp would rather i was out while the game was on because i would only be sat there bored to tears, my dp would rather i was enjoying myself being the kind loving bloke that he is. i think yours should do the same, think of all the things you do for him, im sure there are many i.e. cooking washing looking after the children while he goes out etc

i think you deserve some space without rushing

nutcracker · 03/09/2005 10:43

Have some of you lost your marbles or what.

It is a football game

She has just said she hasn't been out in months and it will be 3 hours not all day.

I would be really peed off about his attitude tbh and would stay out even longer just to make a point.

charliecat · 03/09/2005 10:44

Me too nutty

alexsmum · 03/09/2005 10:45

mrs bubs...please please please just go out and enjoy yourself and promise you won't cut short you afternoon. promise??? you will be letting us all down...
bloody men and bloody sport.

aloha · 03/09/2005 10:45

It's the 'he went mad' and the 'you'd better be back' tone of this I don't like. How RUDE people are to each other! Can't you just say, all you have to do is open the door and they'll leave the stuff in the hall. It would be nice if you could put frozen stuff away at half time if it arrives before then. The rest can sit there.
I do think all sport is silly though. Dh likes football but would never think watching it was an excuse to shout and yell at me.

thing is kelli i reckon he wants her there so she will look after the kids as well as put the shopping away.

aloha · 03/09/2005 10:47

I mean, if it was a new episode of Property Ladder, say, I could understand the excitement, but a silly ball game? No, don't get it.

alexsmum · 03/09/2005 10:48

lol aloha! i know !! or even ER!! but football????

magnolia1 · 03/09/2005 10:51

Well I didn't even know there was a game

I guess I am luck coz my dh does the shooping at Tescos every week sometimes with all 4 kids

magnolia1 · 03/09/2005 10:52

alexsmum
that shows how selfish he is then, i would def go out at about 5.30 so he could have the fun of giving them their dinner and putting them to bed.

they are his children, i dont understand why men think they can get away with doing what they want and women are left to hold things together i think its really unfair.

for e.g. when kerry mcfadden had a bit of a break down and went to that clinic and left the kids with brian, it was seen as outrageous that she should leave the children with their dad while she sorted herself out........fair play to her i reckon!!

did you see kerry mcfadden on tv last night- trying to turn her into an austrian society lady?

SoupDragon · 03/09/2005 10:59

Beetroot, not everyone can go out all the time for a childfree lunch with friends who also happen to be childfree at the same time.
