Hello, welcome to thread number six!! Smile

I'm Mouse and, thanks to these threads, I quit the booze on August 2nd 2010.

This truly is a fantastic source of support for anyone who wants it! Full of real, honest, everyday people who are all at different stages of quitting the booze, cutting down or being long term sober.

There are no judgmental 'know-it-alls' here, whatever your circumstances, you will be supported all the way.

Come and meet the rest of The Brave Babes........

And, as before, here are the previous five threads for those who would like to see how this all began.

JWN's original thread (the reason we are all here)

Thread two

Thread three

Thread four

Thread five

Wasindie, we may not be doing much for the economy but perhaps we could give Hallmark a run for its money?

We could do a special line of cards for the one day sober, the one week sober. Support cards for those who are back on day one, witty rhymes about non-alcoholic drinks. JWN could get all creative with her sewing machine and make special little sobriety presents.

I now need to apply this creativity to a workshop programme. Problem is that it requires no creativity at all, and that is why I am not enthusiastic about doing it. May do my website instead (probably not in rhyming couplets).

MsGee · 26/08/2010 15:01

Funny that a few people work with grants and funding. Although for me, 'work' is questionable today.

Wasindie - yes in new house I will have my own office - am currently in tiny room squished between hoover, clothes drier and sofa bed on a wee pull out desk. I am going to have proper shelves and everything!! I can imagine having the same excitement re white board. Although DH knows I am already panicking that the internet won't work when we move. He already has to deal with me ringing him up at work screeching 'the internet is broken' every few weeks!

Wasindie I feel like we are in parallel universes, I am writing about co-production in communities and public services to improve outcomes ... (or rather, I should be writing about...).

Venus & Wasindie, you should definitely go into the cards business. Although you might come on here then and write about big society instead of writing poems?? Wink

SordidSucker · 26/08/2010 15:26

Er.. hi. Nice to meet you all. I have been reading this thread, and the previous ones and it's helped me see things a bit clearer so thank you Jesus for starting it.

I'm not a parent, and live in Australia so hope it's ok if I post here. I stumbled across mumsnet ages ago and read it when I can't sleep (often!).

I have trouble with wine and have been quitting since June. Was going very well but then last week it went bad again and I had wine three nights in a row. Tonight is the first night back off it.

Anyway, I think you are all doing a marvelous job and would love to pop in every now and then. :)

RedMoomin · 26/08/2010 15:28

Welcome to you sordid! Well done for getting back off it following your slip. Pop in as often as you want/ can and let us know how you are doing! The more the merrier x

RedMoomin · 26/08/2010 15:29

(I am not a parent either sordid, I just came onto MN for a nosy and eventually came across JWN's original thread.)

SordidSucker · 26/08/2010 15:30

Thanks RedMoomin. :) Can't believe I finally got the courage to post in here!

RedMoomin · 26/08/2010 15:32

It's much easier than you think it's going to be isn't it? I was worried that no one would reply and I would have to slink off embarrassed into the shadows! Which was definitely not the case! Are you from the UK originally?

maddogsandenglishmen · 26/08/2010 15:35

Hi Sordid, nice to "meet" you. glad you found us. Is it the middle of the night in Australia?

MsGee · 26/08/2010 15:36

Hi Sordid, welcome aboard! Took me a while to get the nerve to post here too, can't shut me up now Smile

desiretochange · 26/08/2010 15:37

Welcome Sordid:)

SordidSucker · 26/08/2010 15:39

Yep I was worried no one would reply. Very happy you did!

Not from the UK, in fact have never been there. Blush That's why I'm not sure if I should be posting here! Friend sent me a link to a thread in classics, the funny tips one, and I ended up finding this thread too!

SordidSucker · 26/08/2010 15:40

Hi maddogs, MsGee and desire. :) Yep it's after midnight here. I can never sleep the first few nights after having had wine.

RedMoomin · 26/08/2010 15:44

Not a problem about not having been to the UK - not at all!

I think it's the same for most of us when we come off the booze. Sleeping patterns go out of the window! I know it's definitely like that for me. I spend the first couple of nights lightly drowsing (having horrendous nightmares) or reading. It's an awful feeling - and guess what? You never have to go through that again. How? By staying away from the drink just one day at a time... You can do it! Smile

desiretochange · 26/08/2010 15:48

Am still very much in the toddler section of this group, as I keep falling down while trying to walk away from wine:)

SordidSucker · 26/08/2010 15:49

Thanks RedMoomin. I felt disgusting this morning when I woke up, I'm so glad I won't be feeling like that tomorrow morning. Thats what I'm focusing on at the moment.

RedMoomin · 26/08/2010 15:54

I am early days (again too) if you remember. Has only been about 3 weeks, I think? Or is it longer? Not sure - trying not to worry too much about it this time!

It is so fantastic to wake up hangover free! (And shame-, guilt-, self-pity-, despair-, etc- free too!!)

ChristianaTheSeventh · 26/08/2010 15:56

Hello everyone, been run off my feet but still here.

Still no news on job! On the lookout for something new. Venus I rewrote my CV to send to a contact of a contact this morning and have been asked to come in next week! Thank you so much for your help!

I hope all is well with everyone. DD1 has started school, so lovely to have some routine back in my life. DD2 is sleeping very badly so I am soooo tired. Off for sober sushi in town this evening.

RedMoomin · 26/08/2010 15:59

Hi christi, nice to see you back. You sound really positive and upbeat this afternoon which is lovely to see! Enjoy your sober sushi tonight. (Got weird mental images of drunken Japanese food now! Smile)

RedMoomin · 26/08/2010 16:07

I am so pleased that the cheese worked!

I am even more pleased that you have had such a productive day. Well done! You can relax with some lovely cheese/ cake/ curry (not at the same time!) this evening and enjoy it knowing what you have achieved. It's lovely that DS's nurse said what a good job you were doing - it's just nice to get confirmation and recognition from someone else, isn't it?

Mouseface · 26/08/2010 16:42

Sure is. She has been us since day 1 really. Very supportive and I know that I can call on her for help.

The cheese is all gone Red. Can I start on the chocolate crispy cakes I have now? Yum!!

Pasta and homemade sauce with garlic bread tonight. And hot chocolate with a scoop of posh vanilla ice-cream in for supper!!

It's like a desert all on it's own!!

Lovey. Are you off now Red?
