10 weeks ago i started a thread asking for help - i was in a very desperate place, totally dependent on alchohol, unhappy, lonely and floundering around trying to make sense of it all. i was in danger of losing everything i hold dear.

in those few short weeks, i have got my life back and picked up a few computer friends along the way - we help each other, support each other, and laugh and cry together - if you would like to join us, please feel free - no judging, preaching, sermonising or moralising - we are simply ordinary people with a bloody awful illness!

I am not the best person to answer that! mouse - you seem to know what you are doing!

Mouseface · 09/08/2010 10:57

Forthe

Type it in a post and I'll link it for you Smile

Can I join in? I have been lurking for ages and in great admiration of the progress you are all making.

I've just been on holiday for 3 weeks and I think actually drank LESS than I do at home. More relaxed, not in normal routine, and I could have a glass of wine when I WANTED one ie at lunch or mid afternoon without DH turning a hair or me feeling guilty.

Back at home I am back in the normal spiral and I am fed up with feeling crap in the mornings - I am sure I am not giving my all at work - or at home for that matter....

DD's friends are signed up for a dance class starting next month and dd (6) wants to go too. It takes place at 10.30 on a Sunday morning.

Despite knowing that it will be a nice opportunity for me to have a coffee with the other mums, the thought of being up, dressed and out the door - and not feeling tired/hungover - at that time on a Sunday morning actually scares me a bit!

I have come to the realisation that if I am worried about doing stuff with dd in the morning at the weekend, that I have got to the point where this MUST stop.

venusandmars · 09/08/2010 11:00

Moomin, he's got pages and pages to read. Poor guy. At least it's not all about shoes and hair dye.

Fortheverylasttime · 09/08/2010 11:01

Haven't a clue, mouse.

On Friday I disabled by keyboard and every time I pressed a key, I got a very annoying theatrical squeak. I only sorted myself out by moving to the guest account. Literally the only thing I could do until I had a random guess at that was play internet bridge, because then I only needed the mouse and clicking. My ds is in the Med, and I have tried to call him to advise. Have the computer guy coming tonight to fix various things. He can make a laptop dance.

My name is Ftvlt and I am addicted to bridge and I advise none of you to ever go there.

I thought I had kicked it.

RedMoomin · 09/08/2010 11:01

Welcome porto! I am sick and tired of being sick and tired also. Are you starting today? I can have a sobriety buddy!

RedMoomin · 09/08/2010 11:02

venus - thankfully the posts are actually about the battle with booze as you said!

Fortheverylasttime · 09/08/2010 11:03

bridgedoctor.com

Tells you all you need to know. Do not go there. It opens a social life which involves talking about (really) the war, etc.

Mouseface · 09/08/2010 11:04

MIFLAW!!!!!!!!

WHERE ARE YOU?

Hello Portofino. Smile

Well done for getting this far.

I'm on day 8.

RedMoomin · 09/08/2010 11:06

mouse - Are you still keeping a note of how many of us are aboard? I think my list is totally out of date now!

venusandmars · 09/08/2010 11:06

Hi portofino. It is so easy just to get into that habit of opening a bottle of wine with everything, and then going on to have even more at the weekend because, well, just because it's the weekend.

I will not be drinking today. I don't know about 4 weeks time, but it starts with today anyway.

And there is something especially nice and refreshing about feeling sober and clean on a weekend morning.

maddogsandenglishmen · 09/08/2010 11:08

Question for those of you in AA: Would it look really, truly awful for an obviously-pregnant woman to walk through the door? Or would no one bat an eyelid?

There are 2 English-speaking meetings here a week and it would be great to find some kind of non-drinking support network.

Not sure I have the nerve though.

Mouseface · 09/08/2010 11:12

Red

There is 28 on my list, from this and the last 2 threads.

Do you want me to post it?????

Grin

Forthe

Do you want me to link that bridge doctor?

RedMoomin · 09/08/2010 11:13

Maddogs - do it!! I have been to meetings with pregnant ladies and it's all fine. Some of them had been sober for many years but they still attend meetings. And even if you walked into an AA meeting, pregnant and drunk you would not be judged there. You will get fantastic support. When's the first meeting you can get to?

RedMoomin · 09/08/2010 11:14

I want to see the list but only if everyone's OK with it too!

jesuswhatnext · 09/08/2010 11:15

maddog - no one would bat an eyelid!! they will just be pleased to see you!

OP posts:
venusandmars · 09/08/2010 11:17

Maddogs, I think no one else judges us as harshly as we judge ourselves anyway. And most alkies (including me) are notoriously self centred anyway, and may be too busy judging themselves to jusdge you.

For me being sober is about MY sobriety, not about other people's. I will shamelessly use others if it helps to keep me from picking up the first drink. But then I hope I have the generosity to give back at other times, or to simply share what I have experience and trust that it has meaning for someone.

RedMoomin · 09/08/2010 11:31

mouse are you still about? Feeling awful again... Not going to pick up though - so no need to worry in that regard... So tired too - am looking forward to going to bed this afternoon! Smile

RedMoomin · 09/08/2010 11:34
