Well, thanks to the refreshingly honest and inspirational JesusWhatNext - this is the third thread, for the battle to beat the booze for all of those who are on the path to do so.

Some are sober, some are trying to be and some are still drinking.

I'm Mouse, I'm new to this and I'm scared. So, come and join the journey.

morning all

daaaaaaaaay 4

well done everyone

COngratulations Curry

jesuswhatnext · 02/08/2010 08:49

morning everyone !!

  • i agree with venus wholeheartedly - this is a fantastic place to put our thoughts down - i DO think that this illness is hereditry, which does not bode well for our dcs, maintaining our own sobriety can only be a good example to them!
i know that even my dd has laughed at soem of my past antics, but not anymore, all she sees is a sad, drunken old bag who makes her life miserable. the ONLY option left to me now is sobriety, and tbh, i dont mind one bit, i feel happier and healthier than i have done in years!
GlassInHand · 02/08/2010 09:16

Morning everyone.

I did it!

Slept quite well, but I woke round 3 and I was sweating so much I had to change my top, is that something to do with the alcohol or lack of it? It was wonderful to wake this morning and for a sec I thought, shit what did I do last night and then I remembered,

I DID NOTHING!!!!!

Tonight will be difficult, dhd is on night duty and that's when I would always have a bottle of wine so that I would sleep [embarrassed]

GlassInHand · 02/08/2010 09:17

dh not dhd, who on earth is dhd

Fortheverylasttime · 02/08/2010 09:19

Trinity, did you look at the Way foundation, which stands for widowed and young, not young and widowed?

I think that it takes 4 days to detox, and from day 5 the struggle is in the head, iyswim. For example, if you go to a rehab that does not have detox facilities, you have to have not had a drink for 3 days.

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 09:23

Good morning all! It's lovely to be back on here - and hasn't it been moving quickly?!

CONGRATULATIONS curry!! So pleased for you. (And please keep posting even if just to say hello!)

Welcome to: glass, lightbulb, hazel and iam. If I have missed any newcomers please accept my apologies! It's lovely to 'meet' you all.

Hello to everyone else too!

Well, I had a good weekend. Went to a really, really great meeting on Saturday night. Loads of identification with the main share but then I got home... And I really, really wanted a drink. I was soooo close to it. But for the first time ever instead of just doing it I contacted an AA friend (not able to get on here over the weekend really). I just texted him and before he had even got back to me the urge had started to recede and then it was over. Thank God for that!

Day 40 today. Feeling a bit wobbly after how I felt on Sat night but am still sober!

Looking forward to hearing from anyone who's about.

TrinityRhino · 02/08/2010 09:24

well day four here so thats good but also explains why I fell on day 7

yes I have had a look, very very helpful, thankyou fortheverylasttime

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 09:24

Well done glass! It's a fantastic feeling isn't it?

GlassInHand · 02/08/2010 09:24

Just to add, well done all of you. You are wonderful and strong, each and everyone of you.

Tell me more about the detox, that sounds interesting, I never thought of detoxing from the alcohol. What should I expect?

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 09:26

Hi trinity, well done for getting over last week - which sounded like it was very difficult.

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 09:27

I think that if you have managed to get through the day/ night without a drink glass then you don't need to detox if that makes sense. You're already on your way. If anyone wants to correct me on this please feel free!

GlassInHand · 02/08/2010 09:30

Thanks moomin, I have to watch myself today though. In the past when I have done one day, well, one day with just a few beers, the next day I have thought, ah sure I'm fine, I don't have a problem, I will just have some wine now. God I am an idiot.

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 09:30

goingtobepositive: just checked the previous thread and saw you on there. Have you made it over here? Well done done for picking yourself up after the 'slip' - that's such a difficult thing to do.

GlassInHand · 02/08/2010 09:31

And wow Moomin, 40 days! How biblical ;) Well done you, I am in awe!

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 09:32

Totally understand glass - for me it usually takes a few weeks and then I think the same! Maybe that's why I had an immense urge to pick up on Sat night? Anyway, it doesn't matter - I'm an alky and that's it!

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 09:33

40 days and 40 nights, ha ha! I thought the same. I went nearly 11 months up to March of this year and then it all went to hell for a couple of months. But here I am - again!

GlassInHand · 02/08/2010 09:34

The thing I mean about detox, is that I hadn't even thought of the fact that my liver would be getting a break and doing it itself, and wondering what I should watch out for. I will almost enjoy headaches etc if I feel it is my body getting clean.

gingeroots · 02/08/2010 09:36

Just to say hi to everyone .
Algee - how you doing ?
Mouse ?

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 09:50

Morning ginger. How are you today?

To the newcomers who are struggling with sleep - I just wanted to say that when I stop drinking (yes, I have done so many times!) I find the first couple of nights are almost sleep-free. I get really hot and kind of sweaty (but it feels almost slimey. TMI?!), if I do fall asleep I jerk out if it suddenly. But this soon goes and the bliss of natural sleep returns within a few days. (I think it might have been hazel who was having sleep problems? So I just wanted to reassure!)

glass - I would just get loads of fluids down you to flush your liver and kidneys. Don't be surprised if your skin erupts for a few days - mine does and I just try to take comfort in thinking that it must be all the crap finally leaving my body.

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 10:21

Have I scared everyone off with my talk of 'slime'?! Hopefully not!

jesuswhatnext · 02/08/2010 10:27

i felt physically fairly dreadful for the first 4 or 5 days, very tired, spotty, just drained really, i think it is also a very emotional time to finally admit that you are an alcoholic, everything just feels hard work iyswim?

after about 4 nights, with broken sleep and very vivid dreams, i just seem to drift off into a lovley natural sleep, it is absolute bliss to wake up eveyday without the guilt, angst, worry and general low that the booze gives me - i admitted in a previous thread that i used to, at times, sweat horribly from my scalp, long damp stringy hair, eugh! i put it done to menopause (another denial tactic!), since i stopped the booze it has stopped totally .

another thing i have noticed is my sense of smell is really heightened, i have been buying lilys to put on my hall table, it is a joy to walk in and smell them.

jesuswhatnext · 02/08/2010 10:30

moomin - i get what you mean by a sort of slimy feel, when i am near people you are drinking, i can sort of sense a horrid sweat about them, sort of boozy and stinky iyswim?

(uugghhh god, i used to smell like that! )

jesuswhatnext · 02/08/2010 10:31

who, not you! doh

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 10:32

Thanks for that JWN! Sounds much like my slime confession! I also had greasy hair at times and at others it was so dry it was almost crackling! (My poor body, what I put it through!)

Agree about the emotional side of things too. It is bloody hard. That's why it's such a big and brave step for everyone to get on here and admit what's been going on.

Sense of smell has not really improved - but then I smoke like a chimney, ha ha!

Are you off to a meeting today? Am off tonight. Looking forward to it.

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 10:33

JWN - totally understand the smell from other people. Although my overall sense of smell has not really improved I seem to be able to smell booze on people a mile off!
