Brave Battling Babes - Booze No More!!

Mouseface · 30/07/2010 23:47

Well, thanks to the refreshingly honest and inspirational JesusWhatNext - this is the third thread, for the battle to beat the booze for all of those who are on the path to do so.

Some are sober, some are trying to be and some are still drinking.

I'm Mouse, I'm new to this and I'm scared. So, come and join the journey.

evening babes!!!, sounds like everyone has a nice evening planned - dh is yet to get home, am hoping he will take the hint (ie, nothing is cooking! Grin) and take dd and i out for dinner! Grin

dd and i have been to a lovley old-fashioned seaside town near to us this afternoon, had tea and cake in a little old tea shop! was so nice to have her to myself for a while Smile

yes venus - it is 'nigel' stock, i fancy having a go at paella, love to eat it, but never tried cooking it myself.

trinity - what a lovley feeling, all that old crap thrown out, everywhere sparkling! Smile

missp - it is not unknown for me to hide cakes when i have made them! (they are mine i tell you!! mine!!!) Grin

mouse - enjoy your dinner, whatever it is!

jesuswhatnext · 06/08/2010 18:40

back later, off for an N&T!!

venusandmars · 06/08/2010 18:44

Trin, the SW will only be happy to see things as they are (despite the sour face they may portray). She/he may not have known you were drinking, but they will notice the new vigour and energy, and will probably be more supportive as a consequence. Ha, they may even think it is all because the carer has been helping you with the cleaning. Doesn't matter, that they don't know why some of the changes are happening, let them think what they like. The important thing is that you sound better, you sound as though you are taking your tablets regularly, and most importantly your kids will be more secure when you are not drinking and are 'keeping house' for them.

Fab, fab, fab. You're doing great.

MissPerrier · 06/08/2010 18:58

Mouse me too! Hormental that is, hence slightly deranged chocolate custard ownership issues, and finger printing the chocolate brownie packet! Roll on menopause!
Wasindie my mother in law is very fierce you have my sympathy. How truly lovely to have brand new baby girls! I would have loved a daughter, gorgeous as my boys are!
Trinity wish I could say the same about our bathroom. Science experiment is more fitting.
JWN haven't you put Nigel through enough! Grin

Fortheverylasttime · 06/08/2010 19:31

All together now. We are not powerless!
No one is going to convince us that we are powerless! (As if!)

Toclearmyhead · 06/08/2010 19:55

Love hormental :o

Am so suggestible think I will sit here and make a list of lovely food to eat - brownies, ice cream , Nigel (don't know what he would say about that :o) I agree with having to hide things when I bake - there's a secret place on the top shelf where I hide my goodies!

Tonight we are being lazy and having a curry. I am drinking sparkling pink ginger drink and it's very nice. I am feeling very happy!

Trinity - you sound like you've got loads done, am Envy, my house is a tip at the moment.

Wasindie - hello, congratulations on your babies (and imminent departure of your MIL!)

Mouse - I've not had ovaltine for years, will add that to my list!

My name would be FrizzyMouseyClearhead - hmm, may think of a namechange over the weekend!

Algee - hope you're ok tonight and preparing for a good weekend.

So many names - it's fab!

Mouseface · 06/08/2010 20:09

Toclear

Hello lovely - kebab here. Tis my only vice these days!! Grin

So does your hair look like an untidy rodent then? Wink

I have a written list of names/posters from this thread, and the second..... not the first, was going to see if anyone wanted me to post it!

I have to make notes in the morning to remember who I need to say hi to!!

Just chilling out now with a squash and lemonade! Yum!!

The craving for vodka has gone too. And I feel so happy about it!!!!

How refreshing not to be worrying about having to drive hungover tomorrow. Smile

Hope everyone is ok.

Hello to everyone on here (and to anyone who is lurking).

Friday evening and I am not drunk. Amazing.

I had thought I was a 'functional' alcoholic, one of those people who drank to excess yet still managed to work normally and well. I didn't go to work drunk, I met important deadlines yada, yada... But I think I am beginning to recognise that what I saw as 'functional' was actually a bit below par, I turned out work that I'm not really proud of, and I hadn't even noticed how my performance was declining.

If there is anyone out there reading who thinks they are doing OK and functioning well despite their drinking, I'd urge you to have a wee think about it.

Mouseface · 06/08/2010 20:56

venus

Had a major wobble at 18:15. SERIOUS case of 'where's the fecking vodka!' GGrrrrrr!

I have no idea BTW. I know it's in the house.

So, off I went and kept busy. And now I am 2 juices down and on my treat of a diet coke.

Isn't it brilliant not being drunk on a Friday night! I feel really proud of myself for not giving in.

Silly, but true. I know that others have achieved far more but I'm doing a little happy dance!

You ok?

OP posts:
venusandmars · 06/08/2010 21:17

Hi (red)mouse, well done on surviving your wobble. Isn't it interesting how intense the feeling is, yet if you can get through it, the feeling subsides and the perspective returns.

Just spoke to dp on phone, missing him but enjoying time and space on my own.

You've changed your approach a lot since you first posted on here, mouse, keep it up, you are doing such a good thing for yourself and for your dd and little ds.

Mouseface · 06/08/2010 21:18

Orf to Bedfordshire to read.

Night Babes, sleep well. xx

Day 5 done!!

No alcohol here since 12 Oct 2008, except Christenings and weddings (two, so far; So as not to make a big deal of it) I want to help anyone else do it. Remember, we are NOT powerless!!!!!!!!!

Fortheverylasttime · 06/08/2010 21:51

Basically, if you want to drink to get unconscious, ask yourself why? If you don't, then just have a couple of glasses. If you are drinking spirits, then ask yourself why.

Don't make it into a religion. Make it a health issue. I

venusandmars · 06/08/2010 21:56

Hi ftvlt, you've posted here a few times, tell us what's going on with you. What happened at those christenings and weddings? Just once drink, or did it take you back?

Don't know about "off message" but, because alcoholism is a recognised mental illness, there is always the danger of that sort of thought turning into a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Why not forget about "just around the corner" for today and instead focus on what is immediately in front of you?

You are doing really well - don't sabotage yourself!
