Mouseface · 30/07/2010 23:47

Well, thanks to the refreshingly honest and inspirational JesusWhatNext - this is the third thread, for the battle to beat the booze for all of those who are on the path to do so.

Some are sober, some are trying to be and some are still drinking.

I'm Mouse, I'm new to this and I'm scared. So, come and join the journey.

jesuswhatnext · 30/07/2010 23:59

oh mouse - you made me

i am jesuswhatnext and i am an alcoholic.

the women (and miflaw) on this thread support and encourage each other, have a bit of a laugh and a bit of a cry and do not judge others, we have all made mistakes, made total tits of ourselves but we keep on coming back! because

TODAY WE WILL NOT BE DRINKING!

algee · 31/07/2010 07:15

Morning all, thank you mouse!

Hello to luciltastic and all of the others I missed after I ran away from the 'whiskey kitchren' last night. Good on you luciltastic for posting, and glad to see you Christi, cat and Trinity (think I 'spoke' with the rest who posted before I went to bed??)

Day 23. Family home last night, which was lovely, so lots of catching up to do today.

See you all, hangover free later on...wasindie hope you're getting some sleep by now!

algee · 31/07/2010 07:19

...oh and I second the first posts on this thread. Please post, I would not be on day 23 without this lot. I'm not complacent, nobody is here, nor is anybody remotely judgemental...how could they be?

ChristianaTheSeventh · 31/07/2010 07:49

Hello everyone, day 7 today...DH lying utterly hungover in bed, said this morning that he wouldn't be drinking tonight, excpet when he realsed it's an engagement part and there will be champagne... I've said it's up to him but I won't be having champagne, if I get the job perhaps he can have some to celebrate but one night without is not going to do anyone any harm! Anyway, he's not ready to stop and I can't help him, but he is seriously impressed by me, particularly as I am doing lots of exercise too, did a run yesterday and 30 day shred.

I wouldn't have got anywhere near Day 7 without you, thank you.

MOrning algee. What you doing up so late wasindie?

Mouse I would LOVE help with interview. I have to do a presentation of my choosing (yikes!) have organised that, just need to practise and practise. Otherwise, it's a panel interview. Now, what do I say when they ask me what my biggest weakness is?!?!!? I know deep down what it is!

catinboots · 31/07/2010 08:03

Morning all _ I'm up early with the baby and NOT hungover!! Day 2 here I come.

Christi - how's your presentation going? I'm about halfway through mine - but didn't do any yesterday because i felt so rough! Will hopefully get it finished today.

lucilastic - hello! I'm a newbie here too.

mouse - well done on going to bed and leaving a whole bottle of vodka in the kitchen. I would normally drink everything in the house before I go to bed.

Have fabulous days all of you xx

ChristianaTheSeventh · 31/07/2010 08:30

cat didn't realise you had to do a presentation too. Did they give you a topic? When's your interview?

Morning everyone. Venusandmars here. Sober since the middle of the first thread. But I'm avoiding counting the number of days. I still worry that I will slip and then on top of everything else I'll feel remorse at the 40days sober that is back to day 1. And I've had sooooo many day 1s over the past years. So I really am just taking it one day at a time, and being glad for each day that I am sober. As the days add up I am feeling better and better, sleeping well, looking better (I think), but I'm not really counting the days IYSWIM.

For those who haven't 'met' me, I am just on the right side of 50, I have dds (17 and 22) and I am self employed so at home quite a lot during the daytime. In recent weeks when I should be working I've often been on here posting .

venusandmars · 31/07/2010 08:58

And for anyone who is looking, the ORIGINAL THREAD is here

and the second thread is here

Hope that's worked.

catinboots · 31/07/2010 09:08

hi christi - yes I have to prepare a lesson plan for a group tutorial on goal setting and SMART targets!! Ironic huh?? lol. Interview on Monday so will be spending all weekend fiddling about with bloody powerpoint.

TrinityRhino · 31/07/2010 09:09

morning all
Daaaaaay 2

saturday morning without a hangover

not seen many of then ever

venusandmars · 31/07/2010 09:13

Luci, you posted on the previous thread, "If I face up to my problems I'm scared me and DP have no future without drink"

I have had similar worries, so much of my life with my friends (not so much with dp) has been based on drink, and I thought I would have no life if I wasn't drinking. But now I think that for me, actually I will have no future if I keep on drinking the way I was.

And without a drink in me, I can see that the life I was living wasn't such fun after all. And half the time my friends don't even notice that I'm not drinking.

TrinityRhino · 31/07/2010 09:13

I;m smoking way too much and eating loads of crap though

I've put on a stone and a half since neil died

everyone was saying ohh make sure you eat or you'll waste away

PFT

yeah right, have they mever heard of comfort eating and the amount of calories in alcohol

venusandmars · 31/07/2010 09:15

Morning Trinity. What's the plan for today? Loads of washing? Can you get it outside to dry? I love the smell of washing that's got fresh air in it

venusandmars · 31/07/2010 09:19

Trinity, just don't try to tackle it all at once (sorting out the smoking and eating [not the washing)). MIFLAW said something wise early on about sorting out what's killing you first i.e. the booze, then perhaps thinking about tackling the rest.

I find though that when I'm drunk I eat all kinds of rubbish, and when I'm hungover I crave salty, sugary, fatty food. When I am sober I have more energy to make soup, and I enjoy the taste of it.

TrinityRhino · 31/07/2010 09:22

yep loads of washing
no chance of getting it outside but on the upside I have a tumble dryer so it can be done quick if I out my mind to it

I dont cook at the mo

the kitchen scares mee as its so dirty

I like cooking, im no good at it though

the reason I stopped was because I just waited for 6pm every night to open the wine (sometimes 5)

once alcohol was open, nothing else mattered

shit I really am fucked up proper

TrinityRhino · 31/07/2010 09:46

sorry didn't mesn to bring the thread down

ChristianaTheSeventh · 31/07/2010 09:56

no you haven't brought the thread down! FGS, I was on here talking about my past coke addiction which is way worse than a messy kitchen!

I know that alcohol does seem to make you all nonchalant about everything else - so tidying up, looking after yourself, doing some paperwork doesn't seem to matter. But everything will fall into place now you're not drinking.

Can I recommend a couple of very cheap books if you're struggling on cooking front. Great recipes, very simple, easy to plan, quick, all in one pot which means less washing up, very easy, and also less olive oil etc used as it's all cooked in one pot. Whole family should like it. I am a really avid cook and I always recommend this books, they are here and [[http://www.amazon.co.uk/101-More-One-pot-Dishes-Triple-tested/dp/1846077672/ref=pd_sim_b_7 here only about £3.50 each

venusandmars · 31/07/2010 10:48

Trinity, is the carer going to come and help / show you how to clean the kitchen up at some point? Don't stress about cooking stuff just now, but when the kitchen gets sorted start to think about things that you do know how to cook. What did you cook before that you enjoyed?

Once your kitchen is cleaned get the ingredients and enjoy cooking. Your kids will enjoy seeing you cook and they may even want to join in.

As Christi says, one pot recipies are great. My favourite (from when I first left home) is mince beans and macaroni. Just as is says: chopped onion, mince, stock cube, tin of tomatoes, tin of baked beans, and a handful of macaroni. Only one pot to wash up and no complicated timing.

Mouseface · 31/07/2010 10:52

Hello.

CTS

Panel interview? No probs. The good thing about that is, each interviewer will be looking at a different part of your experience.

Re your biggest weakness......... how about you are a perfectionist? A positive negative if you will. No need to even think about the booze.

What are you going to wear? And can I say, go easy on the make-up if you wear it and perfume! Do you smoke? Not being nosy, just trying to help.

The most important thing is that you make eye contact with whoever is speaking to you at the time and a good, firm hand shake! No limp lettuce!! And smile. The worst that can happen is you don't get the job, but why should that be the case?

They wouldn't want to interview you if they didn't think you could do the job!!

Whoops - sorry to hijack!

OP posts:
venusandmars · 31/07/2010 11:04

Christi, I also wondered whether there are aspects of your character that you can see in your drinking that could also be positive if directed in a different way.

e.g. Are you by nature a completer-finisher, once you've started something, you like to finish it? Are you very focused on doing one thing at a time, and doing it well, perhaps to the exclusion of other things? Are you someone who is a good team player, joining in with others even if it wasn't something wanted to do. etc.

venusandmars · 31/07/2010 11:06

Are you good at planning and logistics (I certainly was good at knowing exactly when and how I could get a drink, even in difficult circumstances).

TrinityRhino · 31/07/2010 11:19

just borrowed some washing up liquid from my neighbour

just realised \i was starving so had a jacket pot with tuna mayo and cheese

just realised I haven't been taking my tablets

that will explain my inability to not shout at the girls ]

taken tabs

feeling shit

hate being crap

I will not be crap anymore

venusandmars · 31/07/2010 11:30

That is all good Trin. It may take time, and we're all crap sometimes, but taking your tablets is the right thing to do.

And you won't feel as shit as you would have done if you'd had a hangover.

Clothes washing, and washing up on a Saturday morning. Bloody fantastic!

Mouseface · 31/07/2010 11:39

Trinity

Well done on remebering the tablets! And to eat!

I love cleaning, I'm very odd I know, but I love a clean and tidy house.

The builders - aka Bodgit & Scraper - have destroyed my clean kitchen and lounge. The dryer is still in the dining room too.

I eat and breath dust and every time I move it, it settles again.

Today I am trying to put my house back toogether!!!!
