Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd have liked to hear more of Pip's and Stella's wedding vows, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Several people on the previous thread, and probably the spoilers thread, have rhymed Vince with mince, so credit to all of you! As I start this thread, we don't know what's going to happen to Vince, and it's looking as if Sunday night is going to last all week, or a good chunk of it. Ah well. We have to put up with this kind of thing every few years. I cling to my belief that the SWs aren't going to kill off another of Elizabeth's partners in a horrific accident - but of course they could be toying with us!

Josh has returned from Patagonia sounding strangely changed by his time abroad. Hmm (Angus Imrie is presumably too busy, or perhaps fed up with the limited storylines given to Josh up to now, so the part has been re-cast.)

Will the Brookfield inheritance row start up again now? I do hope so. Josh has been very badly short-changed by his parents' decision to leave the farm to Pip (and Stella). Surely they could have taken the same approach as Pat and Tony and involved both children (with separate provision for Ben, who's not interested in a farming career)?

Over to you!

I'm delighted by the suggestion that the beavers had gnawed through the downed tree. That would be poetic.

Thank you for the new thread, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g.

It might not have been practical in very high winds, but surely Vince's case was one for the air ambulance. I suppose even if it had been able to land safely in a nearby field there would have been a limit to what they could have done before the Fire Brigade arrived to move the tree.

Did someone say a chimney had crashed through the roof of the orangery? I'm trying to work out why this further disaster (with no injuries or death) was thought necessary. Is it to give Freddie a proper project to get his teeth into while Elizabeth and Vince are off the scene (in addition to taking over the running of the abattoir)? The tractor proved its worth, but I think the unicorn and first dance nonsense were over-egging the pudding, the plot would have still worked and been more believable without them. Pip and Stella are farmers, that's what binds them - it's all the silly pink, twinkling additions that are hard to swallow.

JanFebAndOnwards · 21/10/2026 09:37

Yes what was the point of that further non life-changing disaster?
Zainab’s career path plus everything at LL thrown up in the air?

ExitPursuedByABare · 21/10/2026 09:41

Is it me or did Vince sound more concerned about his car? Do we know what he drives?

AgentKim · 21/10/2026 11:50

A Capri Ghia. Like Del Boy. Is my guess.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 21/10/2026 11:59

I was really behind (like, months behind) for a while but I’m all caught up now.

Agree with Harrison and Zainab and it sounding like they were a bit cosy there.

Josh - I’d prefer if he had something to make him stand out from the other men, and I didn’t quite understand why his parents were cross when they thought he wasn’t coming, it must have cost him a fortune to get back.

Chelsea - ❤️

Harrison and Lily, am I one of the few enjoying this? But I loved the episode with Harrison and Fallon, amazing.

And someone linked to an interview with Tracey Horrobin - wow she’s good at her Tracey accent!

Reminds me that Jazzer grew up in some very non-Scottish place, can’t remember where exactly, and George Grundy is Scottish.

Was it Vince who recently bought a car at Amber's dad's dealership? When George had been there for about 30 seconds, had been firmly told that selling cars was NOT his job, and he then fully took over the car-selling while the actual salesman answered his phone or some such?

No, I think that was Martyn Gibson. Does he have a "Y"?

Madcats · 21/10/2026 12:29

Martin Gibson shopped at the showroom.

Vince probably drives some sort of Chelsea Tractor. Probably a Porsche Cayenne or Range Rover.

The SWs seem to have a bit of a thing for relationships with big age gaps. I seem to remember that there was a big age gap between Pip and Jude…now Pip and Stella as well as Lily and Ross…now Lily and Harrison.

Hoping for more Josh and Chelsea tonight.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 21/10/2026 12:48

@Trivium4all ,he is Martyn.

Ryan Kelly is Scottish by birth.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 21/10/2026 13:06

I think Mince would drive a Bentley. Registration V1NCE or C4SEY.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 21/10/2026 13:06

According to the DVLA, V1nce is a yellow Lamborghini which I think is unlikely but C4SEY is a black Land Rover which could fit.

Or maybe he owns both?

TottersBlankly · 21/10/2026 13:27

Didn’t Beth have a personal number plate courtesy of Dad? (I may be confusing her with a former boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend from about forty years ago … 🤨)

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 21/10/2026 13:28

Yellow car!

Nah. Not Land Rover, Range Rover.

BeatriceBatchelor · 21/10/2026 13:30

Harrison and Lily, am I one of the few enjoying this?

I am. I'm hoping for a happy LTR for them ... and babies.

And I've listened again (this is becoming a habit!) and I think Harrison just sounds gentle and caring with Zainab. Nothing sleazy.

Pip and Stella sound worse on second hearing.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 21/10/2026 13:59

Why was Harrison faffing about lighting candle lanterns?

Surely a place like LL would definitely have mandatory emergency lighting.

Self-contained battery powered lights that would immediately power-up as soon as the mains electricity supply failed.

They're there to highlight all the exits.

And why was Elizabeth going on as though it was just the LL electrics to blame?

I'm sure it was a whole area power cut, caused by the storm.

Wow, that self-congratulatory speech between the the two heroic brides on the tractor made me cringe. You can just imagine them doing a high-five! 😬

I know!! (best Jan Ravens' Liz Truss voice.
'We saved the day!'

Hope D&R re-think the inheritance pronto.

Nopasswordresetemailsent · 21/10/2026 15:53

I assume the road to the tree from lower loxley was open but the road from the tree towards civilisation was blocked…. I think Josh would have mentioned it to the emergency services too though. Maybe the unicorn tractor made it to the blocking tree over the fields…

BeaAndBen · 21/10/2026 16:29

Pip's gleeful self-congratulations about her and Stella when they have Vince in life-or-death situation and poor Chelsea in shock and freezing cold were so tone deaf. Yes, it's your wedding day, Pip, but there's a bit of a crisis here!

And David's patronising talk to Elizabeth was just awful. If I were Lizzie I'd have slapped him.

TherapistInATabard · 21/10/2026 17:28

I would expect nothing less (more?) from Pip, but Stella isn’t always so smug and self centred is she?

Prideofpoona · 21/10/2026 19:25

I have clearly aged out of The Archers. Tonight's episode was dire, full of young things all sounding the same except for Chelsea wringing her hands about being to blame for ....... everything, probably. If I want to hear juvenile sibling squabbles and overly dramatic girls, I have more than enough in my own family, thanks.Thirteen minutes of fluffy filling, nothing substantial.

Babayagahaha · 21/10/2026 19:26

Oh I enjoyed this evening. The mocking of Tom was genuinely funny.

Villagetoraiseachild · 21/10/2026 19:29

Well, looks like we're going to be on tenterhooks for a while about Vince, but Chelsea the heroine has got some haircuts lined up with Josh and Ben. And Keira has another day off. And the community orchard has suffered. Expect we'll be getting various characters viewpoints over the next few days/ weeks.
Joy's pussy has gone astray.....

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 21/10/2026 19:34

I don't like how newJosh sounds.

Too posh!
