Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd have liked to hear more of Pip's and Stella's wedding vows, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Several people on the previous thread, and probably the spoilers thread, have rhymed Vince with mince, so credit to all of you! As I start this thread, we don't know what's going to happen to Vince, and it's looking as if Sunday night is going to last all week, or a good chunk of it. Ah well. We have to put up with this kind of thing every few years. I cling to my belief that the SWs aren't going to kill off another of Elizabeth's partners in a horrific accident - but of course they could be toying with us!

Josh has returned from Patagonia sounding strangely changed by his time abroad. Hmm (Angus Imrie is presumably too busy, or perhaps fed up with the limited storylines given to Josh up to now, so the part has been re-cast.)

Will the Brookfield inheritance row start up again now? I do hope so. Josh has been very badly short-changed by his parents' decision to leave the farm to Pip (and Stella). Surely they could have taken the same approach as Pat and Tony and involved both children (with separate provision for Ben, who's not interested in a farming career)?

Over to you!

@Madcats yes at most an Orangery roof is only partially glazed but usually it’s solid.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 20/10/2026 22:28

An orangery usually has a roof, often with a glass part. I've only seen ones that are extensions of the house.
The glass shattering was caused by the young Archers throwing uneaten flapjacks.
OMG PIP IS LIZ TRUSS! "I KNOOOOWWW!"
At least we got rid of Liz Truss.

TherapistInATabard · 20/10/2026 22:43

David being all ‘explain yourself young man’ to Josh pissed me off. Very strange episode. I wonder if it will be Wednesday tomorrow. I was kind of hoping Josh would take Chelsea home and look after her. Agree that Harrison sees police potential in Zainab, based on….worrying about her brother? 🥴

If it turns out beavers caused the tree to fall over I’ll be annoyed. I very much doubt beaver enclosures are anywhere near roads in reality.

BeatriceBatchelor · 20/10/2026 22:46

Pip and Stella are insufferable. Acting like it was a jolly wheeze.

somekindof · 20/10/2026 23:38

Chelsea beating herself up over not having her kit with her, all my fault- natural reaction and feel sorry for her. Not a moment of ‘oh dear, if only I hadn’t wanted my hair fixed for the photos this awful thing wouldn’t have happened’ from Pip. Just giggling lovey dovey ness urgh

macaroon8 · 21/10/2026 00:15

Where were Lizzie's offspring? Surely it would have been an ideal opportunity to show off their teamwork and management skills?

Am I getting them mixed up but didn't Josh ditch Lizzie's boyfriends daughter and subsequently get Chelsea pregnant . Just seemed like an odd pairing/tripling of characters with a past.

FullOfLemons · 21/10/2026 00:25

It must be nice for Vince knowing Liz loves him …. but surely he would have welcomed a doctor at that point ! Maybe Azra wanted to stay for extra pudding.

No that was Ben

It was a damp squib, as disappointing and pointless as the Ruari glassing George incident and its underwhelming plot outcomes. I have no idea who writes these storylines but The Archers plots have been diabolical for a good year or so now.

Mulledjuice · 21/10/2026 03:39

Chelsea actress was so good I have accidentally traumatised my toddler by having TA on in the kitchen "mummy why that lady is crying?"

Agree that incapacitating Vince (and possibly Lizzy, emotionally) allows Freddie to step up but also Lily (+ Harrison??) at Lower Loxley thereby reigniting the sibling rivalry and accelerating the awkwardness at work for Fallon.

Bizarre pacing at the Orangery (also thought H was going to kiss Zainab 😖) so supect we'll hear more on that tomorrow - shards of glass in the creme bruléeeeeeee.

We haven't heard how Seren and Nova have enjoyed the do in their outfits...

BeardieWeirdie · 20/10/2026 19:41

Oh god, yes, Zainab and Harrison was creepy - I had to mentally check was he talking to Lily because it sounded like he was going to kiss her. I can cope with an age gap relationship between adults but am not prepared for grooming while I make dinner.

I thought look out Zainab Harrisons about.
Im gutted about the buffet, I love creme bullet.🤪

Prideofpoona · 21/10/2026 05:55

I never used to mind 'Arrison and actually tuned into Coronation Street to see him in action, so to speak. Can't bear to listen to him now

AgentKim · 21/10/2026 05:57

David always sounds as though he just woke up.

I think David goes around in a semi-comatose state. It's his best defence for coping with his deeply annoying wife

You can find who’s responsible for each week either on the BBC Archers site (though they don’t list the writer and cast every day, it seems to be just once a week now):

JoelenesParrot · 21/10/2026 06:36

Harrison sounded really sleazy with Zainab. Hopefully the actor just got his intonation a bit wrong. May be he has a fairly limited range and so being romantic comes out with exactly the same emphasis as being sensitive and curring…It was really odd though- I thought we suddenly had a new Lily as well as a new Josh.

David was very off-hand with Josh considering he had just got off a plane from Patagonia and had made the effort to fight through a hurricane to get to the wedding!

And yes, Pip and Stella were unbelievably smug! Could they really be that lacking in self-awareness? Er…clearly yes…

muddyford · 21/10/2026 06:37

I have a friend whose family home is an exquisite Georgian country house. Her orangery, so to speak, is a fully glazed, one storey extension of the main house, though contemporaneous with it, not a later addition. The Georgian country house I was fortunate to live in lacked an orangery but we had a gun room, which is more use!

Brefugee · 21/10/2026 06:57

Carried over from the other thread

I’m not sure I’d be impressed if my family were checking their phones every five minutes to see if the person who had decided not to bother had graced them with a text message

They weren't constantly checking their phones

Madcats · 21/10/2026 07:55

Having had my obligatory morning cuppa and browsed through my socials it appears that rather a lot of listeners thought Harrison’s “chat up” mode is indistinguishable from his “calmly sympathetic” mode. We have to hope that Zainab does have any further solo scenes with him.

Why were the junior Maliks there, anyway? Until a week before, Azzra was studiously blanking Ruth; within the week they were besties and they were (presumably) all going to the wedding.

As for David…..Well I guess Chelsea was pleased to see Josh. He (and the rest of the family) don’t seem overly bothered. Poor Josh.

Darker · 21/10/2026 07:59

Maybe we’ll get more of Josh tonight.

I don’t really understand how he apparated from nowhere into the crash scene. He was apparently on foot as the cars couldn’t get through and David was driving.

Darker · 21/10/2026 08:08

I meant to say that David offered to drive him. Which road was it? Must have been close to LL.

The road next to the rewilding wherever that is.

I thought his taxi had dropped him there as it couldn’t get any nearer to LL?

Darker · 21/10/2026 08:38

Ah that makes sense.

JanFebAndOnwards · 21/10/2026 08:38

I presumed the happy couple still had no idea why half the wedding party had rushed off? 🤷🏻‍♀️
