Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd have liked to hear more of Pip's and Stella's wedding vows, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Several people on the previous thread, and probably the spoilers thread, have rhymed Vince with mince, so credit to all of you! As I start this thread, we don't know what's going to happen to Vince, and it's looking as if Sunday night is going to last all week, or a good chunk of it. Ah well. We have to put up with this kind of thing every few years. I cling to my belief that the SWs aren't going to kill off another of Elizabeth's partners in a horrific accident - but of course they could be toying with us!

Josh has returned from Patagonia sounding strangely changed by his time abroad. Hmm (Angus Imrie is presumably too busy, or perhaps fed up with the limited storylines given to Josh up to now, so the part has been re-cast.)

Will the Brookfield inheritance row start up again now? I do hope so. Josh has been very badly short-changed by his parents' decision to leave the farm to Pip (and Stella). Surely they could have taken the same approach as Pat and Tony and involved both children (with separate provision for Ben, who's not interested in a farming career)?

Over to you!

So true @BeardieWeirdie , great alt plot.

i loved <<crashing sounds>> “The Orangery!!”

WitcheryDivine · 20/10/2026 19:23

Not heard tonight but thanks for explaining there’s a new Josh!

MeadowPumpkin · 20/10/2026 19:27

Ugh that was such a weird episode. Pip and Stella chuckling and congratulating themselves while a man is gravely ill and presumably all their wedding guests are stuck unable to safely leave the venue; Brad and David being really tetchy instead of calmly supportive with Chelsea and Elizabeth respectively; that really strange moment with Harrison and Zainab where apparently the orangery has been collapsed upon by a chimney but it was all resolved with 30 seconds (plus sound effects of glass breaking from a 1960 episode Paul Temple episode)? Really strange writing

Choccyp1g · 20/10/2026 19:30

Zainab is going to find her vocation in the police or other emergency services.

BeardieWeirdie · 20/10/2026 19:37

I’m a bit concerned that listening to TA is turning me into a bad person.

BeardieWeirdie · 20/10/2026 19:41

Oh god, yes, Zainab and Harrison was creepy - I had to mentally check was he talking to Lily because it sounded like he was going to kiss her. I can cope with an age gap relationship between adults but am not prepared for grooming while I make dinner.

I thought that.

TottersBlankly · 20/10/2026 19:56

We didn’t hear Brad. Did you mean Josh, @MeadowPumpkin?

Raera · 20/10/2026 19:58

Why the weird addition of the orangery roof?
It was so fast and badly explained.
Was someone else in there who has not yet been found?
Jill?

I’m a bit concerned that listening to TA is turning me into a bad person.

It's turned me into a judgemental monster! I have been listening for more years than I care to remember and I hardly recall the sweet-natured young thing I used to be 😁Nowadays I seem to dislike heartily at least three quarters of the cast and my main feeling about Vince the mince who makes me wince is that Elizabeth is so horrible she deserves a bit of karma smashing through her orangery. The wedding nonsense has shoved me out of the shadows where I have hitherto lurked, enjoying all the comments on here.

plumstoprunes · 20/10/2026 20:10

Oooh yes, maybe Jill was in the Orangery .........unnoticed because under the creme brulee table

agree a v creepy interchange between Zainab and Harrison, thought I was listening to Eastenders

Raera · 20/10/2026 20:15

Jill found under a pudding would be a very fitting outcome

MeadowPumpkin · 20/10/2026 20:17

Oh sorry, yes, Josh sounds like a tetchy Brad to me. Praps that's why he wasn't as soothing as I would expect a real life brother to be!

Madcats · 20/10/2026 20:19

BeardieWeirdie · 20/10/2026 19:19

SUCH a wasted opportunity there - a tree should have taken Pip out, paving the way for Josh to take over and leaving Stella’s nose out of joint.

There’s still plenty of time for a spell of heavy rain (it has been horrid down in SW), plus gusty wind to bring down a few more trees. Storm Austen is heading our way.

I thought somebody mentioned the trees down were near re-wilding. What’s the betting that Ed/Emma had warned them about a few of the ones that fell?

Gladtimeslady · 20/10/2026 20:24

The collapse of the orangery was very odd. It sounded so huge that I thought that most of the wedding guests must have been killed or at least seriously hurt, and then it turned out to be little more than a minor inconvenience.

Harrison's taste in women seems to be getting younger by the week. What was that all about?

And although the buffet has been lovely - thanks to Lizzie personally slaving over a hot stove all week - they have clearly been very tight-fisted with the alcohol. No one appears to have had more than one glass.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/10/2026 20:28

I was a bit concerned about the two potentially tipsy brides handling heavy machinery and moving fallen trees.

I believe there are fears that the summer drought has made many trees vulnerable and more likely to be blown over during storms this winter.

JustAMiddleAgedDirtBagBaby · 20/10/2026 20:55

Why is it still Sunday?!?

WobblyLondoner · 20/10/2026 21:02

The pacing was a bit off I thought. After all the Vince, Josh & Chelsea drama it was very odd not to hear anything from them until the accident had been dealt with and Vince was on his way to hospital.

Like others was very concerned about two pissed brides driving a tractor in the pouring rain!

And oh my goodness, David was so annoying in how he dealt with Elizabeth on the way. I was surprised she didn’t howl at him!

I think that's his 'caring' voice and it makes my skin crawl.

Mumblechum0 · 20/10/2026 21:11

Curring voice. I can’t bear it

Clearingthedecks · 20/10/2026 21:39

That three women needed support from three men annoyed me a lot!

Jill passing away by pudding would be perfect.

What with being a long-standing member of the National Trust and English Heritage, I am not sure I have encountered an orangery built close to the main dwelling. They tend to be in the gardens? Also they don’t usually have glass roofs, either (just big tall south-facing windows).

Harrison sounded downright creepy. If Zainab is going to become a police trainee, let’s hope she models herself on Sergeant Nicholas Angel (Hot Fuzz), not Harrison!

Presumably we won’t get to hear the conversation between David and Josh in our “Always Sunday” week in Ambridge. Shame.

FizzingAda · 20/10/2026 21:51

Surely amongst 200 wedding guests there would have been a few hunky farmers who could drive the tractor and shift the tree, not the two brides!

Trivium4all · 20/10/2026 22:03

OMG PIP IS LIZ TRUSS! "I KNOOOOWWW!" just like on Dead Ringers...
