Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd have liked to hear more of Pip's and Stella's wedding vows, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Several people on the previous thread, and probably the spoilers thread, have rhymed Vince with mince, so credit to all of you! As I start this thread, we don't know what's going to happen to Vince, and it's looking as if Sunday night is going to last all week, or a good chunk of it. Ah well. We have to put up with this kind of thing every few years. I cling to my belief that the SWs aren't going to kill off another of Elizabeth's partners in a horrific accident - but of course they could be toying with us!

Josh has returned from Patagonia sounding strangely changed by his time abroad. Hmm (Angus Imrie is presumably too busy, or perhaps fed up with the limited storylines given to Josh up to now, so the part has been re-cast.)

Will the Brookfield inheritance row start up again now? I do hope so. Josh has been very badly short-changed by his parents' decision to leave the farm to Pip (and Stella). Surely they could have taken the same approach as Pat and Tony and involved both children (with separate provision for Ben, who's not interested in a farming career)?

Over to you!

My theory is that Josh's new-found interest in AI in farming means he will get together with Esme, and together they will become gurus of modern farming methods and massively successful.. With any luck Pip will be so furious that she'll have apoplexy and keel over and die.

One can only hope. Anything to squash Poop underfoot

I was in London the other day and they were handing out free Tim Tams at Oxford Circus. They gave me 4 packets (2 biscuits in each). Tried some later and am I allowed to say that I still prefer Penguins?

Just had this discussion with my sister. No, Tim Tams are not as good as Penguins, at least as Penguins used to be.

At least you know immediately which female is speaking. Half the time I have no idea which of the younger males is speaking, they all sound the same.

I find the subject of recognising voices quite intriguing. I never have a problem and always know exactly who's speaking (even when I've only heard a voice just once before, for example new Josh). My facial recognition skills, on the other hand, are pretty rubbish until I've seen someone a few times. The brain is a funny thing...

JanFebAndOnwards · Yesterday 16:24

Maybe I am aurally shallow - I wouldn’t have known that there was a new Josh!

DrBlackbird · Yesterday 18:20

It will be annoying if the SWs have Harrison riding to the support rescue of Lily on his pure white steed in her hour of need.

I saw Kylie do that in an interview with ? Parkinson (Googling also shows Natalie Imbruglia doing it with Graham Norton) but with Tim Tams which seem to be an Australian cousin of Penguins (our Oz family says they're much better).
It's called the Tim Tam slam (or Tim Tam explosion as mentioned in the GN & NI clip).

This can also be done with chocolate fingers and to some extent, kitkats. Probably works with a twix, too.

Some of the females are women, some of them are girls. Females = collective noun.

Isn’t it female something eg female character, female Archer, female voice?

Just ‘female’ makes me think of Andrew Tate and his lovely blouse.

FullOfLemons · Yesterday 19:48

Wow. Just wow. Now that is a stupid name.

Sounds like character from a Marvel film or suchlike. Henry probably has the toy.

Choccyp1g · Yesterday 20:02

Could be better: Austen
Could be worse: Boelo

Gooseinthewood · Yesterday 20:44

Storm is probably a likely name for a teenage influencer to go with.

Storm Grundy

Babayagahaha · Yesterday 21:10

Did they call the baby storm?

Taught one once, absolute storm. Sister River and brother Rain. Interesting choices.

Gonners · Yesterday 21:36

I'd quite like Harrison to "rescue" Lily from all the current ghastliness and for them to marry. It would serve both of them right!

BeatriceBatchelor · Yesterday 23:06

Poor baby. Named after a turkey poult. He'll have a lot to live up to.

TottersBlankly · Yesterday 23:38

What might the diminutive be - ‘Light Breeze’, ‘Fluffy Cloud’?

Although neither George nor Amber appear to have been graced with one, so maybe he’ll just be Stormy until he’s taller than all his relatives.

EBearhug · Today 01:22

How long do you have to register a baby? Surely before he starts walking and talking?

I know I could Google. It just this does seem an awfully long time. (28 days was in my head.)

EBearhug · Today 01:24

I googked - 42 days / 6 weeks. Can't remember when Storm was born, though.

AlonsoMosley · Today 03:51

is that not a kardashian name...

TeenToTwenties · Today 06:44

There was a (male) Storm in my elder DD's class at Secondary, DD's in her twenties now.

muddyford · Today 06:54

There's an author, Storm Jameson. She was popular when I was growing up, but I've never read any of her novels.

Darker · Today 07:17

‘Storm’ feels a bit tactless. The baby was presumably safe at home with Amber and George while traumatic and damaging things happened to others, including their close Grundy relatives. The name will be a reminder to many of a day when a lot went wrong.

TottersBlankly · Today 07:21

It’s true it may not be terribly welcome to Vince, Elizabeth, etc - but I think Storm Grundy is quite a cute name, and could be cool, depending on how he turns out.

Given the rather deliberate and heavy handed ‘gender neutral’ stipulations the script put into Amber’s mouth, Storm may not always be ‘he’.

And they might entirely reject Gen Whatever’s culture and change their name to Neil / Christine/ Robert as soon as they’re able!

Couldn't we leave that kind of pointless speculation out of this thread please?

TottersBlankly · Today 08:13

?

🤔

No.

Darker · Today 08:16

Personally I’d welcome a well-written, well researched, trans storyline.
