Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd have liked to hear more of Pip's and Stella's wedding vows, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Several people on the previous thread, and probably the spoilers thread, have rhymed Vince with mince, so credit to all of you! As I start this thread, we don't know what's going to happen to Vince, and it's looking as if Sunday night is going to last all week, or a good chunk of it. Ah well. We have to put up with this kind of thing every few years. I cling to my belief that the SWs aren't going to kill off another of Elizabeth's partners in a horrific accident - but of course they could be toying with us!

Josh has returned from Patagonia sounding strangely changed by his time abroad. Hmm (Angus Imrie is presumably too busy, or perhaps fed up with the limited storylines given to Josh up to now, so the part has been re-cast.)

Will the Brookfield inheritance row start up again now? I do hope so. Josh has been very badly short-changed by his parents' decision to leave the farm to Pip (and Stella). Surely they could have taken the same approach as Pat and Tony and involved both children (with separate provision for Ben, who's not interested in a farming career)?

Over to you!

I dont get the love for Chelsea. She’s a bit “meh” as a character for me.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 24/10/2026 19:59

Chelsea is great. She's the only non-annoying female under 35.

Hendiadys · 24/10/2026 19:59

Wasn’t Jazzer supposedly addicted to ketamine at one point? His miraculous recovery seems remarkable, especially since (according to the documentary I saw a very small amount of the other night) the lasting effects can be life-changing and really horrific.

I love Chelsea. She’s another favourite of mine.

I’m trying to think of another female under 35 who isn’t annoying but I can’t.

I can't stand Chelsea, her adenoidal whining voice drives me mad, as well as her irritating personality. She's a mobile hairdresser, big deal.
Far more praise should go to her brother who has managed to get into higher education from the type of family he comes from. But unfortunately I see him doomed after graduation to have to remain in Ambridge doing some mental job, instead of moving away as he should.

JudyCoolibar · 24/10/2026 23:49

Shame for the SWs that they didn't make the wedding this weekend - the storm would have fitted in nicely with actual weather conditions.

TottersBlankly · Yesterday 00:41

Maybe they looked at long term weather forecasts but got the dates wrong?

It would have been so impressive if the wedding had been this weekend!

Chelsea's voice drives me up the wall.

I like how hard Chelsea tries though. She's hard working and wants to achieve. It would be nice if she became a success.

Penguin is, and has always been, a biscuit. Whether it contains any chocolate is debatable

A builder working at our house introduced me to biting a tiny bit off each end of a penguin and using it like a straw in tea! Sounds revolting but is delicious!

Me too. And the voices of Pip, Ruth and Jolene.

I don't know if I have a voice problem or a woman problem.

Sympathies to those in the path of Storm Boelo. We’ve a decent sunny morning down here after Austen (a sheets out and finally mow the lawn sort of day).

We often seem to get storms in late October/early November (there are a couple of places near us known for their spectacular Autumn colours if the wind doesn’t blow all their leaves off first).

I’m reliably informed that any time a woman under 35 utters a word on Radio 4 someone writes in to complain about her pronunciation, enunciation, word choice or grammar. But that only accounts for one of those three characters!

FizzingAda · Yesterday 09:53

At least you know immediately which female is speaking. Half the time I have no idea which of the younger males is speaking, they all sound the same.

Brefugee · Yesterday 09:57

WOMAN, not "female"

Tks

Oh my god, Elizabeth can't have TWO partners killed because the Brookfield Archers want something for their convenience!

First David insisting Nigel go on the roof in bad weather.
Now Pip wanting her hair done again, so Vince heads out in the storm with Chelsea for the hairdressing stuff.

My recollection is hazy, but I thought it was Nigel who insisted on going out on the roof?

JudyCoolibar · Yesterday 10:25

My theory is that Josh's new-found interest in AI in farming means he will get together with Esme, and together they will become gurus of modern farming methods and massively successful.. With any luck Pip will be so furious that she'll have apoplexy and keel over and die.

I saw Kylie do that in an interview with ? Parkinson (Googling also shows Natalie Imbruglia doing it with Graham Norton) but with Tim Tams which seem to be an Australian cousin of Penguins (our Oz family says they're much better).
It's called the Tim Tam slam (or Tim Tam explosion as mentioned in the GN & NI clip).

Prideofpoona · Yesterday 11:42

I'm not a huge fan of Chelsea but she's a grafter, like her mother and brother. I do have time for Brad, even if his delivery makes him sound a bit gormless. Most of my ire is reserved for the vacuous, entitled spoilt brat Poop and her doting mother. I felt like whacking tke radio when Ruth screeched ( about Josh's apparent absence) "But it's his sister's weddin!" One of my brothers didn't come to mine - and he was only in Aylesbury, not Patagonia. Nobody had the vapours or kept traducing him in his absence.

I was in London the other day and they were handing out free Tim Tams at Oxford Circus. They gave me 4 packets (2 biscuits in each). Tried some later and am I allowed to say that I still prefer Penguins?

Certainly afaic 😊
I'm not a huge fan of either but I do like the Australian Cherry Ripe bars.

WOMAN, not "female"

Tks

Some of the females are women, some of them are girls. Females = collective noun.

CaptainMyCaptain · Yesterday 12:33

There's nothing wrong with the word female.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · Yesterday 12:51

@piscofrisco , If I were near enough you would be kicked all the way to Birmingham via Coventry. How dare you be mean about my darling Freddie.Smile

@Brefugee ,Keira is not a WOMAN, neither are Fat Rosie, the Novichoks or Ena Sharples. Tks.

@ExOptimist , Chelsea is determined and sassy. A good hairdresser is not easy to find.

Far more praise should go to her brother who has managed to get into higher education from the type of family he comes from. Why? He's academically inclined, Chelsea's skills aren't academic.

@BeatriceBatchelor Half the time I have no idea which of the younger males is speaking, they all sound the same., they don't to me.
I don't know if I have a voice problem or a woman problem. Many women have higher pitched voices that seem to not be easy to listen to on the radio.
I find the younger ones tend to be irritating and it's due to pitch, intonation and phonation.
Some male broadcasters have annoying voices too.

@JudyCoolibar , it was Nigel who insisted on going out on the roof It was.

I don't like Penguins but Chocolate Oreos are horrible.

The scoffing from David, Ruth and Pip before they have to eat their words would be incredible. A1.
