Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to be Brian's child or stepchild, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

Adam sounded pathetically grateful to receive £7k.

Daft of him to suggest a holiday when he's jobless at 60.

Nos4r2 · 13/07/2026 05:21

Why should Kirsty have told Tom she was pregnant? If she lived in another town and was married Im sure she wouldn't have told him.. kirsty you must know if you want to keep a secret dont tell a soul especially to some people (Helen) who is a useless fibber.
Would be annoyed if I just got 7 grand from my inheritance from an old skin flint who had to be black mailed to cough it up. Brian is an awful man and I dont understand how a lot of you think so highly of him. Saying that Ive only been a TA listener for about 7 or 8 years, so have only seen Brian now rather than before.
Have the writers changed him much?.

Brefugee · 13/07/2026 05:33

Brian was always like this. But while J was alive the worst of him was hidden.

If the 7k is going to mostly go on lawyers fees I'd maybe think about a holiday too.

TherapistInATabard · 13/07/2026 07:21

I’ve always found it unfathomable that Brian hasn’t had at least one Labrador at all times. He shoots, and they are the epitome of man’s best friend for a man like that. Easy to train and keep in line, unquestionable adoration and obedience (unlike those ungrateful children). This has always seemed like a misstep.

Think they arrested one of Markie's men.

Didn't they let him go for lack of evidence?

Hard agree.

I picture ruby as a copper coloured cockerpoo.

Wasnt the dog still chasing the sheep when david and pip turned up? They would have recognised an ambridge dog. I might have dreamt that bit.

I need to address the comments about loving brian - i dont think we love him or what he does, it's the entertainment value. If he was nice and behaved himself we'd have nothing to listen to, and charles' delivery is, imo, very good indeed.

Yes definitely. The dogs names always seem typical for their breed. Ruby = spaniel, Bess = collie, Monty = Doberman (possibly black lab)…. In my head anyway….! Stella’s are less typically named but also I think cross breed/mongrels. I can’t even remember what they are called but the last one made me think whippet like and the current one possibly more terrier.

Edited

Stella's dog was Weaver and the current one is Cleo.

Monty is definitely not a black Labrador. I think he's a Dobermann.

Has The Archers had a Data Centres storyline yet. It's just a small enough amount as he might put it into Crypto and then get sucked into all that woo

muddyford · 13/07/2026 16:22

I see Ruby as a red cockerpoo and Cleo as some Heinz 57, aka mutt. They are rare these days.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 13/07/2026 16:25

Lilian is not the sort of person to have a cockerpoo.

Nopasswordresetemailsent · 13/07/2026 16:42

absolutely.. I always thought field spaniel but I’m now thinking King Charles. I think it’s fat, whatever it is 🙊

Lalgarh · 13/07/2026 17:06

Labrador surely

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 13/07/2026 17:14

Not a Labrador, Golden Retriever or a KC.
Not fat either.
I posted 'my' Ruby upthread.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 13/07/2026 18:01

I've never thought of Ian as being particularly avaricious.

I like to think that he's just got the best interests of his husband in mind.

But, does anyone else think that he was absolutely dying to reveal that his actions were the reason for Brian's largesse?

It will all come out eventually, I'm sure!

ExitPursuedByABare · 13/07/2026 18:02

I too thought Ruby was a spanner.

thank you! amazing....did you already know about that or did you research it? if so, double thank you!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/07/2026 19:38

Trouble in Paradise, I would say. That broken bottle was a metaphor. A reminder, perhaps, of the broken bottle that caused all the trouble at New Year, to go with Harrison's horror at discovering that George Bloody Grundy is going to have what he will never have (unless he leaves Fallon) - a behbeh of his own.

How could it slip his mind to tell Fallon that instead of starting his new job a week today he actually starts on Wednesday? Pretty big thing to forget.

And then his mocking remarks about the rubbish littering the garden. Oh dear.

yes
this relationship is DOOMED
unless, unbeknown to us, they have amazing sex

EBearhug · 11/07/2026 16:51

it's good to have the Borchester Show - on a Thursday though?! I've not been to many, but they've all been on the weekend?

Melplash (by Bridport) is always the last Thursday in August. But August, so school hols.

Great Yorkshire Show is on Tuesday to Friday this week

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 13/07/2026 20:09

@slughater, thanks. Did a search on 'forensic canine DNA testing'.

DeanElderberry · 13/07/2026 20:39

I thought Harrison was sounding distinctly shifty.

BeardieWeirdie · 13/07/2026 21:52

I really don’t want to hear that Amber’s been mown down on a dark country road by a mystery hit-and-run driver.

Gonners · 13/07/2026 22:00

Harrison is a nasty, selfish piece of work and I look forward to him (1) having to admit that he has spawned a Burnsling oop North, (2) being subjected to a corruption investigation and (3) never being heard of again.

JoelenesParrot · 13/07/2026 22:28

I’m surprised Harrison has returned- I was utterly convinced he would be killed on the road driving down to Ambridge.

Reunions rarely live up to expectations so I thought Fallon’s undisguised irritation/disappointment with H later in the day was very perceptive. She’ll be wishing the relationship was still long-distance by the weekend.

I thought the actor seemed a bit out of practice btw. He was hamming up his broad country bumpkin accent even more than usual.

BeatriceBatchelor · 13/07/2026 22:32

unless, unbeknown to us, they have amazing sex

I think that's what we're meant to deduce. Much as I squirm at the thought of Harrison crying "oh Fallon! Luv! LUV!" in ecstasy, I think it's that which keeps them together.

Jolene was sounding particularly piratey tonight. The potential camaraderie between Amber and Kirsty was nice. Though I felt sorry for Rex - men must think they can't win sometimes.
