Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to be Brian's child or stepchild, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

Does anyone know the timeline of Adam’s employment on the farm? The latest stint wasn’t that long, was it? He and Ian keep saying no one’s given more to Home Farm, but how long has he worked there over the years? He flounced off some years ago after the money ‘borrowing’, tried working somewhere a few miles away then (improbably) faffed around at Bridge Farm for a bit. Lol at him and Ian being pissed off at the BF lot not including him in their celebrations after the show.

TherapistInATabard · 11/07/2026 18:12

Oh, and did I miss someone mentioning how Keira got on? Did she win anything?

TottersBlankly · 11/07/2026 18:26

Did she win second place with a Texel?

BeatriceBatchelor · 11/07/2026 18:38

Wasn't Adam in line for a Big Farm Manager's job but Ian put an end to that by turning up at the interview and accusing Adam of ... erm having a fling with his prospective boss.

Or something.

slughater · 11/07/2026 19:13

I've forgotten now, didn't the police arrest someone fot the attack on George? have they been tried?
and on another policing matter, how is the DNA sampling going to help find the sheep-attacker? will it tell them the breed, sex etc??

BeatriceBatchelor · 11/07/2026 19:29

Think they arrested one of Markie's men.

Yes! That was one of the more enjoyable episodes featuring the ghastly pair.

Agree @EBearhugall the agricultural shows I’ve been to / heard of are in the week. Ours is always last Wednesday in July. Just shows how everywhere is different.

I’m annoying myself trying to remember what sort of dog Ruby is. I remember Matt buying her for Lillian’s 70th.

Gonners · 11/07/2026 16:57

I've no idea what sort of dog Ruby is, but I've always imagined her smallish and yappy (like her owner).

I have it in my mind (no idea where from) that Ruby is a Patterdale terrier - murderous little beasts designed for killing badgers and foxes in their sets/earths when lesser terriers can’t bolt them. So basically a concentrated terrier on steroids. If anything like mine Ruby would be utterly delighted to chase and attack sheep - my thug can never be let off his leash. But they are lovely with people and a great size.

Gonners · 11/07/2026 21:06

Oooh! I don't think I've ever met a Patterdale, but a Google image search suggests a dog who is utterly charming until something pisses him off! The perfect dog to deal with an unwanted toddler.

TottersBlankly · 12/07/2026 11:33

I do have to protest at Tracy’s I’ve been looking after him for fourteen years! given that she was the one who moved herself and two children into Bert’s house. She benefitted hugely - and got herself put on the tenancy.

I’ve seen similar situations play out in real life (maybe the initial creators of the story had too). It would be good if someone pointed out to Tracy that the current burden of care for Bert has not actually pertained for the entire fourteen years she’s been there.

(I do love her generally.)

EBearhug · 12/07/2026 11:35

She might have benefitted, but it's been a hard slog at times, and I don't get the impression Bert is terribly grateful at all.

TottersBlankly · 12/07/2026 12:04

Oh, I mixed things up. Keira came first with the Texel. It was Chris and the unknown Emily who came second in their competition.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 12/07/2026 12:25

I'm so looking forward to hearing Bert serving behind the counter in the shop.

It's obviously going to happen!

I am so not. I groaned when they set it up.

I pictured Ruby as a spaniel. Definitely not a terrier or a -doodle.

Patterdales don't make the best pets.

No nobody but George and Ruairi know about that revelatory conversation. This will become relevant.

The New Forest Show is Tue-Thur end of July.

The Romsey Show is a Saturday mid Sept.

I don't even remember it ... but these days TA goes in one ear and out of the other, much of it bypassing the brain. I find that works well for me!

muddyford · 12/07/2026 19:15

Somewhere hot? Like Warwick?

DeanElderberry · 12/07/2026 19:17

cava with roast beef?

Darker · 12/07/2026 19:40

£7k is a miserly amount.

No wonder Ian is pissed off.

A beautiful Welsh Springer. I’m happy with that.

Yes definitely. The dogs names always seem typical for their breed. Ruby = spaniel, Bess = collie, Monty = Doberman (possibly black lab)…. In my head anyway….! Stella’s are less typically named but also I think cross breed/mongrels. I can’t even remember what they are called but the last one made me think whippet like and the current one possibly more terrier.
